In the not-too-distant-past, in some day A.D., there was a girl named Nina, not too different from you or me. She worked on this little tournament, and worked with all time she spent, she did a really good job organizing the place, but her bosses didn't like her so they shot into spaaaace.
So, I came up with this neat little idea to have a BroodWar tournament for girls only! NO BOYS IN OUR TREEHOUSE! However, as these things sometimes do, shit got real. I contact literally every known/suspected girl in the StarCraft world that I thought even might be remotely interested. And yes, that includes Megumixbear. Also, Hot_Bid. As you may have suspected, most of the girls were azns, and azn girls can be very difficult to "manage". One does not simply tell an azn girl what to do. Especially if they are Vietnamese. But I digress. Although I can be confident sometimes, I'm actually pretty shy. So, writing a bunch of PMs to girls asking them to fight each other in a 90s video game was scary. I'm glad I did in the end though, because I think I made a friend :p.
My original idea what to have a "mini tour", with 4 competitors, and maybe one exhibition match (which was supposed to be lilsusie vs livinpink, that would've been cool), but suddenly, a bunch of girls came out of the woodwork saying they wanted to play. Some of them I had to zap with a cattle prod to get them to agree to play. Suddenly, there were like 12 girls ready to play and the mini tour wasn't so mini anymore. But then, a funny thing happened: nobody wanted to practice or play each other, except for the four who actually played. Hazely, Munkiee, Zombie, Click were all completely on-board, and put in time practicing to play their matches, and tried to make their dates. Some of the girls were practically impossible to contact, because they didn't check anything, ever. It was quite the opposite of the YSL, where everything worked smoothly.
Time passed, but I remained optimistic and patient. I'm still optimistic and patient, but I had to go through a bit of a learning experience. In the end, I just thought, "Hey, wait a minute, let's just do the mini tour as a.... mini tour." so I changed the line-up for the mini tour, and kindly kept in touch with the active peeps. Hazely, Munkiee, Zombie, Click are all really cool, and I hope they enjoyed playing. I hope the BroodWar fans enjoy watching the tournament, even if it is a novelty tour. Also, I hope more girls (and boys) will pick up BroodWar and fall in love with it, maybe even for a second time.
For everyone who did not play - I really you could have. I know Kade is really talented and motivated, Tesla was a really big name on iCCup in it's heyday, LivinPink is a SC2 celebrity, Siena is from Russia)))), and of course, there was lilsusie. Probably the most legendary female name in StarCraft after Tossgirl. Nymphaceae was really cool and was a fast learner, so I hope she's doing well. Sorry, Quails, I don't know anything about you, jajajajaja xd. I was frustrated with the turn-out for players, but I hope I didn't come off as a bitch at any point. I understand life is filled with sooooo much stuff that it's hard to make time for video games. I think you all are amazing, and I wish you the best!
VOD!
For the mini tour, the players were:
Hazelynut vs Munkeeee
ZombieGrub vs MissClickii
Those who did not play:
Kade Quails-_- Siena Tesla Nymphaceae LivinPink lilsusie
The matches will be BEST OF FIVE, with the loser of each game picking the next map. The starting map will be Fighting Spirit. Players can play the same maps as many times as they want.
- All games should be played on iccup, using the iccup launcher with the Antihack ON. - No one but you can play on your account. Cheating will result in immediate disqualification. - If you need to pause the game, please type "pp" before pausing, and ask if your opponent is ready before you unpause. - There will be no rule concerning manners, but in the off-chance that someone says something that is particularly offensive (such as racial epithets, personal threats, etc) please take a screen capture if it happens in the channel or lobby. - You may not have observers in your games. The game must be only yourself and your opponent. - If there is a problem with lag that makes the game unplayable, contact me immediately, and the issue will be resolved at my discretion. - No SCV stack glitch. - Using third-party programs (hax) besides the iccup launcher that alter gameplay or give an unfair advantage to one player will result in disqualification. - Using a rigged map that alters standard gameplay in any way will result in disqualification. - Don't cheat. -_-

We've had a few BW lans since then and it didn't take me long to see what I had been truly missing more than a decade ago!
Short bio: Hi! I'm munkie... I am 21 years old and I have been playing Starcraft since I was about 10ish. For almost a year now I have been laddering on iCCup, my highest rank is C+. Before iCCup, I was a BGH player on east/west... I like bananas.

I don't know anything about these players, so Tesla gets my vote. As a general rule, the person whose last name happens to be "Slaughter" is favored in war games.
So happy to see this! SBWI is going to have a meeting soon about what to sponsor next and I will be sure to bring girl tours up. Hopefully in the future we can provide some money for girl tournaments. Will watch!
2. I wonder what it would be like to have a Broodwar enthusiastic girlfriend. Watching streams instead of chick flicks, 2v2 skype sessions instead of long phone calls, whispering "you're as sweet as hold lurkers in a ZvT" at romantic moments?

I have nr 2. For real. This is sometimes good (watchin streams together) and sometimes bad (she's a mean cheeser). Also a terran but she doesn't have time for laddering really and just plays casually. I couldn't find anything about signing up in the thread but maybe she's interested.

Yeah, I wasn't sure myself, but even if she was/is, she would be way higher in skill than anyone else in the tour, which would be totally unfair.

What is the average skill level of the participants? I would guess D to C+ or something. Am I right?
Also I only know Tesla and Miss.Clickii, so I want them to be in the finals :D gogogoog^^
@nina: I think you can play in your own tournaments, but just have an additional admin, who is only organizing matches you are involved in. So you do not need to decide about your own games. Easy as can be!

The skill-breakdown is a little bit arbitrary since many of the players have been inactive for awhile. When I originally came up with the tournament concept, Hazelynut and Nymphaceae were playing and active, now they're less active. MissClickii has been quite active lately, so she actually has a very good chance.
Munkiee may be the most statistically skilled in the tour, but isn't unbeatable by any means. It's anyone's game!
Quails will be facing MissClickii in the first round! It's still ZvZ, and Nymphaceae is still in the tour, but I just need to touch base with all the players. I like Nymphy and hope she comes around sometime soon.
"I like bananas" can't help but root for munkie you can throw it, slip and make cartoon 1976. also yellow is color of GOLD, oragne doesnt exist in mineral hwaiting~

Again, I personally don't like the idea of competing in a tournament where I am the referee. I didn't compete in the YSL for the same reason. So, to update you, I'm still not in it. :p

Really interesting question, but since I've only been around since 2009 playing StarCraft, I really don't know. Rangirl was one of the best before 2010, but Reclusive might be the best OF ALL TIME, YO. ToT)Ore( was a 2v2 player, but was only C in 2v2.
Don't worry though, I'm going to be the best ever, period.

Please don't misunderstand me. If any organizer wants to play their own tournament, to each his own. FOR ME personally, I don't believe that the referee for a game should also play in the game, as it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Would I cheat? No. But that doesn't change the way I look at it.

no, i didnt misunderstand you i guess. To me personally it's a obvious thing not to participate in self organized events of any kind. On the other hand i dont want to blame people that do. Its just creates weird scenarios sometimes. Perhaps it just is resembling to me in connection to recent events, in that case i didnt intend to imply you aimed at the very same thing too.
Well right now it is up in the air if I can play in this tournament due to tech issues. If I can get them resolved, then I will be happy to play in the tournament, but if not - well then I'm sorry.

whats the technical issue?
Well like I played a long time ago. I have no problem admitting I am really behind in playing and all. So my bw is all up to date and I had to download the AH. With that being said, I downloaded the newest AH today. Anyhow, so I am using a win7, 64 bit. I've played on SC:BW on this system before - Only thing thats changed over the time is internal hard drives and ram.
So continuing on, its telling me: "Your Internet connection is either very poor or is not processing UDP packets throught port 6112. You will be able to chat but will not be able to play games. Contact your Internet service provider or your system administrator for assistance with opening this port."
Which makes no sense. I've already done a speed test and I have better internet now than I did back then. So the internet speed or connection isn't a problem. Nor did I have ports forwarded/opened back then and was still able to play; Sometimes I could host but that was only if I did the trick for it.
TLDR: I cant join or create games at all. I am starting to think that the router/modem (which is a 2-in-1) is causing some clashes some how, thus not allowing me to play. So ya, idk ~ >.<

Thing is ~ I already restarted it. Resetting it is not an opinion, nor is opening the ports. I use to be able to play without the ports being open. That isn't gonna change at the moment. It is not an opinion available for me...so I guess I cant play.

Can you elaborate on the format, or is it still to be decided based on the number of participants? (16 player single elimination bracket, 3rd place, etc.)

Originally, I had in mind to do very small tour, like only 4 players, with the winners of the first round advancing to the final round. Then it expanded to 8, and then Miss Click wanted in, and then Siena and Susie Kim wanted to join. I've been corresponding quite well with all the players (Except for LivinPink, which may be due to her schedule or travel-related activity) but how well they are corresponding with each other is kind of hard to tell. I think everyone wants an opportunity to practice before playing, and therefore, have held off on immediately contacting their opponents.
Because of my initial idea to have very few players, the first round would be a Best of Five, so that there would still be plenty of games to watch. Now there are potentially 10 players, but I want them to be able to still play a Best of Five. After winning the match, the winner will advance to the next round. There is no losers' bracket, so unfortunately, they will have to bow out after losing. So I guess that's an overly-complicated way of saying it's Single Elimination.
Because everyone is practicing, I don't think any of the matches will be played until the 15th or 16th, except perhaps Tesla vs Kade. Tesla has announced that she will not be practicing for the match will play it whenever her opponent is ready, and Kade is definitely ready. However, due to Tesla's computer having AIDS, we may have to host the match on Hamachi, which is a virtual LAN server which kicks butt. I am hoping with all my heart and soul that this match can get played. The alternative would be to drop Tesla from the tour, which I am reluctant to do (I don't want anyone to drop out, I want the players to stay in an not miss out) and reset someone's match. I could put lilsusie in Tesla's spot, but that doesn't seem 'right'.
lilsusie is still relatively "rusty" and I don't want to throw her into a match with Kade in the first round. I would much rather replace Tesla with MissClickii, and match lilsusie up with -_-Quails.
Yea, thought so. Bo5 is always better than Bo1 or Bo3 in my book. I'd be all for Hamachi if I was playing, the latency is sickkk there; no antihack, but that isn't an issue here anyway.

That might be a bit unfair, as quails has only been practicing the zvz matchup and no zvp at all. and the 16th is approaching rapidly.

Yeah, I don't really want to do that. Someone might have to switch players, or we'll have walk-overs, and I hate walk-overs.
Haha! I remember that. I just wanted to cast more and get better. I shouldn't have acted the way I did. Either way I would like to clarify - Nina and I are two completely different people. She and I worked together at ICCup, among others like (ICCup.nOoNe, ICCup.Sayle, ICCup.Mai-k, ICCup.Cheloman, ICCup.2easy...etc) ~ Then again times have changed for ICCup. Many of those names are no longer there and its hard to believe they are in season 23 now. Either way ~ We are 2 different people.

woah O_O you two were really at each others throats in that lol, also how many of matchs (replays sent to you) do u have so far?

Also, I think it's really shady for people to compete in events that they themselves host.
i nearly spilled my drink here ^^ Is it even shadier than seading friends into ro8 of a tourney oneself hosts? ^^ i guess i know at what your pointing...
Please don't misunderstand me. If any organizer wants to play their own tournament, to each his own. FOR ME personally, I don't believe that the referee for a game should also play in the game, as it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Would I cheat? No. But that doesn't change the way I look at it.

I know it doesn't make sense! I don't know what I was thinking at that time. Lol...However as Nina so elegantly put, we have different personalities; thus its easier for us to clash. However I would rather work with her than ever against her. I am happy that we are on good terms and even happier to see events like this going on. I don't think we'll ever have a full-blown grudge either. ^^ Yes - we were at each others throats. However in both of our defenses, this is a competitive scene. ^_^
If there are timezone issues, I can switch the matches to:
MissClickii vs ZombieGrub
Siena vs -_-Quails
The timezones will be easier to accommodate, no?
In theory, Siena vs ZombieGrub should be the easiest to have happen, seeing as how Russia time is only 8 hours (don't quote me on this) forward, so afternoon to America would be evening in Glorious Motherland.
- or -
TOTALLY CHANGE THE WHOLE FORMAT, ALLLRIIIIIGHT
But I'm not going to make a hasty decision... it's that time of year (isn't it always?) where people are busy (aren't they always?) and stuff (things?).

Tesla has eliminated herself from the tournament. It was quite traumatic to watch, and may require years of therapy to get the image out of my mind.
Hazelynut and Munkee played, but Hazelynut wanted to play more StarCraft (usually a good option), so I'm also letting her play Kade in Tesla's place. ZombieGrub and MissClick are usually on at the same time, so I let them play, and they've turned in yet another set. Congratulations to both of them for uh... playing... a computer game... OKAY SO - I hate when people feel bad, so I don't want anyone to feel bad, unless they are douchenozzles, and none of the ladies in this have been anything other than very enthusiastic and friendly.
Siena bowed out to play that other StarCraft, so the ZombieGrub and MissClick match was a no-brainer. I just hope the notice wasn't too short. Realistically, everyone should be ready to play any opposing match-up, because they'll most likely have to play someone of a completely different race right afterward.

Siena was taken by Secret Police to be re-educated at special camp. :northkorea:

...what?? so hazelynut and munkee played, but hazey played another match vs kade...so what happens to munkee and her match with hazelynut was that match pointless? and zombiegrub and missclickii played two matchs (which one will you be using to advance unless they have the same outcome) and if missclickii has played zombiegrub than what happens to quails, is she playing lilsusie?? what is this format im so confused T_T whats going on? + Show Spoiler [guessing match results] +
so hazelynut and munkee had played their game, and if munkee had won, she probably would rather not have agreed to the swapping of her opponent which negates her win. So doesnt that mean Hazelynut won that match which makes more sense as firstly like you said it was hazelynut's choice to play another match (so she doesnt mind losing that potential win and is probably confident from her win with munkee) also munkee would agree to that as well as she gets another opponent and another chance to remain in the tournament if the match with hazey is not counted. could of course be entirely wrong lol, but its just how it feels to me
p.s does this mean quails plays munkee as those are the only two players with out opponents
Hazelynut and Munkee played, Munkee wins and advances. Hazelynut still wants to play more though so she is then matched up with someone else that didn't have an opponent because Tesla was unable to play. Basically its a Ro8 bracket that looks like this
Hazelynut v Munkee ZombieGrub v MissClick Hazelynut v Kade Quails v Unknown
ZombieGrub and Missclick have played two sets is the wording, which makes me think they have played game 1 and game 2, with games 3,4, and 5 pending.

Siena essentially said that Zombie wasn't available when when she (Siena) was available, so she decided to practice for an SC2 tour, effectively taking herself out of the tour. My correspondence with Quails has not been good, so I switched out her opponent, so at the moment, she has no opponent, unless I make another swap, but I don't want to if I have too much difficulty getting her to play someone.
Munkee won and technically advanced, but she's apprehensive about continuing in the tour, but I will try to lure her into the next round with a trail of candy. Kade will finally get to play someone, because Hazelynut agree to take Tesla's spot. LivinPink and lilsusie are afk for the holidays, and I'm crossing my fingers that their schedules will allow for 1-2 hours of playing a really old computer game.
This went from a well organised tournament to a very shambled one. It is very uncharacteristic of women to be disorganised. I shall report this matter to the WTARA (Women Tournament Administration & Regulatory Authority). You'll receive a formal notice within the next five business days. Further details will be enclosed within the envelope.

Thanks to nina and all the girls that made this tournament possible (: I'll start streaming again in a few weeks so if you enjoy watching these games tune in to my stream.
I invited like, every girl gamer I could think of to play, even SC2 players. I wasn't sure how the tournament would work itself out skill-wise, since there is a huge gap between Reclusive and everyone else. I asked Reclusive and she declined to be in the tour, so the problem kind of worked itself out. Then, I knew Munkie was really strong, and probably would almost certainly win the tour with very little problem, even if there were several rounds to work through. Why? Because I had a basic thought behind the potential winner: whoever practices the most will win.
In the finale, I honestly feel like Munkie wasn't playing her best. Watching MissClick go 3-0 in the finals literally blew my mind, but she was was "in shape" from practice, and I think Munkie really underestimated the versatility that MissClick brings to her play. It's really rare where I see someone improve so quickly, so MissClick really proved she could pick up a new instrument and play it. Kudos and congratulations to her. BUT... I think Munkie is the stronger player. GO RE? I dunno! I think it would be a good match if they played again, but that's really not up to me.
Some people asked me why I didn't play, or if the girls in the tour were better/worse than me. The tournament was for fun, which is what StarCraft should be about. I didn't play in the tour because I was the referee. You can't be the referee and player, it just doesn't work. The only exception I would make to this rule is with L_Master, because he's very honest and has a great attitude about the game and community. But fawning over L_Master's niceness aside, hosting a tournament just to prove I can beat up my friends (or, attempting to) would be retarded. Historically, though, I've done really bad in tournament-situations, so I don't have any reason to think this would have gone any differently. Also, historically, I happen to react in an IdrAesque-manner to losing games that I deem "important", so it would be tough to be impartial judge if some kind of technicality would have been breached.
I'm kinda kidding. But I do get really upset with myself sometimes. I felt bad when the girls eliminated each other from the tour, because I knew how it feels to put your heart and time into something and then having a brick kicked into your face.
But would I do it again? Only under two conditions:
1 - The girls would have to say "Hey, host another one, I wanna play!" 2 - They'd have to NOT take 8 months to play their matches. <- important one.
If we can do these two things, I'll make sure to organize another one asaply. I'm sure if I do, the player who does the most practice into it will almost certainly win, which is always a good thing to look forward to. Unless Reclusive plays. Then you're all fucked.

Dragoons are pretty cute, too. In fact, let me list all the cute units:
Maybe it's more of a "oh cute, he has Dragoons, so easy to kill" - list, rather than something based on aesthetics. At least the Protoss version reads like it.
