A queen can infest Terran command centers and get out without dying multiple times.

So many times I see Zergs attack a Terran base, kill all the SCVs and leavea burning CC. Then the Terran just produces an SCV from that same CC to repair and continues operations.

Why not have a single queen to strike that final blow and get out?

Because it only works as a surprise tactic. All terran has to do to counter is lift the CC off earlier.

Versus mech play you get queens, so it happens more often. You'd have to predict you're going to get a CC below 750 health or always have a spare queen lying around (which could still be done if you really wanted to).

Wait how does lifting cc prevent queen from infesting?

He means lift it off before it goes down below 750 health.

Usually zerg does not have anything to shoot into air with, and you need to damage the cc quite a bit before you can infest. So yea infesting will work only if the terran doesnt notice the queen and he lets his cc take enough hits before lifting.

wonderful question, I've been wondering about that for something like ~13 years. I have played a LOT of zvt games where I won because of infesting a cc. And yeah, terrans normally don't bother repairing their ccs unless they are actually burning - there are times where I've been attacking a base, then I start noticing that I'll be able to bring the cc down to 750, then I start building a queen, and once I've gotten it below 750 I consciously stop attacking it because then the terran is less likely to actually repair it. Then I get pushed back, my queen finishes, and I just fly in and steal their cc. I have no idea how many command centers I've infested through my bw career, but a fair estimate would be 'hundreds', and a fair amount of those have been game-winning, quite a lot of them have happened a while after the battle was over.

Honestly, the best real answer I can give is that they just don't have it as part of their mindset because they don't consciously think about how they best can utilize the queen. Players, and especially on the pro level actually, tend to have such flawless, automated play that it's almost instinctual - they don't make in-game decisions due to careful deliberation (that would take much too long) but rather do the thing they have perfected over and over over thousands of games. Zergs have gotten by without needing queens for almost two decades, the only situations where they've ever become mainstream in any way are zvp vs corsair reaver and zvt vs mech (these are two situtations where you can argue that they are necessary rather than simply beneficial), and thus players simply don't think about building them as frequently as they should.

Fast, parasiting, can take a few hits. The opposite of needy, because you have to make the nest to get to hive anyway. Excellent scouting unit.

As a designer, if I'd had to make the queen a standard unit in a sensible but revolutionary way, I'd get the infested cc to produce creep.

Think about doom dopping the main and infesting the cc; an endless stream of hydra ling through the nydus canal into gg. Maybe in an expansion to bw HD. Sweet af, baby.

As a terran player this sounds pretty imba to me

if a terran isn't able to clear out his main by the time a nydus would finish, he'd probably die anyway.. (I get that you can have a couple lurkers under swarm or whatever that won't be cleared out for a while, but nydus isn't protected).

still though, that'd be cool! nydus in bw is pretty much exclusively a defensive structure, aside from the occasional zvz sneak-attack. (team game or ffa as 1v1 zvz never really gets to that stage)

A terran equivalent involving ghosts, maybe? The ability to permanently cloak cattlebruisers.

Also if an archon merges with a dark archon gets stasised and recalled, it creates a wormhole where units movement and attack speed slows down based on proximity to the invisible event horizon; even unit responses get stretched accordingly.

Time to look for Liquid`Drone replays I guess ; D Mid to late game vs mech is very hard for Zerg. Would be great to see it being incorporated more into the automation DNA strategy moves of the Zergs. I think it is considered an in game BM of sorts but that should not prevent anyone from using it.

You can now expect the actual guy to reply to your post. hf

I think the reason is that at least after the discovery of the muta stack bug, it's mainly because of turrets that litter around mineral lines.

I actually try to infest CCs too, which works because I incorporate hydralisks in my play. Especially now with late game mech play being the predominant strategy.
