Zerg AI scripts not working

I did a quick search and came up empty...

I make a few maps every now and then, recently adapting 8-player maps for 2-player ensuring they start next to each other. This requires "use map settings" and triggers to set the 6 computer opponents working.

On most maps, it all works fine.
On some maps, the Zerg build an extra Hatchery and occasionally a Spawning Pool, but nothing more.
How can this be avoided?

I'm simply using the "Expansion Custom Level" AI script, so that they use Brood War units and treat the map as if it's melee.

Have you tested other AI Scripts and checked if they build more stuff?

I have had a hard time with AI scripts working correctly. Seems as one or two always glitch out and don't do anything

I sensed this behavior on some maps as well. Have you tried running same map on 1.16.1 ver. to make sure it has nothing to do with recent patches?

All other races seem to work fine (Terran/Protoss Expansion Custom Level).

Seems to happen with Zerg only, even on maps set to "Melee". I've done a number of 1v7s and there's often a Zerg force that does very little.

I sensed this behavior on some maps as well. Have you tried running same map on 1.16.1 ver. to make sure it has nothing to do with recent patches?

I haven't actually... I'll give it a try this weekend.

I meant other Zerg AI Scripts. There are a multitude of them after all.

iirc the insane ais are good and what everyone used to use. I believe choosing expansion makes it specifically behave like an expo? I don't know, it has been a long time. If the ais don't really attack you probably have it wrong for all of them, not just zerg, even if they seem to make more stuff. I guess real AI in a melee game might be different, or selected randomly? Except for their big first push SC1 ai is pretty bad without mods. All the good maps that were like this had to add extra stuff to make it challenging the whole way, like just creating units out of thin air and telling them to attack the players.

"Expansion" means it uses the Brood War units, not that the town itself is an expansion.
Yes, it really is just the Zerg. I have the exact same AI scripts running for the Terran and Protoss forces, and they work fine, just like a Melee map.
(The reason I know this is because I've been making some 2v6 (human v comp) maps to play with a friend, and the enemy are 2 Zerg, 2 Terran and 2 Protoss. Sometimes I put the same races together on the map, so there's a Terran corner, a Protoss corner and a Zerg corner (in these situations, usually at least one Zerg force works okay), and sometimes I mix them up (and then I'm lucky if a Zerg force works properly).

And it's not just with triggered maps: a 1v7 melee map, with all computers set to random, will often have a Zerg force that does nothing or very little. Give it a try on BGH or something, and you'll see for yourself.

I only joined this forum to say that I have encountered this bug WAY before Remastered. Even before 1.15.
