I've tried the latest ones and I can't beat that Locutus Protoss bot. I used to beat every bot (2 years ago) and now for the life of me I can't. Here's the easiest method to play the bots. All you need are 3 things:
Bots have .dll files and bwapi versions for each. Just store them in a folder you can easily access any time and name it accordingly. Also inclued pionting those java or other files if their BWAPI or bot files come with one (somehow it becomes a config file accdg to the droplauncher dialogue)
Launch droplauncher, go to settings to point starcraft.exe, then select bot files by pointing to BOTH bot.dll and bwapi files so that it matches for each bot each time you try different ones.
Then launch starcraft exe and select UDP, create a melee game and leave that window first, go back to the droplauncher menu where it will say join game and it will initialize some stuff but once you do things right you'll see that in your game the bot has joined it.
Play and get owned (if you're a D 2009 iccup player). So far the Locutus bot has 12 nex'ed and 2gate proxied me with great micro. You can probably get away with some cheese build but what's the fun in that? The AI attacks your structures and takes advantage of range when it can which is awesome. It will also force paths and not just act stupid to attacks, kind of like "right clicking" towards your unit instead of just stupidly getting hit over and over. I also tried 14cc hard turtling and it had like 7 bases in a 12 minute game, it also created a ton of gateways in one other game. All in all great stuff for low level players
I hope you enjoy playing this as much as I have so far.
I never tried playing BW bots because the setup guides were too complex. This method seems easy. Will give this a shot tonight and see how well I can shake the toss
Thanks for the links!
edit: played vs PurpleWave and got absolutely WRECKED
One more important thing to note is that you should disable avast, windows defender or any other anti-virus type software running since it doesn't like java too much and will quarantine files and give you an i/o error. If you do decide to redo everything delete the entire installation of starcraft/droplauncher and start with a clean slate since those anti-virus progs have already deleted everything.
Weird, I did everything you said, the bot seemed to work and game launched without errors. When I scouted his base, he didnt even send his probes to mine. What's even more weird is that when I attack its probes they fight back. I tried using the AI mappool and switching races, didn't work. Maybe I did something wrong or something is outdated or bugged.
You HAVE to download the accompanying BWAPI files (versions of the BWAPI its usually between 4.12, 4.20, 4.40 You see they have different builds of the bot accdg to what API they used so without that accompanying file that comes with the bot in the download section the AI cannot launch. It is located underneath the bot dll file in the download secion of that SCAI website - it seems redundant to keep including BWAPI files but it's really better so that you don't mix them up and get no AI running because you have the wrong BWAPI version. what i do is put them in a folder together for each bot to not be confused.
This is why you see a BWAPI.dll file for each bot.dll file you download, sometimes there's even a json file or it looks like and exe and not a .dll file. include everything when pointing droplauncher since it automates everything to make it run. I hope that clarifies things, it'll work for sure and I've been getting owned since last night not winning ONE game off these shits lol.
Alright so it seems like for some reason Locutus does not work for me. I've tried doing everything all over and still didnt act in the game. So I proceeeded to challenge the second best protoss AI "PurpleWave" and let me tell you, this time it worked, and I've never seen an AI like this before...
I have never seen such surgical precision micro in my life. The first few games he rushed straight into carriers. I strongly believe it is impossible to kill his carrier army with goliaths head on. The moment you get into range to be able to shoot a carrier, he pulls that one back while the others kill all your goliaths. He does the same with Dragoons early game, which makes it really hard to scout what he's doing. One game he went arbiters and I couldnt even touch them. he showed up with like 3 arbiters at my door at minute 10. It's insane.
I've tried everything, CC first into turtle to 3/3, 3 fact marine tank push with mines(to kill him before critical carrier mass), mass marine/medic (went very bad, he has insane dragoon micro). After like 10 games, I almost gave up, but the last game on Tau Cross I somehow managed to kill a lot of probes with vultures while turtling to 3/3 goliaths. I think I killed enough probes and interceptors that he ran out of steam. It was very lucky from my part I think.
I also wasn't used to the 1.16.1 client anymore after playing remaster. The scuffed sensitivity and original keybinding really made it a lot harder for me so I did a lot of mistakes. I basically played without any specific build order or strategy I just tried to build as many units as possible while trying to withstand the carrier onslaught.
I have recordeded that last game if you are interested in watching it on youtube.
locutus will work. you should also include the bot file that has a ".json" extension to it when droplauncher asks you to import bot files. Some bots are different, tsmoor (random bot) has an .exe instead of a .dll bot file, so you just import that instead. Droplauncher makes things sooo much easier now since you just import whatever file there is (including it's BWAPi version file). Set the race and wait till it initializes and see the final prompt being "set race to x" then you can launch your game.
Antivirus and Windows Defender doesn't like Java files so it could have quarantined it the first go you had at installing everything. Do a clean install and disable antivirus or windows defender proggys (it's the only way to make it work)
I've beaten Locutus and Tscmoor but honestly I "cheated" by gaming their patterns and turtling very hard almost to idiocy and let the minerals run out lol. I will never beat these bots in a straight up game that's for sure and this is good practice. If Locutus even uses templars or simply just attacking early with its scout i dont think every game will last for me haha
I have problems running any bots with the drop launcher. I disabled antivirus, reinstaled the free 1.16.1 lite version, tryed portfowarding and enabling upnp
I get the same error every time after i drag all the 2 bot files or 3 if has config file and press start while SC is running a hosted upd game on backround. Melee game on astral balance selected and correct race for bot also.

AccessDeniedException in the first line should give the required hint. WindowsFileSystemProvider.createDirectory implies that the software tries to create a sub-folder. This can be hard in C:\Program Files. If you cannot elevate your rights to admin, you could install the game elsewhere. Maybe even a different partition. That could very well fix your issue then. For 1.16.1, you should be able to simply copy the StarCraft folder elsewhere. I used to have a copy of my BW folder on a USB-Stick and was able to play it from that.
