If you know a bit of starcraft im pretty sure you can figure out what hes showing.

Edit: Made an Asterisk on the ones i knew about.

if not spoiler:

1. drone fight using M then rightclick on enemy unit (like muta micro)
2. moving idle drones in a group of working drones with shift (very cool. will be using)
3. move attack units in a group of working drones with shift (very cool. will be using)
*4. stack drones on building gas using G
*5. drone a gas with G meanwhile its building (it will start working when it arrives if extractor is done)
*6. not sure what hes showing at expansion but i think its drone formation from main
7. drop drones from lord and mine em at once using shift meanwhile lord is in group (very cool trick)
*8. move larva to left using s meanwhile larva is in group with any unit (like lord or drone)
9. drone mining manipulation using C to re-arrange its path for fast mineral delivery then return
10. shows which minerals on this map can be mineral manipulated with drone/scv/probe
*11. unsure again what hes showing here. im still guessing drone formation
*12. with hydras; showing hydra formation for attacks. Also shows how to use M on building to compact hydras so all can attack at once.

the end.

In no.6 and no.11 he's showing what alt+click does. Select some drones, click something else, alt+click one of the drones that you had previously selected and it will select the same drones as before, as opposed to ctrl+click or just shift boxing them or w/e.

No shit? That is totally new to me and would be really cool.

Yeah I knew about that alt thing but I still haven't figured out when it could come in handy? I guess if you send many workers to another base when you get reaver dropped, it might be easier to send them back using alt

I enjoyed watching the video now that someone explained it to me.

I wonder though if that move trick could be used on say Dragoons against Marines & Medics or just only on buildings?

How Alt-key works: https://i.imgur.com/bypn4Ei.png

Short explanation: Any one unit can only have ONE Alt-group remembered. If you click that unit it will always select the most recent group-selection it had (unless it has been forgotten after 8 groups selected without the unit itself being included).

You can have units being selected by multiple Alt-groups but what it does is only remap the units stored Alt-group to its current A-G. (this is what the picture shows visually).

Other info: When selecting larvas, the larvas themselves becomes an Alt-group. When lings hatch, the extra lings will not be included in the selection.

When is Alt-key useful? No idea so far. It seems Control-group selection also overrides Alt-groups, so by that you cant have more groups than the current 10 (0-9).

I didn't know the shift trick on the workers but I had seen many pro videos of them doing it, useful post.

Something I recently shared with my Protoss teammates and to my surprise some didn't know is that if you press stop on a reaver once it has launched and scarab the scarab will immediately explode without doing any damage. This is pretty useful when you know that the scarab that is currently ongoing will most likely dud, you can explode it and shoot another one instead of waiting for it to finally dud.

Something like that but I wouldn't think about this only in the limits of such typical situations. It's not a trick for this or that situation, it's a multi-purpose mechanic.

If I understood it correctly, this seems to be useful for inumerable on-the-fly-micro situations. Situations where you have a bunch of units on your screen, then you shortly want to split one of or click something else, but want to be able to re-select that specific bunch shortly after even if not all are on screen.

Let's say you have a ctrl-group of 6 vultures and you want to harrass, you go for the opponents 3rd base. Then suddenly you see an opportunity and you split 3 vultures off to go towards the natural (this you make an Alt-group because want to keep the whole ctrl-group for a quick evac later or something and all your keys from 0-9 already have s.th. assigned). Then you let 2 of those 3 vultures rest behind the natural-mineral line and keep using the lefover one vultures one screen away in the main. Then you see the opponent coming and want to bring those from the natural into the main, so you just alt-click the one in the main and boom....

This example I just now made up might be a bit complicated (you'd probably even want to sacrifice those vultures in the natural to buy more time) - but like with every mechanic, if you have that mechanic grinded into your gears so that you can do it anytime without thinking about it, I would say there are dozens of situations every game where it would be useful. Maybe it just saves you a second or two, or a screen-scroll or minimap-click, but every bit can count in BW.

The way saber explained it, that you can have multiple Alt-groups existing at the same time, if you manage to keep track of which units you "Alt-grouped" when, you can really do some magic with this in certain specific situations.

@InDi - For the same reason one has to remember to use [H]old instead of [S]top when you want to move Reaver and shoot again. An accidental [S]top there would explode current Scarab as you said.

I believe you can leave a huge army somewhere and select groups and use alt to attack with all of them quickly, but it's still not super fast like with ctrl groups of course, just slightly faster than selecting

Another possible application for the Alt-grouping came to my mind:

(And let's say you have all your hotkeys in use for other stuff which can easily happen in the lategame.)

You have a group of X marine/medic or lings or gateway-units selected (the group that you later want to access via Alt-Select) - and you want to use those to scout for enemy expansions and then attack there with all of them.
If you don't have a hotkey free and you start sending out those units, you'd have a hard time to make them all attack at one point later on.

You select them all (aka make them an Alt-group), then put one unit aside (can be done via shift-deselect).
Now you start sending out all the others to all the expansion-locations by shift-deselecting one after the other e.g. (so they all lose the initinial Alt-group).
As soon as you have found an expo to attack, you Alt-select the unit that you put aside that still "remembers" the Alt-group, and now you have all X selected again, a-move the expo or assemble somewhere first.

You might say that there are other ways to do this, but it gives you the idea: I think like this, by using the first unit to "memorize" the selection, you can do some nice stuff if you cannot or don't want to hotkey a group of units but also don't want to completely lose control over them.

In the same way you could also quickly send out air-units to scout a certain air-space but still be able to re-assemble them quickly, or you could build a very long line of sieged tanks and then re-select them all quickly to un-siege.

That's interesting, you can do it with overlords if you're zerg and have near infinite alt groups, f2 to where the overlord group is and control from there
