Fantasy sadly won't play, but he's going to Saudi with Bisu. Flash - we need to wait if he shows up on challonge tomorrow as if he register he'd use a new ID not recognized by other pros.

Damn challonge this year doesn't show the players real name, so you can only identify them by Blizzard IDs which makes it harder to spot "anonymous gosus"

Group 1: (Soulkey 2 vs 0 (Scan 1 vs 2 Motive)) 2 vs 0 (Tyson 2 vs 0 Sea). Soulkey then beat Skey (ACS champion) 2-0 to advance. Group 2: (Rush 2 vs 0 Bale) 2 vs 1 (Noob 0 vs 2 Effort). Rush advances, Effort has to retry in day 2. Group 3: (Soma 2 vs 0 (Zelot 0 vs 2 Bishop)) 0 vs 2 (Piano 1 vs 2 ivOry). We'ivOry (aka In Ji Ho) advances in the biggest surprise in ASL qualifiers in recent memory.. - 1st upset in group 3: Ssak eliminated by an amateur Zerg - 2nd upset in group 3: Piano then eliminated by that same Zerg (We`ivOry) - 3rd upset: that guy knocked Soma out as well to complete his incredible run. Group 4: (Royal 2 vs 0 Pusan) 2 vs 0 (Beast 2 vs 0 Shine). Royal advances.

![]() ![]() ![]() Soulkey, Royal, Jaedong and Snow just cruised through their groups. Rush and Action unlucky to get Effort and Rain in their group, and had to fight hard in 3 games to beat them. Slight scare for Light, Bisu, Queen and Mini but in the end the clear favorites got through. Stork Shuttle and Free fought each other in a PvP slug fest with no clear favorite. Stork got chosen. IvOry had probably the greatest underdog run in ASL qualifier, defeating Ssak, Piano and Soma to get himself his first ASL appearance. He's a ~2500 mmr Zerg born in 1996, was previously put in Joker tier in the Korean SC university system (the tier where the likes of Britney and Terror belong to)

Ruin must have been really stressed to let Calm of all people ling-flood him twice, also a bummer. Having Ample instead of Barracks feels strange. A newcomer like Ivory is always a nice surprise.and of course with Rain, Sea and Effort we're in for a show. Still feels like a Protoss season somehow which is good to me.

It seems like the ASL pts accumulated by a player does not disappear over time, or the counting period is very long, unlike in other sports where it's only counted for the last few years. In Sea's group, Horang2 is the top seed since he played many ASLs before with decent results. If you look up the other groups, it's hard to find a player with better coefficient than him. So maybe we can make a case for Sea to be deliberately put in the group with the weakest (inactive) seed, but it could also be totally his luck.

On the other hand having Rain and Effort is absolutely amazing! Gonna be a sick season for sure. Sea being back after such a long time is also awesome to see, his finals vs flash was some great tvt, esp the battlecruiser game. Crazy how stacked these qualifiers still are after all those years. Could start ASL with a Ro64 and still have an amazing lineup of players.

Ivory, Leta, Calm and Sea seem to be the weakest four players based on online performance over the past year. Actually got nothing to base Ivory's online performance on because he's that much of an unexpected "low tier" qualifier that I can't find any data anywhere... Ample, Free, Killer seem to be the next in line skill wise followed by Stork, Mong, Sharp and Shuttle. After that most players are all very close in skill to each other until you get to Snow who has been extremely dominant in online play. But Online is different from on stage. At this point in time Snow seems to be favored along with Light and Soma, Maybe HerO. But as last season showed anything can happen.

It is a very narrow gap. | ||

Besides that every time there was a PvZ finals the zerg won. And honestly it feels like those 1st 2 don't even count since meta and map design was sooo different back then lol.

This time the number of pros involved is less than the last time (when almost everyone was involved), but we don't know if more will join later. For anyone curious, here are the list of current university/academy/club (whatever it's called): - UKKZ, lead by Leta - CSWU, lead by Calm & Action, with Effort, 815, Hyun, Miso (Cadenzie is here too) - JSA, with Shuttle, Ruin, Killer, Ample - BSU, with GoRush, Shine, Sharp, Free, Pusan - NZU, with Ssak, Shinee - GSU, with Piano, Motive, Beast, Zelot, Bishop - DP, lead by Best, Hyuk and Royal - YB, lead by Sea, with Rush, ggaemo, Stork, Scan, Tossgirl - CGU, lead by Terror, with Soma, Mong - LC, lead by Rain, with Soulkey & Tyson ... and there are also a couple more with less known players If you look at it, the top pros (like Major Proleague players) are not as involved as the last time, except for a few. They are earning more than enough via streaming and proleague. But this model largely benefits the mid to low tier pros in that now they can participate in team events and coaching and increase their popularity, all of which leads to higher incomes. Guys like Rain, Calm, Sea, Terror and Shuttle are key in this movement as they are both ex-pros and very popular variety streamer. Their involvement alone have helped bringing hunder of thousands of dollar into the scene (and their pocket as well :D)

Or more of just a sort of "for fun" streaming event thing? I think the main goals are just to create streaming content and have fun, while also maintain/increase BW popularity in Korea. Of course money is an incentive as well. You do have new generation of players "training" in these universities though, like Skey the current ACS champion. But without the crazy training regime enforced during Kespa, it's largely their own effort to improve, still. But at least with this university scene, they earn money playing BW, compared to the past when it was really hard for non top pros.

Dear gentlemen progamers. Please. show some new options for build orders. I understand that good money is at stake as a prize and there is no time for experiments, you need to use tactics that have been proven over the years. But still. We all love this game for its variety, which has been lacking lately. Thx

A: Soma (Z) - Mong (T) ----- (Yeah I think Mong is gonna cause an upset and top Mini in that group) B: Soulkey (Z) - Rain (P) C: Snow (P) - Royal (T) D: Light (T) - Action (Z) E: Queen (Z) - Sharp (T) F: Rush (T) - Bisu (P) ----- (hard to pick here between Bisu & Stork -- I'll go with Bisu though)

The way he beat Soma in the qualifier during day 1 was quite impressive (esp game 2 where he just literally stomped him out).

A: Mini / Soma - Mong much inferior to the favorites but good enough to pull off a bo1 upset, Mong's weak bio might make Soma the tougher matchup B: Soulkey / Rain - I can actually see Calm pulling of the ZvZ upset vs Soulkey but besides that Soulkey and Rain are heavily favored in a soft group C: Snow / Royal - soft group for the favorites D: Light / Action - group of death but Light should be favored against the Zergs and a relatively weak P in Free. Action edges out Effort (but I am rooting for Effort) E: Queen / JD - I generally root for Sharp but he has shown nothing for several ASLs in a row. Sharp's TvZ is his worst matchup and his once great TvT has been underwhelming in recent times. Clear case of putting strongest tier 3 w the weakest tier 2 F: Rush / Bisu - Rush gets an "easier" group than Light, but has to face 2 formidable Protoss that can take him out in a bo1. Ivory should be fodder

That's why I support these players: Jaedong, Best, Bisu, SoulKey, Action. I think these legendary players deserve to play at least in the final. It's even surprising that none of them played in the final in 15 ASL seasons. Therefore, I am for this 5.

Mong can upset if he's in peak condition but seems unlikely. B: Rain/Soulkey >>> Calm/Sea. Big gap between top 2 and bottom 2. Pretty much set in stone. C: Snow > RoyaL > Shuttle > Killer. Snow and Royal seems guaranteed but both Killer and Shuttle are capable of upsetting this group. Weird group that will have upsets but based on statistics Snow and Royal should roll this. D: Light > Action/Effort > Free. Light seems favored but Action and Effort have the potential to take Light out. Free seems shaky in his consistency. Good form Free can upset either Action or Effort, but he's clearly the weakest in this group. Group of death? E: Queen/Jaedong > Sharp > Ample. Last season, Ample was with Soma, Mind and Best(who went to semi-finals and finals) which was in hindsight arguably the strongest group in ASL15. Ample upset Soma and he's capable of upsetting either Queen or Jaedong with TvZ being his best. I don't see Ample upsetting Sharp however. Sharp seems stronger in TvT. Sharp is capable of taking Jaedong or Queen if he doesn't choke. I am calling this group for upsets. D: Bisu/Rush >> Stork >> Ivory. Saw some sponmatches with Ivory and he doesn't seem to be on he same level. He has good early all in play but Bisu and Rush are both strong against that. There's potential for Ivory to upset stork, but neither Stork or Ivory can take on Bisu or Rush.

Bisu is in general the better player (much better) compared to Stork. But in PvP I feel like you can't say anything unless it's Best playing. The skill gap between players seem to be blurred the most in PvP among all match-ups, if you know what I mean. For example if you compare Bisu's PvT and PvZ to someone like Shuttle, it's day and night, but if you look at the head to head record, Bisu only won 2 out of 3 times vs Shuttle, which means in a BO1 Shuttle can eliminate Bisu quite easily. Same for Stork.

- I cannot believe that, in 2023, people still believe in Sharp. Hes on pace to reach the Movie tier quite soon. Group A is definately the funniest group. Fun players, and everyone has a shot to advance. I am quite impressed about Leta lately. I dont count him out. Also, poor shuttle. RO16 has to wait again, it looks like. .

More than good -- he did amazing. He literally treated Soma as if he was his children. If you guys haven't seen the games I suggest you do. It wasn't even close. It's a shame we know so little about him going into ASL because I would love to know how he fare against T-P.. Seeing fresh bloods in ASL is always a good thing.

By the way, after the qualifier ivory earned himself a series of games with the big names, but he lost all of them: 0-4 to Royal, 0-1 to Snow, 0-2 to Sharp, 0-2 to Shuttle, even 0-2 to Sea. Maybe he was just playing out of his mind on qualifier day.

Mini's form has dipped real fast since June. Despite being the top 3 player in Proleague for the first half of the year, he was only 50% in July and now in August currently sitting at 33% win rate. He just lost to Barracks today as well. Mini vs Mong could certainly go either way.

I was trying to recall what he was like earlier on in his career. I think the financial success kind of took the edge of his competitive spirit and he's just happy to be around for his fans. Makes me appreciate Flash and Jaedong even more. Those guys were set awhile back but whenever they play they're still eager to destroy their opponents. Bisu and Rain give me the opposite vibes.
