Would you have played qualifiers if it wasn't for the fear of judgement of others (and yourself)?
You don't have to answer, you've made the right decision in that moment, but do I believe you missed out even when it's likely you would have been beaten in the first round. I believe sometimes it's okay to go for the experience instead of obtaining the the highest possible result that strokes your ego and pleases your audience. Dewalt went, just like you he also risked losing face when losing again in the first round, but not to his real fans nor all of the people who would only know he played qualifiers if he had qualified.
Like you mentioned: people will talk shit, so let 'em talk. You could have said: "I was there." And maybe "I even won a game." Now you're saying: "I wasn't there, because I felt too afraid." + Show Spoiler +and you even made this video about it apologizing like a weakling. LMAO YOU !@#$ING LOSER /s
Good luck on your journey, may you get wiser and happier! And thanks for sharing it with all of us.

Nobody's really judging him. The BW community is just a handful of people on Twitch and YouTube and none of those who watch regularly play at a halfway decent level to have any idea of how difficult the task is. Those who do play at a halfway decent level respect his grind.
The guy's alone in a country where he doesn't speak the language and he's immersed 24/7 in an extremely hardcore video game, alone, without friends, with no one to really talk to... It's normal that his mental state is deteriorating.
Most of those judging him wouldn't last three days in his situation.
The guy is doing what he wants to do with his time and his life, the rest are doing what they were told they had to do, i respect that shit.
just a downswing, play tru it

vlog-kind videos now unavailable. He streams from his room, no longer from pc bang. He mentioned wanting to try a different approach, but I did not pick up the details. Perhaps he moved to a different apartment or city?

He briefely mentioned meeting with some of the starcraft people/foreigners living there outside his streams. Since he streams for ~4-6 hours a day there's a decent amount of time for unwinding away from the screen (it's a vacation after all)

What full picture? What wasted opportunity?
He became a top foreigner. He always dreamt of going to Korea and he went. He's sharing his experience with a community full of dudes who would have liked to excell in BW and go to Korea just like him.
If he had become an upstanding citizen with a master's degree and lame ass meaningless office job, sure, he could also have gone to Korea just as well. But then he would also have been just another nobody you would never hear of.

There's 4-5 completely different people inside of him and he's a total chameleon. At first I thought bipolar? Something else?
But no. He is just lazy and a con artist.
Who does he think he's fooling? Quite a few people, it would seem. I feel sorry for his mother who probably believed his "I'm working on a thesis for 5 years, I swear!" story. Jk mom I'm actually a closet hardcore starcraft streamer living a double life.
What a wasted opportunity for someone to go to Korea. 3-4 hours of practice a day is a joke. He gets a few donations then "goes out" at night. Of course the hard-working players are gonna eat him alive. Dewalt etc. and many koreans are raising their own families and they still run circles around him.
But after his little tantrums and some "lighthearted" bullying/abuse of a handful of (quite loyal, well-intentioned and good-natured) viewers, he's always able to play the victim and blame society or capitalism or his circumstances or whatever. After he mic-drops an eloquent dissertation explaining why it's all post-modernism's fault to his poor benighted viewers, he'll quickly revert to feigning ignorance and pretending he doesn't know any better.
Even if you donate or sub prepare to get bullied out of his stream. Did you ask a simple question? Maybe you're new to the game or community? Jokes on you! He'll throw you under the bus to make himself appear edgy and cool in front of the 5-10 viewers he's actually friends with. Try coming back later when they aren't around if you're expecting basic decency or to be treated with respect.
P.S. he hates money (or at least hates working for it...yeah no crap, you and everyone else on this planet, get in line man) but please buy him a gaming laptop (but not before he disparages you for working).
He doesnt seem to have any integrity at all. It makes me sick.
People can go as far as they want to in life acting this way. But sooner or later they get exactly what they deserve. It's really such a shame because he has so much potential.
why does it feel like you are describing your own fears and demons here?

Honestly, I think theres at least little missed opportunity not advertising himself as much to Koreans. His soop and YouTube stream titles could do a lot more to advertise/stand out that he is at least in korea (to koreans). There has been 0 effort to separate himself from his soop and yt stream titles from other foreigners there, for example, that Vietnamese s rank guy.
Also spon scene isnt what it was back in say 2016 or 2017. All the focus has really been diverted to proleague system and sc uni for while now, and just glancing at site like eloboard can tell you how less of activity/volume there is on spon side. So making more effort to stand out would have helped way more. Expecting a natural spon games cycle to spawn out is bit unrealistic without outside help, and titles would have at least attracted viewers
He also could have taken account of how much impact being in foreign country will have on him mentally. Unfamiliar environment and food is huge deal even for casual travellers and expecting to be on top shape and improving on top of that is huge ask.

I think the wasted opportunity is not even trying to attend the qualifier, which I think a lot of people had that expectation when he announced he was going to Korea. Even if he lost in the first round, I think the minimum was giving it a try. When else is he going to get an opportunity like this again?

I won't argue against any of those, also posted about it, but as I understand it: his main goal was going to Korea, playing LAN lat vs much a better pool of players and sniffing Korean culture and it's what he's doing.
I was simply showing the hater another perspective.
|
Oh he's sniffing alright.
|
Me the perspective I see is that he advertised to everyone that he is going to ASL qualifier "I love starcraft blablabla" getting plenty of support, and yet, did not participate to ASL qualifier lol. Wtf is this weak shit.

Not playing in the qualifiers is an odd choice. Yes, he would get destroyed, likely very early, but so do other foreigners and most Koreans who try, nobody other than people who hate him anyway would think less of him. Even familiarizing himself with the process might've been good for later. I don't know, I wish him the best, if he grinds like crazy and improves that's great, but he wasn't on the level of the top BSL/Chinese players to being with (who do participate in ASL qualifiers), so that's gonna be difficult.
|
I think Gypsy has shifted his focus after talking with some local english speaking pros. He is lacking theory and plays too much on intuition. Intuition is great but you got to follow the decision making flowcharts and have a deeper understanding to progress beyond a certain point. His mechanics are honestly already in a good enough place. Something as simple as zerg lair timing can already result in having to folllow 5 different decision making flowcharts. Saw him do some sub-optimal decision making in regards to lair timing in a few of his TvZs.

What a crazy thread Very entertaining.
Keep up the good work, guys
