You have to pick a race for each matchup but you can change it between weeks.

My friend was B 7001, do you think he could play just to be fair? We wanted a fair C ranks team league so we allowed B- players in to make it fair, I don't see why we shouldn't make it more fair and allow my friend to play who is B rank 7001. It's only two more points

Sorry no. The line is drawn at B-. Any more and eventually it becomes the C- and up team league.

Where, oh where, did you come up with that? It has nothing to do with fairness whatsoever, and I'm not quite sure how you reached that conclusion.
B- players were allowed because by and large they don't see playtime in events like GC, NW, etc. There are many "fan favorites" as well as B- players in general that people wanted an opportunity to see so the decision was made to allow B- players.

I recently reinstalled BW and have been playing frequently, and I'm interested in possibly joining this season. Upon quitting, I was about B- level (a year before SC2 came out, I think,) but I have no idea how good I am now. I would have to guess C- '-' Though I have a week without class so I will be laddering a lot and could be more specific later. Could I be set as a free agent with a "guessed" rank? If so:
