Jaedong: "I will show everyone that there's no slump with a victory in this tournament." My winner's spirit is the driving force behind my victory!
-How do you feel about advancing to your second finals in a row? ▲There were many spectators in the audience for today's series, so my will to win was that much stronger. Although I lost in the Proleague Grand Finals, I wanted to show everyone that my skills are a level above [fantasy's abilities]. I practiced like never before for this series and since I won, my heart is bursting with joy. Now, I can look towards the Golden Mouse.
-It seems that you didn't have enough time to practice. ▲I couldn't prepare that much. I was exhausted after the Proleague was finished (last Saturday) and since I enjoyed the small respite, I didn't have enough time to practice fully. Also, I had to play against Calm in the Avalon MSL yesterday so I couldn't practice for this series like I normally would. However, my strategies were able to compensate for my lack of preparation. As I watched the VODs of my victory at the Batoo OSL (in the finals against fantasy) yesterday, I cultivated my desire for victory. Because of our heart-wrenching loss at the proleague finals, I felt a desire for revenge, for my teammates as well as for myself. I want to thank the players that helped me prepare, as well as my manager and my coach.
-Your losses at the proleague finals must have shocked you. ▲It was really hard for me in the days following those series. The memory of my losses kept me up at night. But the small encouragements I received were able to inspire me and so I was able to regain my strength. Also, my fans left me many messages at the fan websites and thanks to those, I was able to rise again.
-Your loss in the round of 4 of the Avalon MSL must have been distressing as well. ▲After I lost yesterday to Calm, I felt that he must have prepared very thoroughly. Even in the first game, I won simply because he made a mistake, not because I played well. I definitely wanted to win, but since I wasn't really ready for those games, I wouldn't have been happy even if I won.
-In Game 3, you went for a 4pool zergling rush build. ▲I saw many messages that seem to dismiss me and say that I've fallen off and I wanted to use a cheese rush. Since fantasy defeated me using a cheese rush (in the ace match of the proleague grand finals on Neo Medusa), I decided to reciprocate with my own cheese rush. I had planned to do a 4pool in game 3 if I won one of the first two games of this series.
-What were you thinking when he blocked your zergling rush? ▲I thought I would kill his 2nd marine as well and win handily, but it was somehow able to reach the bunker. Therefore, I felt that I was at a disadvantage, but I thought that I had one timing attack (hanbang) left. As the terran finished his sim-city (building placements), I just went for the timing attack. I think it worked well.
-You will face YellOw[ArnC] in the finals. ▲He is an opponent that I have faced my times in the past and I think that he has always been a very good player. Although I didn't expect to be facing him in the finals, I will prepare as much as necessary for this zerg vs zerg finals and play a series that will show all the doubters (laughs). Since YellOw[ArnC] hyung knows that I have something to prove, I hope that he will prepare accordingly so that we can have some fun games (laughs). Although it is a zerg vs zerg finals, I hope that many fans will come and enjoy our games.
-It seems that you definitely want the Golden Mouse. ▲Right before today's games, I thought that even if I don't win it this season, I still have a chance to win it next time. However, since I'm in the finals already, I will practice as carefully and thoroughly as I did for my first finals. I will definitely win this tournament and capture the Golden Mouse.
-What drives your consistently good performance? ▲My winner's spirit is what drives my performance. Since I hate to lose, I can focus on practicing with the final victory in mind and this allows me to keep going. Since I was the champion last season, the expectations are that much greater and I will concentrate on winning this next series.
-It seems that many players have finally grasped an understanding of your play. ▲I can almost feel their team's analysis of my play in my opponents' strategies. However, this is just another motivation for me to elevate my play to the next level. As they work hard to beat me, I must work even harder to become an even better player. Although I feel pressured sometimes, this pressure is what is pushing me to become the best. Working hard to become a perpetually strong player is very important to me.
-It's been said that you really dislike being called the successor to the Bonjwas. ▲If I look at all of the Bonjwa sunbae gamers that came before me, they all have impressive career records and were all very popular. However, I don't think that I have reached the height of my career yet. Rather than getting caught up in the Bonjwa arguments, I will just play my hardest until my retirement. I believe that the concept of the Bonjwa is just talk from an earlier period and I will just maintain my abilities until I reach my last days as a gamer.
-You've looked very tired recently. ▲Truthfully, I have been very tired lately. I want to get the finals over with quickly and just rest a little. I will be able to relax completely when September finally comes along.
-Do you have any last words? ▲I really wanted to have the winner's interview. Since I advanced and am able to give this interview, I am very happy. Although yesterday's loss (to Calm in the semi-finals of the Avalon MSL) was a disappointment, it's a relief to advance in this tournament. I want to thank all the people who have been worried about me lately. As I raise the Golden Mouse, I will show everyone that there is no slump. After the Proleague Grand Finals, there was a lot of talk on community sites that thoughtlessly criticize our team. Even though I lost in the ace match on the second day, my teammates were the ones that made the opportunity for an ace match possible. Also, without my teammates, I wouldn't be the player that I am today. I hope that people will stop calling Hwaseung OZ a one man team. Everyone has been working hard, it's just that the results didn't show our effort and I hope that everyone will anticipate our next season. Finally, I want to thank those players who stayed to help me practice (rather than going on vacation): ggaemo, Killer, HiyA and Lomo. I would also like to thank the players on other teams that helped me practice.
very nice interview, although who does Jaedong think he's kidding about Hwaseung not being a one-man team..
As long as he doesn't make any arrogant remark like the "Week of Jaedong" (seems like there is a curse going on that you make an arrogant remark=lose next couple of games)
However, I don't think that I have reached the height of my career yet.
LOL wut???????? 3000 isnt the highest,so he wanted 9000?????
thanks JD for 5 pts in Lbet[30+ rank now hehehe],i came back from my camp and quickly turn on the livestream watching JD win.Although i missed the first 2 games,i already knew JD is going for a reverse kill.
I don't know why, but Jaedong doesn't, in comparison to for instance Bisu, come off as arrogant when he exclaims ''I will definitely win this tournament and capture the Golden Mouse''.

probably because you don't like Bisu/or Bisu looks like the type to be arrogant

His looks might have something to do with it, yeah.

Bisu's got his bad boy look while JD's more "cute". So looks mosts likely.
LOL. How can you dislike JD? GJ JD. Your will to win is indeed your driving force! But i'm rooting for Yarnc on this one. JD is too young to have too much. LOL
Wow, sick interview. JD's whole personality coupled with his amazing play and resilience makes me really hope that he wins this OSL and gets what he deserves.
Hey, if I was JD I would be confident about winning the golden mouse too. It's a BO5 in a matchup that he has a 76% win record in and his opponent has a 50% win record in. Yeah, he lost to Calm, but you can bet that he'll be practicing 100x as hard for this one.

Have you missed all the times when Jaedong looks like he's about to kill someone? Of course, with his recent losses, it's started to fade a little but I'm sure it will be back full force when he dominates y[arnc].
I love this man, what a baller interview, one of the best I've read.
Jaedong you will get your golden mouse and prove to everybody who ever doubted you. (Including me since I have been rooting for Fantasy all the way, if he beats fake yellow, Im sold)
LEE-JAE-DONG LEE-JAE-DONG LEE-JAE-DONG, the girls where chanting your name today.

That's during the games. The photo that comes with the translations doesn't have any trace of murderous intent.
YESSSSSS. JD. I haven't loved an SC player as much as I do JD, ever. I'm glad he's recovered from his mini-slump. Now, I would call it a mini-slump even if JD hadn't lost 3-1 to Calm because considering the circumstances of that specific series--Calm is fucking good, he destroyed Effort, and he had very smart builds prepared against Jaedong; And JD had to prepare for the OSL series against FANTASY-- I don't think JD losing to calm like that necessarily reflects on JD that poorly.

Yeah, I thought JD would 5 pool at some point just because of his vengeful mindset, like he did against Skyhigh in WL finals. Still was scary as fuck when he did it though D:

GJ JD and ty for the translations
It was actually a 4pool, but I feel that it was totally justified, especially for revenge. Fantasy cheesed him right out of a proleague victory (although if I were him, I probably would have done the same thing).

To me it looked more like "i will show everyone that i am not slumping by giving my best use my full strength to get this golden mouse to shrug off any comments about my bad play" rather than "lol yarnc sux, golden mouse is mine 100%", so yeah - agreed

I know it was a 4 pool, I just thought he would 5 pool
"I will capture the golden mouse" Nice statement! I REALLY hope Jaedong wins this one. Yellow winning the OSL would put me on tilt more so than when Luxury stole Jangbis MSL.
Jaedong is my hero.. thanks for the awesome translation and after his Golden Mouse, JD can finally get some rest and with this interview all that Bonjwa bullcrap can stop too

I'm glad he's said that because I believed that to be the case. It would have taken a monstrous effort by Jaedong to beat Calm's preparation, luckily for him he didn't waste too much time. Calm's play in the series was nothing short of incredible. The flawless execution of the overgas vs overpool was especially impressive imo. I can't wait for the final now. The fact it's a ZvZ final doesn't really reduce the excitement for me.

Yeah, Calm was really ready, you could see it in every one of his plays, including the hidden 6 lings on carthage. It's hard to believe, but Jaedong was simply outclassed in zvz. However, he is in the finals of the more prestigious tournament and was able to get revenge for his proleague grand final loss, which is more important.
A little off-topic...Is it weird to think that Lux might not help Yellow practice for these finals? Somehow I get the feeling they won't practice together.

this. somehow i really really liked this whole interview. his determination and dedication is fucking impressive. if there is one player who really "lives being a progamer" instead of just taking it as his "job", its jaedong. i despise zerg and i dont like oz as a team... i have been pretty much neutral on jd as a personality so far, but this interview has changed my mind a bit... he deserves the golden mouse, if not for his impeccable skill and stunning endurance under an overloaded schedule, then he deserves it for sacrificing so much and working so hard for his goals.
he deserves the golden mouse and i have no doubt that he´s gonna take it. the osl final is the only thing to prepare for him now... and with enough preparation and no other events disturbing him, there is no way in the world that jd could lose a zvz bo5.
Jaedong better prepare hard for this. I think EVERYONE besides Jaedong's teammates and close friends/players will be helping Yarnc practice instead of JD. I mean, think about it from a progamer's perspective. Would you rather have Yarnc win an OSL or JD win a golden mouse?
Wow this interview whows how humble and good a guy JD is. He always defends his teammates. Even when he just won an osl semifinals, he uses the interview to defend them.
Also
Even in the first game, I won simply because he made a mistake, not because I played well.
He said about the calm games. I mean, he admits he only was lucky in that game. Man this guy is not even 20 and yet he is acting like he has been a true veteran champion.

You stoled my thoughts here. He is honest and humble even thought he is monster, just awesome.

... but info who he practiced from other teams is much more interesting. Name them! arggg
Sorry, he didn't name anyone specific from other teams. However, from what I recall from other interviews, progamers say that even if they get help from members of other teams, it's rarely more than a few games. If they mention their names at all, it's just to be polite rather than to really thank them.
love this interview. and thanks so much for the translation
after some thought, i kinda feel bad for fantasy. i mean, i dunno, but it prolly wasn't up to him to cheese or not in the SPL grand finals ace, but either way he has to be the face of it. i think fantasy said any terran on his team coulda done that build at that time. even so, it had to be him cuz it'd be suspicious otherwise.
