Default hotkeys. I enjoy pressing the U button for burrowing lurkers. It ensures that I really want to burrow my lurkers. Ill take the time needed to press U key over the quickness of pressing a fast one.

It's mostly a matter of personal preference but I would not recommend putting ultras on R. If you select a hatchery and hit SR but the hatchery doesn't have any larva, you would be prompted to set a rally point for the hatchery, which is very annoying and breaks your macro momentum pretty badly. For the same reason I recommend changing hotkey for the overlord transport upgrade if you're mapping overlord to V.

If you have a German version of the game, remapping the keys would make it a lot easier. However, I find Zerg hotkeys to be fairly easy. Most of the keys you will use will be on the left side of the keyboard or on the top row.

I'm using the following at the moment

General
patrol: V (I use 1v2v3v4v instead of 1a2a3a4a, and attack for boxed units)
burrow: R
hold: F
move: S
stop: X

Drone:
basic: Z
advanced: V

Hatchery: R
Colony: X (sunk: Z, spore: V)
Evo: F
Spire: W
Nest: E
Nydus: R
Cavern: A
Mound: S

make lurkers, lair, hive: Z

Defiler
Consumer: Q
Plague: A

Larve:
overlord: A
zergling: R
mutalisk: B
scourge: Y

Useless buttons (rally, gather): K

All upgrades are grid layout, starting at Q

This just made my brain explode. Just the bold in general makes no sense to me.

I use my thumb for V, so I can go 1v2v3v4(v/sd)5sd6sd7sd by just pivoting my wrist without having to lift my hand. My hands are also quite small, so my thumb goes there quite naturally which is nice for muta harass as well. R for burrow is because I usually have lurkers on 4 and/or 1*, and the rest are simply not-too-out-of-the-way from my typical hand positions.

*I find it easier to mentally separate two armies by hotkeying left to right and right to left.

I might have to try this. I just spent a good 5 minutes trying to visualize it

I have:

Overlord: V
Mutalisk: T
Scourge: C (accidentally hitting ss is the worst, since I use cherry mx reds)

Morph to / research Lurker: G
Burrow / Drop (from overlord): D
All the energy upgrades are E, all the speed upgrades are S.

Might be a few more but those were the important ones for me.

I recently rebound basically all my keys, with a couple exceptions (Attack, Stop, and Hold Position are too ingrained to change for me, and all in pretty good places.) For buildings and upgrades, I rebound things to grid layout, putting most upgrades on QWE.

I bind my Hatcheries to 890, so I rebound:

Select Larva: H
Drone: J
Zergling: K
Hydralisk: L
Overlord: O
Scourge: P
Mutalisk: M
Defiler: I
Ultralisk: U
Queen: N

I also bound Patrol to D (ASDH for unit control are all pretty close, and D is comfortable to hit with control group 6, which is usually my Mutalisks), and Burrow to R.

It's taking some time to get used to, but it's definitely a lot more comfortable (and faster) to macro by hitting 0hk9hk8hk, than 0sz9sz8sz, for example. I'm not 100% sold on grid layout for buildings, and am still not sure if I want to adjust Defiler/Queen spells, but I'm enjoying the larva changes so far.

It sounds crazy, I know, but once they're memorized, it REALLY is a lot more comfortable to hit with my Hatchery hotkeys. The way I see it, you can't rebind your control group hotkeys, but you CAN rebind all your macro to the right side of your keyboard!

I do, but I use the left side of my keyboard, not right. It's easier for me to 1a2a3a4a5a as opposed to 6a7a8a9a0a imo

That's kind of what I wanted to set up. I wanted to have a setup where I use the left side of my keyboard for micro, and the right side of my keyboard for macro. 1a2a3a4a5a to move all my units in, then move my hand to the right side of the keyboard, and do 0hl9hl8hl to rally more units in. I was finding that 0sh9sh8sh was a slightly too large stretch for my hand, and it was causing me to lose a lot of time, and cause slight hand pain.
