Poor Air omg that's so brutal. Especially with like 6 hotties all flocked around Sea hanging on his every word. Chad gamer, but ooof feels bad man.

Nothing new, it's like the saying "You can't make a whistle out of every tree." I mean, no matter how much I train or like basketball and enjoy playing it, no amount of basketball training, best coaches, conditions and all, none of it will prevent LeBron James from crushing me 100% every game.

Hard work is pretty useless if the work, in this case the training, is inefficient and ineffective.

60 games a day doesn't sound like good training but blind grinding. Might be good to get perfect at a specific strategy, like right before an upcoming tournament (like Sea did, seemingly), but not as a general routine.
How much thought can you put into your game on top of that? Having good mechanics and execution is essential but at some point the rate of improvements at those will drop drastically, and getting 1 or 2 % better won't give you an edge anymore if everyone around you is at >95%, too.

Seems to say a lot about the coaching, too, which cannot be good if it allows for a player to wear himself out like that.

Generally I also think that talent (which most of the time is already a combination of nature and nurture up to a certain age) is really important for the hard work to be able to pay off.

Specifically in the present day with tons of research and case studies supporting the notion that Quality of practice > quantity of practice. A shorter practice block with a very high specificity(a focus on something very specific) has been proven to be the best way to improve. The more you increase the volume, the more diminished the returns are, but also the more exhausting it becomes for your mental and physical state. In addition non-active practice, things like visualization or studying data(replays and build orders, vods etc), is a great way to improve outside of your high specificity practice blocks.

Man this Ruby guy is seariously handsome and has great style. I'm 100% straight but he has the kind of face that Kim Ki Duk would cast in his movies.
Similarly how talent can beat practice, looks can beat effort.

From my personal experience playing more than 10-20 games a day greatly diminishes your ability and any games beyond that is pure exhaustion with bad performance. It's a bit hard to imagine 60 competitive 1v1 games in a single day, the majority of these i imagine the person is playing much below their potential. Maybe when you are young you can endure more i don't know, but 20 games is close to maximum capacity at a high level. That's my take at least. I admire Air's tenacity, usually this is a quality that can get you far in many areas in life, but pro Starcraft is a different beast to tame.

It does and it doesn't. Back then Sea's talent alone was enough to play at the level back then, because the meta was MUCH LESS refined and MUCH LESS optimized. Now with peak optimizations, refinements and such, even with a lot of practice, which he had in 2023 june-2024january, he didn't get close to being a top performer.

Now Soulkey and Rain on the other hand are prime examples of Talent + medium effort.

Rain hasn't cared enough anymore in well over a year now. No effort, let alone medium effort to be found there. Also don't forget Light 4-0 Rain, and a bit of a stretch but maybe also don't forget Jaedong 4-0 Rain.

Rain only won golds cuz:
1. He didn't meet Flash.
2. cuz of PvP (and Snow and Mini being chokers).
3. Light didn't know how to play TvP yet.
4. MPL wasn't a regular thing yet.

Rain really is overrated.

MPL is a regular thing since 2019 August.
ASL13 Rain beat Soma 4-2, Beat Soulkey 3-2, Beat Light in Ro16 2-1 and Royal 1-0 Ro24 was Action 1-0 and Bishop 1-0.

He bombed in Ro24s in ASL16 R(vs Calm & Soulkey) and 17(vs barracks & RoyaL).

To get a general idea on his performance extend the match history on his ELOBOARD. He's doing well when he's active, and does semi-well when he's not as active. Sea as a comparison didn't even do half as well.

Bugsy was 5 foot 3 and did well in the NBA. Sure natural talent and some genetic advantages can do somethings for you, but your dedication can make up for a lot more than people think. The difference largely being that lebron not only has a physical advantage, but he does practice a lot as well. So, no if you were bugsy you might get beat by him, but he beats everyone else as well too. But that doesn't mean you couldn't make a difference in other ways.
