I recently started playing some Mutalisk micro maps and would like to try the "H" attack method vs Marines. I searched TL.net for a guide and couldn't find anything helpful. I apologize if I missed any threads but the only reliable result I got was a post saying "to press "H" when the Mutalisks get in attack range and they'll fire". I tried this method a few times and it seemed a bit inconsistent as the Mutalisks had to get much closer than with right-click or A-move to attack.

Am I doing something wrong? Someone please correct me on this. Thanks.

To actually get the Mutalisk micro the same as online, just play Mutalisk micro at UDP or play at UDP, it always delays a bit or two.

I micro all the time on bnet with hold position just fine. You're going to take some hits but it's not like his units react any faster than yours do, just h-rightclick really quickly and the mutas will respond similarly to how they do on lan.

But in regards to your original post, if your mutas are being shot at by something like a rine or a turret and you try to use hold position, they'll freeze up unless you can hit what's attacking them. So if you're trying to use hold micro over an scv line make sure nothing is attacking you when you do.

What I've found to be working very nicely is you clump your mutas together, then you right klick on a marine/turret/whatever you want to kill and then when you are in range press hold and instantly move them away. It's for some reason been working better for me than just flying towards the marines and then hit hold.

When they stim that's true, else the spraying can be healed through by the medics. I don't know, muta micro is just something you need to get a feeling for, everyone has its own preferred technique.

Try right clicking a little past your target if possible before hitting 'h'. Mostly just practice and get into the rhythm/timing.

i would not recommend relying too heavily on the mutalisk micro maps, because computers actually can and will shoot down the most heavily-damaged mutalisk, making the micro much harder on you, forcing you to spend more time trying to harass, and averting your attention to the micro when you should be macroing, etc etc

it would be better to practice in-game because it helps you deal with the whole situation better imo

you didn't really get what he said. He said that instead of clicking in front of rines to form a straight line between muta and rines, you can right click on one of them and it automaticaly gets into the right angle and just before it should shoot, you hit "h" so it sprays.

Umm... No. All methods for Muta micro work just fine and at the same range. It shouldn't be that hard to learn how to Muta micro... I guess check the LP page or watch some FPVODs.

When you use hold position a few things are important.

-Make sure your mutas are directly facing the enemy unit they want to attack. If they are facing a medic/scv, but there are marines next to it, it won't target the medic/scv unless the marines are far enough away. If they aren't facing any units, they won't attack anything.

-If the terran approaches you with stimmed marines, you can't allow him to get too close. I find mutas usually will not fire if you were expecting them to be 4 range away and they have closed the gap to 2 range or so.

I use stop, baller status technique right there.
Instructions:
1) Get near your enemy
2) Press Stop
3) Back out
4) Repeat, works like a charm
WARNING: ENEMY MUST NOT BE ABLE TO ATTACK YOUR MUTALISKS!!

You need to practice to get ot know the maximum possible range mutas can attack from. That will take a lot of time and practice, and even watching VODs will help, but it will definitely help with using hold position.

I had absolutely horrible muta micro until about a week ago. I improved it greatly by playing about 20 match point zvts in a row doing 2 hatch muta every game. Its an awesome map to harass on and playing 2 hatch forces you to find ways to do damage with your mutas. Now I'm much more confident taking on clusters of turrets and groups of marines in the right situations.

I still prefer 3 hatch muta to 2 hatch, but without making myself play 2 hatch for awhile I probably would never have developed the confidence to commit my mutas to many hazardous situations.

O____O im sorry but i never use hold for mutals
im pretty sure "patrol" could work
but i manually click or "a" click on individual marines/units when i micro my mutals

and when i need to expand or something i just move my mutals out of firing range and just do what i need to do ..

But using patrol or clicking will cause the mutas to focus fire (especially in using patrol, if ur mutas direction is incorrect, it may screwed up your stack).. In a small group of mm if u wanna just kill it off with mutas, using H is the best as it literally sprays their atks, which may result u in killing at most 3rines in one shot.. I like to hover my thumb on the H cos i can easily just do 5sh and make my 4-6 lurkers, and building hatchery..
