Undescribable wish I could feel what you're feeling right now. I'm not really sad though, it was a great series, and I don't feel bitter about losing tonight. But I can't say I'm not disappointed though. (man 2 perfect rounds...and the entire season T_T ) on the other hand I wish I could feel what you feel right now - I have influenza in real life... it's a fucking bitch haha
Ironically the influenza allowed me to stay home from school to watch it... so maybe illness isn't that bad after all

The money is secondary. finally somebody answered :D not saying the prize is just silly i think, what if its $47 or what if its $79k there's not an sc2 cup with no prize announced...
My two cents on this:
Proleague is such a big marketing venue for the companies that sponsor the teams, they don't really care that much for the price itself, but the value they can get from their team performing well. SC2 doesn't have a big team scene and with such sponsors and this is why they need to attract players and teams to participate in their league, so that THEIR league will get the best players/teams and the majority of viewers.
In BW you have KeSPA, who organizes everything and just looks for sponsors to give extra cash, but they advertise the sponsor so much that it all pays out in the end.
Other thing is that here players have set salaries and increases are given based on performance in proleague if you want an increased pay from the team, while in SC2 no billion dollar company has yet sponsored a team (correct me if Im wrong), thus teams need the money.
It was the case with GOMTV Intel Classic, they wanted players to participate, that would give them the viewers and eventually it would be another big league that GOM could profit from (many viewers, ad venue, etc). It was not considered an "official" league because KeSPA didn't take it into consideration and they had to give the biggest prize pool, if we can trust Tasteless, in a single league. But since it was not a KeSPA thing, even if you won it, you didn't get any KeSPA points, so players focused on things that mattered, and personal sponsors were not amused by rookies beating pros, who went there to see if they can win without practising. Unlike the OSL/MSL where you get personal sponsorship.
The thing that is keeping STX league is that it is a team league and big companies that sponsor the teams benefit more from it.
TL;DR: It is a big advertisement for the sponsoring companies and they don't care for the prize pool as much as the advertisement they will get.

Plus his team was in Child Labour Terran mode so his efforts there almost felt like a waste of time.
Now he's tied for most OSLs ever, most MSLs ever and has just won a second Proleague in a row. All with a busted wrist. Wow, just wow. Inspirational stuff to say that least. You have your dates messed up bro. When did Flash not deliver "over and over" in OSL/MSL? He won almost every one he competed in from mid 09 until now. Only a VERY select few he didn't win. I think he won almost all but one in 2010. Your years are wrong Early 2009. He was in great form in Winner's league and still in OSL and MSL. Lost to Best to crash out of the OSL and the next day to Leta from a 1-0 advantage. Next season: group of death in the OSL. Lost to [cheater]Yellow in with some wierd Valkyrie rush on HBR, then lost to Jaedong and was out. I think he lost a series to Kwanro in the MSL. Don't remember the games but I assume it involved a lot of zerglings. He beat Firebathero in a great game but asked his coach to let him play on Battle Royal and lost to Oversky. KT didn't make it to the playoffs.
haha... surprisingly enough one of the kwanro matches he got kwanrolled by some ultralisks on outsider when kwanro built 10 - 15 sunkens at his natural

Unfortunately most Korean netizens seem to be questioning Coach Park's decision to send BeSt out again and are criticizing him for it. I hope that SKT fans won't bash BeSt; out of all the players to send out, BeSt seems to be the most sensitive to losses and is a pretty emotional guy. He needs all the support he can get right now.

There's no prize money for winning the superbowl or world series. The money comes from the viewership powering the sponsors. That's how an actual sport operates and it's a level of success that Broodwar is lucky to have.

i remember when flash went for msl finals against zero, and everybody said that zero has chance against flash, due to their encounters, also with best, he is a flash killer, etc. the thing is when flash is in god mode(super prepared) you cant trust in statistics anymore, they can be deceiving and backfire.

I think the prize money for the SPL final is around 80k - 100k $ .

Eh, the impact on his mental condition can't be as bad as the 2008 OSL Final vs JulyZerg, now can it?
To be honest, I was questioning Park's decision to send out Best to face Flash after their earlier game, but it seemed like he recovered from that ok, he just needed a bit of extra oomph to win. Which he lacked. Sadly (or not, depending if you're a fan or not).

If they indeed are not giving out prize money this year, I can understand the decision because Shinhan/Kespa lost a lot of money due to the cancellation of the Shanghai finals.
