What matters is the community and the game, not me. So I wouldn\'t mind to let someone else (preferably a coalition of people, not only one persone), to run it. Many things are important (such as money, managing Admins -and this is so important-, etc...) and all of this would need to be taken into consideration. If not, then we will see what the future has in store. Pat <3 I had no chance to read the entire thread and dunno if this was already suggested. Anyway, here’s my thoughts concerning it. The only viable plan is to turn PGT into a self-supporting system. Charges like server hardware, internet traffic, development, maintenance and admin team work must be compensated. This is the only way to go for any stable working system. The first step towards this is to reach a consent with Blizzard Entertainment. Blizzard should officially approve the existence of PGT and let the crew to earn some money (at least to compensate running expenses). I strongly believe that it’s possible now to conduct negotiations between PGT and Blizzard officials. Recently held MMI confirms that there’s someone who can help to organize such a bridge. The second step is to minimize the running cost and development expenses. It could be done by simplifying the web pages, network client-server interactions and automation of admin work. Network traffic could be reduced dramatically and, in ideal case, there no admin work will be required. Finally, it is necessary think about the actual way to make money. It could be a sponsor, WGT-like ad everywhere or, finally, a membership fare (after free trial indeed). The only problem here is to attract as much people as possible so the Koreans could be really helpful here. I may admit that even Blizzard might be the sponsor and/or initiator of everything. That is my basic idea, though the first step is going to be really hard.

Sorry, I'm not going to let you off easy now that I've got you responding. Do you have a sponsor? Are you trying to pony up yourself? Is this the only problem?

Dreaming is nice, but Blizzard filed a lawsuit against bnetd.org, you really thing they'll be supporting any private server?

I didn't say a word about Bnetd. Bnetd was just an instrument which was employed by PGT lately. The most important thing here is the willingness of community to play comfortably in hackfree environment and Blizzard's support of this idea. I can't except the variant, that upon the negotiations Blizzard could make an exception and allow PGT use Bnetd to host the service. I also can admit the possibility, that Blizzard might leave its own server resources for PGT. And finally, if it won't work, PGT could make its own server which will have nothing common with Bnetd and the principles of Bnetd. The only difficulty here is to persuade Blizzard that SC community really needs such a service.

No, not really, it still applies. Sorry, I'm not going to let you off easy now that I've got you responding. Do you have a sponsor? Are you trying to pony up yourself? Is this the only problem? We're got some arrangements. You must understand, I'm simply a Forum Admin. I know what's going on, but it's not my place to give out any specific details. That's left to Pat, Chr1s, TiLazer and Endurance. If I was allowed to tell you anything more, I would, trust me. I don't like keeping people in the dark, but it's not my decision. Everyone will be told when they decide it's time.

I'm just curious, no biggy but you never know. They may find it quite interesting that such a ladder was created with such fame, ease of use and ability to detect hacks and the overrall ability to bring the foreign and korean scene that much closer? Sounds to me with all the various post about this sponsor and that going this way and not that you guys seriously need a good PR rep ;/ meh.

If they did (thats a big if) agree to something, they would most likely have tons of ads on their site and on Bnet announcing their anti hack launcher and PGT site and such. Then tons of newbs (no offense, Im one too ) would be crawling all over it, and lower the skill of the ladder as a whole. I liked going there in hopes of playing good people and getting better, and while I may not be very good, I know there are a lot worse than me out there, and Im afraid to think of them all swarming the PGT server or site and lowering the skill level that I (and others) hoped to achieve and the competetive nature of the ladder itself, with so many amazing players vying for top spots.

You're just increasing the player base. Lowering the skill level would be if all the korean progamers left.

While Im sure some good players who havent caught wind of PGT will at that point, and they will be a nice addition, but lets face it. Most of you dont like pubbying, and having all those casual players join with a chance to play gosus would be just like playing a public game, only on a different server. Not to mention that if all those casual players joined, whos to say the koreans would stay? ... isn't there a rank system to solve that problem?
