I won't be surprise if the round of eight that has no Terran any players
|
I'm pretty confident Sharp and Last can get through. Don't underestimate how strong they are right now. I think Last and Sharp will both get through to the round of 8.
|
Group D are you even being serious right now, how did we end up with such a group?
I see. Group D is going to be a SERIOUS night of starcraft. Poor Stork, I wouldn't even bother practising for this one, wait for the next tournament.
my preds: A - Sharp 1st, Best/Zero 2nd, toss up there B - Snow 1st, Shine 2nd C - Soulkey 1st, Mini 2nd D- ???????
Those are some pretty comfy pyjamas they've got them dressed in this season, I was half expecting them to bring out pillows cause it looks like they're here for the best sleepover ever

its fine, the things I say make stork upset on a daily basis.

Jaedong will demolish Rain, mark my word, he trains again and his fpvod are getting really brutal.
|
Group D is pretty ridiculous..
I wish it would start a bit earlier, too..
Anyways, this is going to be really fun
|
|
How does Jaedong always end up in these kind of groups? *sigh* Lets hope his ZvP is still as good as it was in KSL 1, if so he should easily be able to destroy Rain and Stork. Maybe Last still has PTSD from all those JD fanboys trash talking him after KSL S1 finals.
Also kinda sucks for Zero (yeah Zero, not Queen, you don't get to change ur name) to have such a tough group in his first tourney after his military service.
|
The variety-style videos they made for the group selections in past editions were so good, quite sad that they just went for a regular live ceremony this time.

Sharp definitely makes it out of his group and Last has a pretty good chance as long as his wrists don't explode
|
I'm liking group A at the moment. Best, Sharp and Zero. Definitely, a tough group to get out of. I do hope Sharp can advance though. He has shown great form in the last year and it would be a shame to not see him get a premier win.
|
A and C seem stacked compared to the other 2. B especially looks weak.
|
Groups C and D could pass for SC2 GSL groups.

Action will have to do something crazy to beat Mini. But he's good at coming up with those kinds of strats. Should be fun to watch in any case.

Wow that sucks for rain and last. This tournament will be short for them.
|
How were these groups chosen? Seems like they were purposefully created to have no mirrors haha.
If only Jaedong was swapped with miso/shine
going to guess: group A - zero/sharp group B - snow/shine group C - mini/soulkey group D - Last/Rain
|
Finally, an easier group for snow, an a harder one for rain
group A group of death
Stork is playing the 3 mu vs a specialist of every mu and hes out of shape = dead meat

This is going to be awesome to watch. We are lucky to have so many good events going on.

Woooow
basically the only matchup I'm not ecstatic about is Ample v Shine.
What the fuck is Grp D. Too bad I missed everyone of that group streaming their reaction to this outcome. There's a real possibility Stork or JD will go out 0-2. Stork starting w/ a PvP might be what gives him a chance to compete though.

Damn, group D. I hope Jaedong makes it out of the group. He's still really good these days but he's nowhere near as clutch as he was before 2011.I

I'm sure JD would defeat Rain, thing is he might not even have the opportunity to play him.
I think Last should be able to defeat JD, Rain defeat Stork, JD defeat Stork in loser match, but Rain could beast last in winners match. That mean JD has to play Last, arguably the best player of the whole tournament twice in the Ro16. Can't believe how unlucky JD is as a player in general :|

Just a reminder that Stork is still really good at PvT taking games regularly off of Flash. Group D is super complicated. Can't wait.

Really hope my hero stork can get some decent results thing time around, but looking at his opponents I doubt it

Group D is obviously the most bomb group (come on JD you can get out of it) but A looks like it could deliver as well.

yes, thats why they're the current champions.

Pulling hard for my boy ForGG but I think the cosmos are aligned against him. I've been watching his stream and I think he 2facts against protoss probably.... every game lol? He usually wins with it but that kind of practice isn't going to help you if Mini KNOWS it's coming. And I don't think this map pool is especially good for 2fact anyway.
|
All I want is for JD to make it through.
Grah what a sick group. Hopefully Stork's pvp doesn't screw us. Rain vs Last rematch would be great.
|
Anyone know the starting maps and how the subsequent ones are decided?

I'm curious about what you guys think about the format for the KSL. From what I can gather, they play double-elim in the group stages bo5, and then bo7 in the semis and finals.I think this is a fantastic format - even if it was bo3 in the group stages I would've been happy.
Whereas in the ASL, they play double-elim bo1 in the group stages and then bo5 for the playoffs. I'm curious why they don't play at least bo3 in the group stages for the ASL??

I think running time and player stamina would probably be a key issue there. If they did Bo3s you'd need 10-15 games to decide a group and that means you'd have to split it into multiple nights like KSL - expecting somebody to play potentially up to 9 games of a matchup like TvT or TvZ would have diminishing returns on the quality of the games due to player fatigue. However, it would be harder to split up because KSL has the nice even system of AvB/CvD one night, Winners and Losers another and then 2x final bo5 on another night. If you try to start splitting up Bo3s you'd end up with a bit of an uneven schedule. You could do 3 bo3s in one night, then 2 on another or something maybe. I agree though that the bo1 format can be frustrating when you see a better player knocked out or have a very short night of dull games
I wouldn't mind seeing a compromise group stage where only the winners and final games as bo3s while the rest were bo1s. It would mean the much weaker players would be eliminated quickly and you wouldn't have to sit through a very one sided series while at the same time make it a bit harder for the good players to be eliminated by cheese plays designed to win bo1s.

Yeah, I'm not suggesting that they finish the group all in one night. Something like what KSL is doing or even if they hold multiple groups in one night.
Thus, it could be AvB/CvD from Group1 & Group2 in night one, and then winners/losers for both groups in another night.
The deciders for all Groups1-4 can be all done in a night.
The main point in my opinion is that I feel that bo1 group stage is not ideal.

shhh, i've spoken to my uncle at blizzard and he says they've already decided the trophy is going to JD, this is all part of a master plan that culminates in the announcement of sc3

KSL has a way better format. Maybe a bo5 is a bit of a stretch, bo3 would suffice I think, but it's for sure better than a bo1. I wish ASL had the old OSL format for groups and then a bo5 for every game of play-offs, except for the finals which should be a bo7.

Bo5 is appropriate for BW, maps are a pain to prepare for, especially when its loser's pick like it is in KSL, theres a reason why Afreeca does the things it does and its not just tradition.

Can't get excited enough for Group D. FlaSh still not participating, it's been long, hope his wrists are OK. I mean, if Last and JD can qualify, why can't the God himself.

pretty easy ro16 to predict, mini/soulkey, queen/sharp, snow/miso, last/jd probably make the ro8. rain is the only curveball in the groups. anyone know of amples aka or other names, if he isn't supposed to surprise I cant see any other ro8.

Ample is Sasin. Last will probably advance but remember Stork and Rain are PvT monsters. Last has even been knocked out in an ASL by Stork’s killer macro.

I think Best has better chances than Sharp, MisO is a clear underdog against Shine in zvz, ASL 6 wildcard (iirc?) actioN vs Mini was one of the best PvZ ive watched last year, actioN can always pull out a win, especially against Mini imo. As much as i root for JD, i think his best shot is if Last win against Rain in the winners match. Otherwise, hell die twice to Last

I think you should be able to buy there in person, although don't quote me on that, the location is new so we don't know the established rules.

If people actually believe that Jaedong is going to beat Last, they must have some information the rest of us don't have... Last just won the ASL guys. Let me repeat that, Last just finished winning the ASL. His play is unbelievably strong right now. Don't talk to me about his wrists. If Jaedong makes it out over Rain even, I would be very surprised. (I love you Jaedong, but come on man... I see your stream.)
People are still sleeping on Snow, after all that has happened recently... He is the strongest player in group B by far. Only, Shine has that mysterious quality that can allow him to win games against even the most formidable opponents. I hope Miso comes more prepared than he was for Calm in the ASL.
Mini vs Action? Yes, please. Best vs Zero? Aye sir, PvZ it is sir. May I have some more sir?
|
Lol poor action. Worst possible first match draw.
