Hey guys, I'm trying to run Starcraft Broodwar on Linux and I want to be able to play on battle.net. I've done a little research and can't come to the conclusion of whether or not it can be done (now--that is). I'm on Debian Stretch and tried using Wine and Play on Linux without success (aw).
Are any of you laddering on linux? If so, how so?

It's definitely possible to ladder SC:BW and SC:R on linux. I'm doing the latter. I'm using playonlinux. It seems the windows and the wine version are the most important parameters to even start the game. Never had any problems with online play in any game, as soon as i got the game to run that is.

The Docker images from that site are for older versions of the game though! So I doubt it would let me play on b.net.
What wine and windows are you using, Caspas?
I was able to install, but not play via playonlinux using wine 2.21 staged and windows 2003. I get an error: "a required DLL could not be found" when I try to run the game.
Frustrating...just tried posting on the b.net forums.

I have been trying many times on a Debian stretch, wine and virtualbox, nothing remotely playable. A working config will depend a lot on the system and hardware so...

I play on Ubuntu 18.04, Wine staging 2.14. Everything works perfectly.
Get wine staging 2.14 Use winecfg to set windows ver to 7 Install corefonts, vcrun2005 vcrun2008 and vcrun2015 using winetricks Install Blizzard App Make a folder called starcraft in your wine program files directory and locate it using the bnet app. The bnet app thinks your starcraft install is broken and will start fixing it Once its fixed you should be able to launch it and play.
Dunno if I remembered to explain everything, if you run into trouble just ask for help. Iopg, gestalt and me have had no trouble with remastered + wine.

In case routas setup doesnt work: I'm on Ubuntu 16.04, no vcrun2015 here, wine 2.21-staging with Windows 10.. The latter is bold because on my system Win7 stopped working a few weeks ago and switching to Win10 required me to also switch wine version, dont remember which i had previously, tho. gl hf

I am using Wine 3.8 staging (Windows 10) on Ubuntu 18.04 and could play SC:R. However, I cannot host games (this happens on my other computer as well, with almost the same setup).

Tried this. Got the game downloading. On shitty wifi. Will report back!

Its also possible to run SC on Virtual Box, despite the OS you have. I successfully ran SC FULL SCREEN on VBox running Windows XP (the host was 8.1). There is a VBox version for Linux Debian of course.

Installed game. Runs. Created a bot game on battle.net. Everything seems like it's working! Thanks, guys.

I installed battle.net and bw remastered threw lutris, everything seems to work fine except for one thing my minimap box keeps getting pulled down to the right corner, I don't really have any control of it for some weird reason. Does anyone know why that can be? Thanks.

i don't get what u mean, ur minimap is swapping sides? or you can't control your cursor? sounds like a cursor capture problem?

SC:R works flawlessly under wine, given:
- wine staging is used
- not very old graphics card (at least Intel HD Graphics 4000)
- "Hardware Cursor" is enabled
- "Real Time Lightning" is disabled (unless maybe a very powerful PC is used)
If you're an owner of a high (60+ fps) framerate monitor, configuring DXVK (DirectX-over-Vulkan) might make sense (but I haven't tried yet).
As for ShieldBattery, it's not yet working, but I'm sure it's possible, just need some efforts...
