Also, PGT was only a ladder. At WGTour, we also have NW and CL to keep up with.
Illegal? Ha. Blizzard didn't care. In fact, they probably were happy about it; anything that keeps starcraft fans interested and involved until SCG comes out. Also, isn't WGT going to switch to a server eventually?

We're switching the servers that WGT is hosted on, not getting a private server.
You forget the lawsuit Blizz had against Bnet-D?
|
there's tons of private servers, blizz only cares if they're pay servers.

Then no offense, PGT will always be better.
Have they ever raised a lawsuit against a non-pay server?
|
GI / NGI was shut down due to something about money I believe.
Its a matter of prefence whether or not a private server is better than Europe. I find WGT on Europe better than PGT because I can still talk to all my friends while I'm WGTing and about 90% of the time, can have a convo with my opponent. On PGT, I barely knew anyone and a lot of people were really competitive or didn't speak English. To me, that is better.

Of course, bnetd.org was a purely non-commercial website.
I don't think they would sue PGTour though.
|
isnt fsgs.net also a non commercial server? anyone remember fsgs?

I wanted to post something but generallly I find it pointless... 90% of pplz who complain about admins (does not matter on which site) don't know a thing about their work. Than each system has flaws... thng is that some systems develope later, learning from mistakes of already existing ones... PGT and WGT were different, work is organized in other way on this sites, admins encounter different problems... it's just sad that many of u base ur opinions on general things, u whine complain and yet u come to WGT, u play... I learned long time ago that almost noone respects admin job.
Last word - WGT is under constant changes... many things were improved, but there are also many left. This is possible thx to hard work of many WGT admins. I'm done u can come back to whining. Admin job teaches also how to ingore such things... (by ingore I mean usles whining, not constructive opinions)

im just glad we will have more ladders to play
|
The truth is PGT was a better ladder than WGT, but NOT due to admins, it was because of the system they were using. You really have no idea how much work we actually have to do. Dink, who recently became an admin, was really shocked by the amount of work we need to do. WGTour is going to ... change, pretty soon, I hope. Than we will see who was right - the ones flaming WGT admins all the time, or the ones blaming the system WGTour currently uses (bots, games confirmation etc).

Neogamei was shut down because the master just left without a word so no one could update it. Gamei was shut down because they were charging a FEE, while it was still free (every season except the last ones) blizz did NOT care.
The lawsuit against bnetd.. isn't that because on a lot of servers like those you don't need a cd key ;o?
|
I had contact with the master a few months after it was abandoned (but still functioning) asking him about the source code in order to try to host it in my pc bang. He had no problem with it, only needing a terminal access to linux to set it up. We were ready to go , if not for some fears that the pc bang would be overloaded and PGT which started at that time, making my lazy ass quit the project and start gaming :p However, ngi was 100% tuned for performance and as minimal need of admins as it could get so it could be very undemanding about srv power.

For one if you was a PGT Admin and you messed up or was rude you was not a Admin no more. You had to be nice if not you out the door. Another thing is the Scripts and private server just made PGT one of the best. People don't like to upload replays but still they have to on WGT becuase no private server and so on.
Thing with Blizzard. They can not do anything to PgTour the server was not even in the USA when pgtour was up. They just don't like the private servers becuase it does not go through all the shit to see if you got a valid cd key and so on. But when you connect to Bnet it makes sure you got a good key not banned and so on. Private servers does not do this. Thats one of the reasons Blizzard didn't like private servers
|
I've always wondered; Why can't private servers link up with a bnet server to check for a valid key? (like a binary bot uses a valid key to log on to bnet - it's not that hard to make a 3ed party binary logon program for the purpos of checking for valid keys)
