We are very happy to announce today official the "WCG 2005 - Samsung Euro Championship". 300 of the best players out of 30 countries will compete for overall 150.000,- € prize money. The official Games for the exciting event from the 10th of March to the 13of march at CeBIT 2005 are announced today, you'll find them at the Games Section.
More information about our Partners, who will be invited, how does the rules look like, what's the official program or how do you get tickets for the limited access party at Thursday evening will come very soon.
Mondragon/Methos/Fisheye are invited according to www.broodwar.de. It will be held in Hannover and according to mondi all expenses will be paid (I guess he read it somewhere).
I guess other top competitors will get invited as well, so I guess it'll be pretty cool. I hope I get invited .

I would really like to be invited it for this as well. But I probably won't since I didn't compete in wcg 2004 (??? nld orga was crap and everyone had to pay themselves) , regardless of my current skill.

I hope to go to CeBIT this year...

Some people such as ret and myself won't get invited, unfortunately I would say, since it says they'll only invite people who attended wcg 2004 in san francisco.
Sad sad

who's methos? is he also from germany? and what race does he play?
Sweden1225 Posts
frankly, there are better germans to be picked than methos. however, he was in WCG so pity the others. Breakdown for instance who if i remember correctly wasn't even able to participate in the WCG german qualifier.
T_T
methos is gentleman, lost to larios just yesterday, so yeah he is not top 3 germany now.. he was quite good before, maybe he'll get back in there soon
no methos isnt gentleman, methos is a Z user, gentleman is P
mondi is becoming pretty famous, why doesn't ToT send him to Korea ?
Methos was formerly known as iX.GuM I don't think this will ring a bell for you, but Zymurgy is right, Gentleman =/= Methos
Mondragon has got to finish school first and I doubt he will go to korea then
Netherlands13554 Posts
ToT doesn't have the means to send him to Korea either
ToT doesn't have this higher organisation above mondi or anything, it's just a fun clan with friends, unlike pG

give belgium (heart of europe a chance plz?) we raised some talented players over the years

also UK please. Midian/Nuros

European union has 25 countries alone. Add norway, swiss, bulgaria, romanina, ukraine, belarus, albania, croatie, serbia, moldavia, macedonia, bosniaand maybe russia and turkey. Then theres still some independant states

(dont ever say nld orga was crap, because you should be happy you even got given the oppertunity to pay for yourself. This wasnt even the situation at first. Besides you really screwed dutch wcg orga over)
Netherlands4511 Posts
if paying for urselves isn't crap to you, then i dunno, but yeah it was nice they given us that oppurtunity but from that point of view you can't expect for everyone to just pay for themselves to go. So you won't have all top players guaranteed.
Netherlands13554 Posts
Uhm... the deal was that Benny trusted us four that we would all pay our own tickets. We all said in a shared MSN convo that we would be willing to pay if we'd qualify. Yes you said that too, so you kinda screwed them over.
That you decided after that convo that you would suddenly NOT pay for your own ticket, it's not their fault, it's yours ;O
but. say what you want, you can't say the organisation was crap. I'm really thankful for the Dutch orga that we were given the chance to participate. If it were any other organisation that wasn't as trustful as Benny, we wouldn't even have BW players at WCG.

I already know that Twisted you think I suffer memory loss? um yeah like I said it was nice for them to do that for us, and I said that cuz I really believed in it but some stuff came up. :\ since tuig went they didn't really get screwed over anyway.
but I think if you have to pay yourself, that equals crap. And as an organisation you can't expect everyone to pay for themselves and go with it, so you don't have the guarantee all top players will participate if you use a pay yourself method. And they never had 100% guarantees, it was very 'unofficial' and not binding. I had good intentions to go and pay for myself but some stuff came up and that's life. That's my point.
It's about ECG now anyway, and surely I deserve to go much more than tuig.

I think they should do it like in 2003, invite the people who qualified for THAT years MAIN event TT

hmm...just noticed, the oldest game besides sc is cs1.6 from 2000, which i guess will be replaced by cs2 soon. leaving bw as the oldest game (1997) and wc3 (2003) as the 2nd oldest. Kinda tells you a bit about the quality of the game and the community around the game no? :D
naaah, come on .. cs 1.6 is not THE big step forward from 1.0-1.5, the graphics and the gameplay are basically the same and it's not that much newer than bw.
will be fun, though they should invite top 3 of some countries who werent able to send 3 ppl... like sweden :D
do i get this right that ONLY germany's WCG qualificants are invited? and not the qualificants of the other european ocuntries? how are the missing spots filled in order to get 300 players participating? imho the whole thing is a bit unclear
Netherlands did send all top players to san francisco. It was nice to see...
But i think its hard for samsung to know which players deserve to go...im sure they are thinking the players who qualify for wcg should be the best players and the easiest way to go...hard for ppl who barely know how the community looks in europe to pick out others players than those who qualified for the only worthmentioning tournament of the year. So yea everyone knows breakdown is better than methos but breakdown didnt wanna participate in the wcg and show he was better than methos and therefor he didnt get picked for this either. Btw paid trip for everyone or just the germans to hanover? :D
Netherlands13554 Posts
Everyone will get all expenses paid for, at least that's what I read on the site.
Okay, but does everyone that qualified for San Francisco get an instant invite or is it only the top1 in each country ?
yeah, my thoughts exactly Tomson! Do i get to go ?? ^^
= ) it would be cool if they had 1 tourney for atleast a couple of extra spots for those who couldnt qualify for wcg tho : )
Triton all i care is that belgium gets a spot.
If it is something called 'Europe blabla' then one of the first countries who actually started this EUROPE thing and is kinda the capital of it should get a spot. Bulgaria is nothing like Belgium btw.
its all about sponsors...every nation has to fix for themself how to sponsor their playaz to different events like wcg in different games ;o
how far is hannover from belgium? 700 kilometers or smth like that?
my man haypro is gonna win next swe wcg . trust me

one of the admins of the wwcl (german host of lan tourneys etc.) said this and the wwcl will help to host the ecg.

there a total of ~300 players invitited and there are 8 games. just think about cs - 1 team = 5 players and there are still 6 other games.
Even if cs had 20 teams there still be 200 players left ca 30 each game, and again i doubt the consoll games have so many players....

This is rumours and nothing more, for all we now that guy could have misinterpereted the message, or the other guy said something wrong.... We should all relate to their info, and that dosen't say anything bout what u r claiming

Yeah but hm.. how do they invite players, and when will this happen?
i just asked the headadmin/organisator of the ECG (Thomas v. Treichel like you can see in the press release etc).
They will invite only ONE player of each country in every game.
liar. why would they say 300 gamers compete it would be closer to 30 now

probably fisheye, cuz of the succes in the past I guess...and the fact he is pG..
Netherlands13554 Posts
Fisheye and mondragon will probably have to play qualifications.
Normally they would pick the player that got highest in WCG SF2004, but since they both ended top 16, they have to play qualification probably.
Source somewhere at broodwar.de forums.
Too bad only one player from each country... like two would have been more fair and more interesting as well
Sweden1225 Posts
Only one player per country and they pick turbo (turbo didn't do anything wrong, not inclining that) is so fucked up
KAKA
I want to play. =x Damn europe. Being all snobbish with their Euro noses in their Euro air. >.<
If it's only 1 player per country I think only those who really deserve it should be invited, like eri from norway, trek from sweden, zelo from spain etc. But overall i have to say that this whole top1 thingy is total crap imo .. in some countries you can't really determine who deserves it like in germany (mondi/fisheye?), poland (kazio ? draco ? ...) or NLD (naz ? twist ? ret ? strafe ?) and if the admins pick turbon from norway (no offense ..) they're just absolutely clueless.
nothing is crap...its samsungs tournament and we should be grateful they support this shitold game called broodwar
Netherlands should pick me... Because i'm sure i'm the best player overthere..
On January 19 2005 09:42 TreK[cF] wrote: nothing is crap...its samsungs tournament and we should be grateful they support this shitold game called broodwar
it's just a pity that they aren't even able to figure out who's #1 of a country.

Out of Mondi / Fisheye the choice is obviously Mondi imo.

Imagine you're a worker at samsung and you're supposed to pick the best player of each country and you never even saw that game I'd pick fisheye then, cuz he accomplished way more in the last years than Mondi, but obviously nowadays mondi would be the smarter pick

They will want to take tomsOon, but hes learning to his mature exam which is very close ;-) So I hope they'll pick Draco =]

I dont see the point in taking players because of their old achievments in the mondragon/fisheye case. They both came far in WCG (ended at the same place), and the only thing that really differs in the recent past is that Mondragon won the german qualifications, which makes him the most fair choice (imo).
Sure, Fisheye is a big fish, but I don't think it would be a fair pick to take him..
