Many people have probably noticed that I've been recently doing a lot of 1-1-1 opening against Zerg in 2017, and I've seen a lot of compliments that they are really liking about this tactic. I was considering whether I should post in the early 2017, but it was not fully optimized(I used it against Hero in ASL Qualifiers Ro8) until now. I think I am ready to fully introduce about this opening since I've modernized it from the KeSPA Scene pro-matches TvZ 1-1-1 Opening!
There are 2 ways of going 1-1-1: 1) Factory Expansion 1-1-1 and 2) Starport Expansion 1-1-1. Both of them are quite great, but having two different styles. I prefer Factory Expansion 1-1-1 more because you don't want to lose your game lead by any kind of Zerg rush.
1) Factory Expansion 1-1-1 In general of Pro/Con
Pro: - Great amount of SCVs and income resource - Safety against any rush - Various ways of harassment
Con: - May lose a lot of lead by a small mistake - Letting zerg to win his gambling(almost no army units and massive amount of drones) - No scout army unit(If you have wasted your main army)
Build Order: + Show Spoiler +@9 Depot 11 Barracks 12 Refinery 16 Factory - Remove 2 SCVs from Refinery @Factory 100%, Add-on. 21 CC 22 Depot @Add-on 100%, Vulture Spider mine research 27~28 Starport
General Explanation: You should have total 2 Marines with 19 SCVs at Expansion timing(Included scouting SCV at Zerg). This is pretty much exactly the same as TvT Factory Expansion except making a vulture. Sometimes you will be making a vulture first before add-on, but that's only for against @Spawning Pool 100% 4++ Zergling rush. You should always get Spider Mine research(Textbook) first before Ion Thrusters research if you are not confident enough to stop Zerg's super early aggression.
vs 2 Hatchery Play Everything will be the same except making a valkyrie ASAP to counter Mutalisk style, and you will only make 4 Valkyries. If you have confirmed that Zerg is sending out an overlord of the path to see Spider Mines with Hydralisks, use 2 Marines and 4 Vultures to stop it. If the number is getting higher and higher, cancel Ion Thrusters and train more Marines, a Bunker with Siege Tank and Siege Mode. You will be still getting a Valkyrie and 2 Turrets each position(Main/Macro Building/Natural). The Armory and Engineering Bay timing are when your Starport passed ++50% done. When Ion Thrusters is done, try to go inside of Zerg's Natural or Main to kill some of Drones, and you will be seeing all 3 Zerg Eggs breathing at the same time(making Mutalisks).
vs 3 Hatchery Play Make sure you confirm Lair first, and let your scouting SCV die inside of Zerg's base. If Zerg goes for Hydralisk aggression, cancel Ion Thrusters and train more Marines, a Bunker with Siege Tank and Siege Mode. @Starport 100%, you will be making a wraith to kill Overlords that are close to your base or outside of Zerg's base. With 4 Vultures, you will be controlling the map and checking Zerg's base with your wraith with Follow up Dropship. While you are adding an add-on for Dropship, make the 2nd Refinery, Science Facility, and Engineering Bay.
For both of the build, Add 2 Barracks first, Engineering Bay Att+1, and then Academy. This will be pretty similar to Att+1 5 Barracks style, but you got a lot of Science Vessels with some Siege Tanks. It will be very similar to Old days 3 Barracks tech and then Att+1 MM, 3 Siege Tanks, and 1 Science Vessel timing(Hanbang Terran).
※Hanbang(한방): One Strong Punch in Korean.

Awesome, thanks for this post! Would love some reps

I found some reps from the [2017REP Played on ToSs[KaL], [road] and HwaSin] pack using this build + Show Spoiler + 2406 vs 3 hatch 3base(late lair) 2411 vs 3 hatch lair 2416 vs 2 hatch hydra 2423 vs 3 hatch lair 2424 vs 3 hatch lair(hydra) 2441 vs 3 hatch speedling->hydra 2442 vs 2 hatch muta 2457 vs 2 hatch muta 2461 vs 3 hatch muta 2463 vs 3 hatch muta 2464 vs 3 hatch muta 2465 vs 3 hatch lair 2469 vs 3 hatch lair
Those are the reps with Hwasin and Toss[kal] IDs. There are probably more with road, which i didn't check.
Also, as i was checking only fast gas TvZs, there are some 2 fact games (tank-vult push TvP style), quite fun stuff. Reps are 1815, 1816, 1932 and 2533(vs Hyuk!)

Newb question but what does 1-1-1 refer too?
|
It refers to StarCraft 2 and it means 1 barrack 1 factory and 1 starport before focusing production on more homogenous army.

Yes. Before SC2 came out, people called it 1 fact 1 port.

i wish we would still call it 1 fac 1 port.... because you can directly point to the different bo you are playing by saying 1 fac expo into 1 port or 1 fac 1 port into expo for example.
