To celebrate the launch of Justin.tv's Gaming section, Justin.tv is sponsoring a tournament in conjunction with iCCup celebrities Brent and Kenny. The iCCup StarCraft Invitational brought to us by Justin.tv boasts an impressive $1250 in prize money and all of the biggest names in the foreign scene!
JustinTV Gaming will, over the next 5 weeks, bring you all the top foreign StarCraft action as the StarCraft players duke it out for the grand prize of $700 in what has been dubbed the 'JSI'. Each week, iCCup's own Brent and Kenny (of StarCraft with Brent and Kenny fame) will follow the tournament closely and bring you all the best footage, news and drama from the front lines, including highlights of each match.
As mentioned, Justin.TV's Gaming sub-site is providing this opportunity, and they appreciate the big gaming presence over at Justin.tv. If you have a gaming broadcast you'd like promoted by Justin.tv, you can follow this link.

Are you going to be releasing reps?
If not, are you going to be commentating all the games?
|
Yes and almost all the games Yes.
|
Cool of Justin.tv to do this, it's nice to see some 3rd party support of Starcraft.
|
Also something to note is that other sponsors working with the tournament may mean special prizes and perhaps even fan prizes to reward dedicated viewers, as mentioned on StarCraft with Brent and Kenny!
|
Not Starcraft related, but I met Justin when he was first doing his justin.tv thing. It's good to see that the venture was successful.
|
Awesome. Will be watching it all hehe

1) Idra goes for macro-based build that cuts corners with limited scouting and early game defence 2) Idra gets cheesed 3) Idra complains cheeser has no skill, etc.

nice! So many great tournys for foreigners lately.

awesome! i need some help with keeping up with all the foreigner events can you add these to teamliquid calendar?

This is the best time to have foreigner tournaments while all the Koreans are not busy.

The ideal time would have been a few weeks ago, when there was literally nothing going on Korean BW-wise. Now it's about to get real busy with the OSL, MST, and PL all starting in the next two weeks(although it's not as busy as when OSL Ro16/MSL Ro32 are going full force).

rofl thx duran. just doesn't feel right to play in a tournament without that :D

Oh, so it's iNkA - knew there were some capital letters in there somewhere Made it like IdrA though.

Replays will be released probably every thursday from the 8th October after the Live Show with Brent and Kenny where they will commentate on highlights of the best 4 matches in the early rounds, and then entire games as the tournament progresses deeper into the brackets.
Replays will be sent by competitors to Psyonic and he will release them without threat of being prematurely spoiled
To players participating - you should have recieved an email from PsyonicReaver regarding all the rules so check your inboxes!
Also, I am a big fan of the map pool n_n Should have some exciting games. See the binary beast brackets for it, but basically it is Destination and then loser picks from Destination, Colosseum II, Neo Medusa, Outsider, Heartbreak Ridge.
ALSO! The latest episode of Brent and Kenny discussed the JustinTV StarCraft Invitational so if you want to head over to iCCupTV on Justin.tv here. They talk about each player individually, briefly discuss the maps, and make a few predictions.
I kind of hoped for an IdrA vs iNcontroL first round game just to promote the game really well in waht would have surely been the pinnacle of mannered gaming.

If I read the brackets correctly it should happen in the second round if the favourites win :D However, XiaOzI might pull an upset against IdrA

This is gonna be cool. Too bad no new maps though.
|
New maps would provide low quality games (comparative to maps like Des and HBR on which these players have SO much experience) and are not really suited to a cash prize tourney, more to a special exhibition match :3
Once the maps are added to the iCCup map pool and some handsome admin puts them in MotW hopefully we will see foreign players getting a lot of experience and confidence on them!

Edit: You know what. Not even worth my time to reply to you but about ~43% of the players are from my side of the planet. ~38% if you exclude Idra and Artosis because they live in Korea. You let me know who I should have gotten instead that consistently plays well in tournaments from this side.

News that will be added to the OP.
JF quits. 1st Protoss Backup is being sent in.
Welcome [Pan]Future to the JSI.
Some may argue why not somebody from Europe. (As I know the Europeans will.) But JF is a Protoss from the Western Hemisphere, thus getting another Protoss from the same time zone/area is the priority. Future also happened to be our 1st Backup as well so it works out.
We hope to see JF participate with us in the future when he has more time available to play.

Ya, announcers mentioned it a couple times. Anyone who knows him, is really not surprised by now. If he calmly types GG and a smiley face... and left.... I'd be worried it wasnt really IdrA[bm].

Yeah, everyone was another time when IdrA lost to someone (was it ret?) and then the replay came out and there was a GG there. So you can't know can you.
But, tbh he probably didn't this time.
In other news IdrA won game two on Medusa, game three starting now on Outsider.
Idra purple terran @ 5 XiaOzi orange zerg @ 1

I like Outsider a lot. It make's for some really interesting SC.

Am I the only one that was hoping we'd get to see those fun replay commands during a stream like this after that awesome thread that documented them? I wanna see kill leaderboards and simultaneous resource info!

Seeing the Upgrades and Resources as the click on units, and PSI count, is good enough for me.

We know but your commentators think he's an unknown player.
|
A lot of times when I see Idra lose to zerg, it's when he pushes out mid game without scouting and gets caught off guard by a flanking force out in the field or a counter.
I think if he works on just watching out better for that kind of stuff, he would be perfect against foreign zergs.

Thank you all for listening in. We appreciate any feedback. I will personally admit I'm not the best caster but I try my best as I'm sure Kenny will say the same. Can we get results somewhere in one place?

e: NVM - lower half of pg 6 has them.

going really well, definitely going to follow the whole tournament

Guys really need to stfu with the Idra stuff. It was only bo3, Xiaozi is damn good zvt, and Idra can't win them all. After he wins ASL, next thing that will be said is how he needs to be banned from foreign leagues. I mean honestly he was won so many foreign leagues recently, SC2GG starleague, ESWC, Valor, ESL. He made a mistake and lost to a good player on a zerg favored map. I guess he deserves some of this for how "bm" he is, but it shouldn't be expected that he wins every foreign league he plays in.
|
Whoever is doing the actual broadcasting between Kenny and Brent (I'm sorry I don't recall which voice belongs to which caster. The one who does the loud GEEEGEEEE) has their mic input up too loud. The broadcast would have been a little more enjoyable if it didn't vary between too loud or too soft depending upon which one of you was talking.
All in all entertaining games so far.
|
Yeah. We noticed that in post-production. It will be fixed for next weeks cast.
By the way VODs are up on justin.tv/iccup if you'd like to watch. I will edit this post and Del will edit the front page as soon as we get the replays in a stable location to handle the downloads.

In the last game of the night you guys went about 5-6 minutes without addressing what was going on in the game at all. I didn't hear it, but someone in the stream chat (from TL) mentioned one of you messed up when defining SK Terran. Only other thing was some in-game music in the background would be nice (not necessary, I'm just used to it).
Overall I thought it went pretty well, the games were enjoyable, and though there were a few times where the lag was a bit annoying, it was never unbearable. Thanks for a well organized and orchestrated event guys! (for the viewer at least - I can't speak for the players)
Keep up the good work!

Yeah I will talk to Justin about the VOD's, seems like some are having a few issues, but I will make sure it gets taken care of as soon as the work day starts in another couple hours. Thanks again for the positive comments guys, it's much appreciated!

lol @ Draco vs White-Ra game 2..
|
I predict koll takes the crown. Second choice is White-ra. Third is ret.
Reverse the order and it should be most likely to win, but those are my gut feelings.

What? They work, work exceptionally well too - ret vs shauni on Destination was tense!
|
I just checked the VODs on justin.tv/iccup and they are all working for me. Let me know if it's working for anybody else.
Also, the Iccup website seems to be down. =(
|
hey why fenix is eliminated? his game with yayba is postponed o.O
|
Fenix was removed due to not having his game played in time with Yayba and not showing up when asked to have his games played by. It was stated in our rules a week before the players had to play when the deadline was to play, and since Yayba showed up and Fenix did not we had to give w.o to Yayba.
Brent can probably explain nicely as to the exact situation as he was the one who stuck around for that series in particular, but I believe that is the jist of it.
|
To clarify more. Yayba and Fenix did meet to play on Tuesday but there were some serious lag issues between the two. We pushed the game back to Wednesday but Fenix showed up an hour late and Yayba had family/friend things planned out for the night and had to leave.
One thing that wasn't taken into account was Daylight Savings Time and I believe that was the cause of Fenix being an hour late, since Peru is not affected by DST. I pushed back their play time till after the 5pm PDT cutoff to 11:30pm PDT. (About 7:30am CET) But neither player showed up on MSN. So after consulting with Kenny, we decided to stick with the original showing of Yayba and give him the w/o under the cause of Internet problems on Fenix's end since that was the original issue added with the late appearance.
As for Dimaga, the last I had heard from him was on Sunday that he was going to play Infernal on Tuesday or Wednesday. I tried to contact him numerous times via Iccup PM, MSN, and Email between Sunday and Thursday with no response. Infernal, being friends with Dimaga, tried as well to contact him without any contact at all. I did try contacting the ROX manager as well and his fellow teammates but all they could give me was Dimaga's ICQ that he might have been on. Dimaga did finally reply to my PMs about 4 hours after I had already updated the brackets to give Infernal the w/o.
Please understand we are trying our best to keep this tournament as structured as possible and we will invite Fenix and Dimaga back for future tournaments but we have a time line here to get this done before WCG China where many of the remaining players in this tournament will have issues with.
|
I'm really enjoying this tournament so far, despite not being able to watch the VOD's. I spent the entire afternoon watching the replays instead. The highlights for me was Shauni's pylon placement on Heartbreak, as well as the entire game between White-Ra and Draco on the same map. Funny shit. But there were many good games! I'm however very disapointed to see Idra lose, especially the way he did it. I've seen him do pretty much the exact same mistake on Desti before. Now I don't really know who to root for in this tourney. Cloud is awesome (kick-ass storms against Castro!), but it would feel weird rooting for a Toss. Artosis is cool, but he will never win. I guess I'm gonna go with Ret, and hope that he doesn't run into Dinot. Go Ret!
GG's!
|
By the way guys, update on the VOD situation. Justin TV was doing some repairs to their system when we saved them, so one of the guys I'm working with over there is going to get them all fixed up soon. Sorry about the wait on that!

They fixed the inituial problems with the vods, but now, atleast for me they lag quite a bit and "buffers" every 30 secs making it annoying to watch so I hope its just my internet, but I doubt it

eh can you skip time in these vods?

The results for round 2 are coming up, they are being cast tomorrow Scara at around midday our time. 4AM CET.
I'm really looking forward to Ret and BRAT_OK, and I'm a fan of DinOt too.
|
I've no idea how good Dinots ZvT is. How does it measure up to Haypros TvZ? Odds anyone?
|
Norway28678 Posts
dinot is awesome zvt, 2-0'd tarson without too much trouble in round 1 he has great muta control but makes a little too many lings and not enough drones which means he's more likely to beat a better player but also more likely to lose against a worse player ;p
from what ive seen he's really good against mech and hayder seems to mech quite often so iunno..

Just reminding you guys, in another hour we will be going LIVE casting at least *four* best of 3 matches from the RO16!
Live Stream Here Hope to see you guys there!
|
Ohhh Boy DJ psy and Kenny Sounds amazing cant wait for the games!
|
hmm, so i thought the streams were suppose to be on thursdays --a ? umhh and today is definately wednesday im not complaining just wondering about the change in schedule.
|
Yea from here on out they will be Wednesday, last week we had some changes from our original schedule. It will be Wednesday 7pm PDT from here on out for the games, and the follow-up Brent and Kenny show each Thursday at 7pm PDT. Thx!
|
The schedule has been in iccup.com for a while
|
Also on the Thursdays during Brent and Kenny the guys will probably talk a bit about the JSI too - just basic things like recaps, results and predictions.
I will be uploading the reps after today's show, too.
|
We did 4 matches tonight but I sincerely apologize for the lag issues and the computer problems. My parts were suppose to have been in today but they didn't arrive and will be here tomorrow. My computer will have quad cores and DDR3 RAM to help make the stream as smooth as possible. As for the internet, I will be calling my IP tomorrow and ask them what was going on with my connection.
I am sorry for the terrible quality of the streaming tonight and I take full responsibility. Kenny and I both hope you'll forgive us this week and we'll see you back next week.

I despise players who don't have the decency to say GG. Those who've played the game for this long, and who've followed the progression of e-sports, but yet lack the decency to be courteous are pathetic. It's immature and rude, and appears to be a common trait of American players (in particular Media/EG players). Grow up.
note: Yes its a gross generalization and I apologize to those it doesn't apply to. You know who you are.
|
I don't say gg either but it's more than I am angry at myself for losing rather than disrespecting my opponent.
|
I despise people who make random, negative assumptions about others because they sometimes fail to adhere to a ritual of typing two letters at the end of every game.
|
On October 22 2009 15:59 Tsagacity wrote: I despise people who make random, negative assumptions about others because they sometimes fail to adhere to a ritual of typing two letters at the end of every game.
How is what I said a random assumption? It's considered polite to say good game and you're clearly missing the point if you can't appreciate that. The korean e-sports scene has quite clear guidelines regarding this and for quite obvious reasons. While I accept that people will leave a game because they are disappointed with the way they played, it's still impolite to leave without saying something. Why? The same reason that people shake hands at the end of tennis matches, that people don't cheat on the scorecard at golf, and that you thank your doctor for their time. It's common courtesy and its far from a random ritual.

I understand where you're coming from, but that's still impolite, and I believe more so in a tournament setting.

As we keep stating. We do the best we can to accommodate time zones but really, we live on the west coast of the USA. Kenny gets off work at 6PM. What do you want him to do? Quit his job to cast the games at your convenience? We really try to do our best so please stop rehashing the timezone conflict. We put VODs up for people to watch if they miss the live cast, it's about self control to not spoil yourself before watching them.
If there is something you can offer to help us out, we'd appreciate it, and you're welcome to PM me with any other thoughts.

Just to let you know, your VODs are always messed up. Every single round of this tournament was. They often cuts in the middle, then the next one is either next game already or is repeating part of previous one. Finals end in the middle of Mana-WhiteRa match (no more parts to view). I had to watch replays even tho I prefer ones commentary.
|
I fixed the VODs of the Finals. It seems the maintenance time of Justin Servers is Wednesdays at around 11pm PST so whenever we save the VODs, the servers kinda screw them up so I have to fix them the next day.
There isn't really a way to change the time of when they do that stuff just for our show so I will try my best to correct any anomalies that occur. Thank you for bringing it up though!
