oh well it's a good time to go to the military too I guess, since he's proven himself and he's now injured. Hopefully he gets to recover and destroy everyone as random.

He was supposed to be exempt due to his injuries and the gigantic scar on his arm.
At least that was what was always written here on TL. Stork due to insomnia (sorry spelling), Flash due to injury and rain due to being a liver donor were exempt from military.
At least the flash part is confirmed not being true :/
1. why is terran getting weaker as time goes on there isn't even patch like SC2 but why is Terran so bad state now?
2. Terrans nowadays get destroyed by 3h macro games
3. why do you guys think Terran struggles so much nowadays?
There's obvious faults such as lack of optimization and new ideas as race but it seems like other 2 races have brought their skills up while Terrans remained untouched...
4. Terrans have such hard time nowadays best and goozila came over so that may be fault but as games go on, terrans get owned by arbitors and when they try timing attack, they just get destroyed by protoss micro... bad times...
5. I think Bisu compeltely figured PvT out Think its almost impossible for Terrans to beat Bisu nowadays...
6. If everything goes perfect, I think zerg is the best race now Even mass queen is favorable for zerg, and there isn't real solution for Terrans lategame...
7. This is why people miss FlaSh so much They want to see a Terran just beat protoss...
8. Think even when FlaSh come over, Bisu will never lose Bisu's PvT is pretty much impossible to beat in CB...
9. Terrans have figured the game out way too long ago Now there is no more new builds to introduce and we just use old builds now since there is nothing else more to do...
10. These idiots will never progress as race even when they practice sea/last/mind , people like these who just copy builds have noone to follow at all
11. opinion on TvP gameplay and overall direction of game I think Terran have reached its end of builds evolution long ago and nowadays, PvT is impossible to lose for Protoss I dont think there is any more build orders to be discovered
12. isn't it amazing zergs and protoss have new ideas and builds but Terran don't? Will this ever change if flash/fantasy comes over?
13. Current Afreeca climate is Terran graveyard I can't watch Terran lose on spongames anymore...if map's CB, its autolose for Terrans.

Breaking news: Tensions have escalated along the 45th Parrallel as the North Korean government accuses the South of massive arms escalation along the DMZ. Reporting that the South Korean government has deployed the "Ultimate Weapon" along the DMZ.
So far the South Korean government has not been able to be reached for comment, but independent reports show that South Korean soldier morale is at all time high.

If the US still had a mandatory draft I'd feel the same way. If I have to go, you have to go, if you get to skip out for some lame reason I'd be upset about it.

Think about it from the militarys perspective, if someone is a pro athelete or whatever, skipping one year of training could ruin the rest of their career, and from armys perspective they are just 1 more person, people are a resource to the military and if one has a good reason to not do it its acceptable.

Doing military service doesn't mean you have to be a frontline soldier, there are other jobs you can do. A Korean friend of mine I worked with for a year in the US said he did his South Korean military service in the mess hall, which explained why he was so fast in the kitchen.
Just because you have to go doesn't mean everyone gets the same job. That's not how it works.
AND besides the reason there's a mandatory draft in the first place is because they are in a state of war with the North and if the North invaded EVERY man of military age would be called to fight anyway, the ones doing their military service now are just the ones that would be deployed first so it doesn't make a difference what shape someone is in going into the service they'd be conscripted anyway.
And to the guy above you, I know how conscripted armies work, don't think I'm ignorant just because my country doesn't have an active draft. I had to sign up for mandatory selective service when I turned 18 just like everyone else did just IN CASE we put in a draft tomorrow. And South Korea is in a very different situation than the US is, where they could be actively invaded at any time (not realistically but still) so there is a very different view of the military over there than there is over here.

I don't have to live there to understand that.
yes just like plenty of people you hold a archaic view of what "national service" entails. one doesnt have to be a soldier or a mess cook, an athlete or competitor representing his country in an international tournament and achiveing results is effectively up holding the pride and prestige of their country in a different way. its also a better allocation of their talent than forcing them to be a cook or even a lieutenant which any randomo can do. theres insane amount of hard work and strategizing to just be competitive in their respective fields way more than an average soldier will ever experience or comprehend. SK knows that and they do grant exemptions to exceptional olympic talent unlike what you imply or wish for. only thing i smell is your tall poppy syndrome.

You are completely missing the point of South Korea's mandatory military service policy. It has nothing to do with national pride, the country is LITERALLY in a state of war with the North. People are conscripted for mandatory military service so that South Korea maintains at all times an active military force ready to be deployed at any moment.
Being a cook in the army maintains the army. It allows the men that are soldiers to be ready to fight at top condition at a moment's notice if they are needed.
Being an athlete is not the same thing, it has nothing to do with the logistics of the military. You can represent your country sure, but that's not what mandatory military service is.
You're trying to impart ideals of what "service" means on a country that is in a different situation than you are. I'm not. I'm putting myself in the shoes of someone living in Korea as it is now, not the way you think it should be.

On April 15 2021 20:01 BonitiilloO wrote: why do people needs to do military service in korea?
Because they are actually threatened by NK, so they need a somewhat large army and people they can draft in case of war.
Like NK would need to be insane to attack SK, but Kim kinda fits the bill. And NK has a large standing army and hostile diplomacy.
Not quite sure NK would be insane for attacking SK. The USA is weaker than China in the region and most recent war models show that we would lose every war in the Pacific and in Asia against China. If China backs NK, then they wouldn't be insane, they would win. It would probably kick off WW3 though, so I don't see it happening as it wouldn't be worth it for China or the US.
Here's to hoping Flash gets healthy and comes back stronger than ever, my fav BW player by far.
I despise conscription with all my heart, seriously.
I live on a country with it and to this day I still wonder what someone like me would help on a war, my rage for being forced to do this shit would make me do everything in my power to avoid it even living on forests until the invading army give more trouble to people pursuing me to fight and they leave me alone.

One good thing about it is that it shifts public opinion toward an anti-war stance. In my country, anti-war attitudes have lessened steadily after removal of the draft.

Indeed, it’s quite remarkable if you go back to WW2 and how many people who became notable, or indeed relatives of people who were already notable served there, and died.
I can’t remember specific individuals but sons of Prime Ministers and Presidents lost their lives in that conflict. Makes one less liable to push one’s country into war if it’s your kids on the line.
Wasn’t that long ago in the greater scheme of things either, nowadays the idea of the privileged and connected, outside of military careerists being ever sent to harm’s way seems laughable.

Flash has been playing brood war competitively since basically the dawn of its existence. I am amazed it took this long until he was finally dragged into service. (Not saying I would want to go if I were him)
Maybe videogames aren't important enough to warrant it, but there are plenty of ways for citizens to contribute that are more valuable than joining the armed forces. Even in wartime, most of the economy is not directly related to the military. There is no reason to obsess over enlisting.

It’s pretty sweet in Norway. You learn to grow up and take responsibility for yourself and you have lots of opportunities to take courses and get paid education. It’s also considered to be one of the best ways to get leadership education, fireman, police officer or paramedic training amongst other things.

you can do all of that without conscription. and not everyone is interested in military/civil careers. norway conscription looks entirely optional unlike korea. imagine if the likes of magnus carlsen have to take even a year off during his pivotal development period to do conscription, he will never be where he is today

There is one year of compulsory military service in norway. You can’t always get that education other places. At least not fireman education and it’s almost a requirement to finish your year in order to get into the police academy.

simple truth, theres nothing interesting or exciting about conscription except for peeps who are interested in them in the first place. people who have went through it just gives positive justification/s to give themselves a peace of mind. when if given an actual choice obviously most of them would not want to go through it at all.
also obviously easy to mouth off if you are not part of any conscription country. smart boy aint you.
I think the idea of conscription is good, I know that it's a merit that sadly not everyone in my country will experience. Waking up on time, working as a part of a unit (regardless of if you're in the field, in the administration, working the kitchen, janitorial services, whatever) you learn fundamental things about yourself and life overall that's solid.
The conscription age here in Sweden is 18-20 though, which means you get a paid job attending civil education for a year after high school. It's vastly different than going when you're 29.

i dont know what conscription is like in other countries that have it, but in korea there is almost no benefit to going to the military from a personal standpoint. the best way you could spin it is like some have pointed out; living through a structured, highly disciplined lifestyle thats will give you a tough experience in various ways that you wont find in normal life. whether this experience is worth sacrificing what was normally 2 years of your life? 99% of korean men would disagree. you dont get any formal education during your time in the military that can typically be put to use in the normal world. you get paid money no different to what you would make working part time in society. you dont get any perks after youve been discharged either. youre back in society exactly where you left off, except youre 2 years older. youve literally just given 2 years of your life for the service of the country with no material benefit for yourself. only if you want to have a military career does those 2 years amount to anything meaningful. if you look at conscription from a wider perspective however, the benefit of having a large army that doesnt have a war they have to be at is the country can mobilise the soldiers for public service reasons. a low cost, highly efficient workforce that can assist with any government task is very handy and i personally think this benefit is very underrated. korea has exploited this many times and if conscription is no longer a thing the loss of this benefit is something that makes me sad. tbh its probably the second biggest reason why the korean government wont remove conscription. if you look at the likelihood of warfare commencing with north korea again, you could even argue that its the biggest reason.

the only reason to go to the military that makes some sense is the fact that they teach you how to manage weapons, that is kinda useful in the case of a revolution, other than that, mandatory military is non sense to freedom.

Can't agree more, fuck military. That shit ruined my early 20s cause I spent my time hiding like a rat and couldn't enjoy the life because constantly lived with fear that eventually I need to do that. Luckily I skipped it, this summer's birthday is the time when my age will be too high so they can't force me to go and do that useless piece of shit.
dude thats amazing, im srsly happy for you, theres nothing worse in life than doing shit u're forced to.
the only reason to go to the military that makes some sense is the fact that they teach you how to manage weapons, that is kinda useful in the case of a revolution, other than that, mandatory military is non sense to freedom.
