Well, upgrading hydra range+speed and ovie speed is costly if you're making guardians and it's also somewhat time consuming which means you have to prepare it before the greater spire is finished. Probably leaves some weird timing to terran or something, but I'm not exactly sure.

What could terran do he can't kill your hydra/guard, expand? Hydra without range can protect overlords, and it takes some time to mass ultra/ling as well. Hydra/guard is moving slower, but it kills defense more effectively, maybe make range upgrade first, and move out with it you have to wait for guards anyway. Speed upgrade could finish when you are already out.

The thing with hydras is that they suck vs anything that isn't pure mech. And they're not going to be that effective vs wraiths anyway. Also, when going crazy Zerg you want to pump out ultras as early as possible. Those guardians delayed that push just long enough for the first ultras to clean it up, and then hyvaa's econ advantage could build up. So they were actualy kinda useful, if not very cost effective. Leta tried turtling and prepared a big push to come back into the game, but that sweet drop was the perfect counter.
