Punish the kids who worked harder than you. Sounds fair.
Shotcoder you clearly miss my point. I just want to make it clear to all of you, though I think it is logical to begin with. I applaud Wands for working hard and achieving higher rank during ASL1. Good job to him and I think he deserved the finals. That doesn't exclude the fact that now he is B- and he is a better player. I repeat this for the third time now, god its getting redundant, but this league is for C rankers, or I am mistaking? So to make it even clearer you are signing up a B- player, doesn't matter if he played in the previous season or not. That is the fact here! About Rush I think everyone in the BW scene knew and knows now that he was way better than C level to begin with. I don't want to punish anyone, I just think its not fair to all the players in this league, that's all.

If you win an ASL, you're not allowed in anymore. Or some sort of variation of that with something like if you win an ASL you can't play in the next one but you can play in the one after that.
That way, we can ensure that there will be an equal level of skill among players and not "punish" the players who became the best of the C ranks. I don't think winning 1st place out of a $600 prize pool would really be a "punishment" persay. In a tournament with a skillcap such as this, players at the top can't hang around forever as they WILL improve and could possibly be TOO good for the other players. It will just be free money in the long run (and noobbashing). If you improved (which is the purpose of the tourny) to over C+ level that's great! The purpose of the tournament has been fulfilled and you no longer have a reason to participate. Also, just want to point out that the skill discrepancy is even worse at lower levels between ranks, more so than at higher ranks. For example, there is a much bigger difference between a D+ and C- player than there is between an A- and A player. So someone who is above C+ will have a much easier time beating said C-/C/C+ players.
Of course this leaves a loophole of someone really good intentionally getting 2nd/3rd/anythingotherthan1st to continually get money so something like 1st place unable to play in anymore ASL's and 2nd,3rd unable to play in next ASL would ensure that the amateur level tourny continually gets fresh faces at the top and a certain level of competition. (Plus everyone gets money!)
Just my 2cents, I welcome feedback and criticism. It's important to note that we want to create a graduation system, but we simply don't have the resources to implement it now. We're obviously going to be looking into that quite intently following ASL2 and before ASL3.
