Just a few hours ago I already wrote an angry email to WCG Netherlands because they dropped real competitive games like Starcraft and Counter Strike because of pressure from EA and Microsoft. On their site they admit that EA and Microsoft force WCG on national and international levels to include C&C3 and Gears of War. Also, they say on their site that S-Korea ruins competition because they win every time because of Starcraft, Warcraft and 'that crazy golf game'. What kind of biased shit is that? they make themselves out to be like the e sports gaming olympics. You don't see the real olympics cutting out basketball because Americans dominate them, etc.

Also, they say on their site that S-Korea ruins competition because they win every time because of Starcraft, Warcraft and 'that crazy golf game'. Ruins competition? This maybe a stretch, but let me try: ex. Tracks: Blacks dominate the sprint events, thus, do they ruin the competition? ex. Tennis: Roger Federer dominates the men's tennis, does he ruin the competition? ex Historically, USA and Russia(USSR), dominated the olympics. Did these two countries' dominance ruined the competition? I don't think so, if anything, it enhanced it. Tell that Netherland site to shove it and reinstate Starcraft into their WCG competition.

Not entirely true, I think Kespa and other Korean starcraft community ultimately would like to expand into the golbal market. It might be possible to get some funding from Korean side if one can talk to the right channel/people.

Look at China and South Korea. Their games are cast the same as mainstream sporting events. Whether it's a caused of the popularity of e-sports in their countries or a result of it, the high quality commentary is there because e-sports is taken far more seriously in those countries than it is in the US, and realy the rest of the world. If WCG can't do it they can't do it, but I would hope they took the decision to only send Tasteless to one event seriously. Tasteless's commentary has been directly responsible for generating interest in the events he casts. You would hope WCG had a damned good reason for turning down the publicity and credibility he adds to their events. As for the general hate towards WCG, don't get too carried away. Even though they sometimes drop the ball they manage to host what right now is the de facto Olympics of video gaming. Plus the various local organizations seem to be dealing with budget cuts. What goes on behind the scenes of WCG seems to be almost completely unknown, which doesn't help when trying to make judgment calls on how they run their events. Not to say WCG hasn't completely dropped the ball in the past. I have nothing against Whacksteven but he simply wasn't qualified to cast StarCraft games. A few years ago they decided that local WCG's couldn't send unsponsored players. All this managed to do was allow less people to go and thus dull the excitement. The players who could pay their own way were no longer able to attend. WCG gained no legitimacy or increased ability to do business. At best it was an ill-conceived attempt to help its players, at worst it was WCG trying to act bigger than it was, with negative results. Plus, this is really disappointing: On September 01 2007 08:24 BlackStar wrote: OMG, WCG failing again... Also, they say on their site that S-Korea ruins competition because they win every time because of Starcraft, Warcraft and 'that crazy golf game'. I'll admit straight up that following professional StarCraft for like four years has made me biased. But WCG can't forget the fact that without StarCraft, no one gives a shit about them. They could try to establish a business model that doesn't rely on StarCraft, but then they would be betting their chips on games that either don't have a strong player base, or games that are better handled by other competitive gaming organizations. It doesn't matter that it's mostly contained to South Korea, StarCraft is the biggest competitive video game in the world; so much so that it's legitimately become a part of the country's pop culture. StarCraft's relatively lesser popularity in America and Europe does not change this. WCG could be short sighted and allow EA and Microsoft to influence their game selection. Or, they could make the correct decision; use their monopoly on international competition for the biggest competitive game in the world to build a true Olmypics for competitive gaming. Just because I'm sure this will come up, or at very least it's relevant: using the coming of StarCraft 2 to justify lesser attention to Brood War is a mistake. StarCraft 2 will be popular because Brood War is popular. The less popular WCG allows Brood War to be, the less they will stand to gain when SC2 comes out. Unless of course, they want to make building a brand for that game's competition unnecessarily resource consuming. I like how I went to "don't get too carried away" to writing three paragraphs on things WCG isn't good at. I guess I felt like venting. On the other hand I didn't talk about how we should "boycott" their "shitty" events. Because we all know that's the best way to make companies care about what you have to say.

I'm not sure why this isn't being more actively considered. The only thing I can think of is that right now people getting the WCG to make things right and take action is the primary concern. Which isn't a bad thing but at some point, getting Tasteless to WCG USA is most important.
