I'd find it difficult to believe that he would quit I streaming site because of haters to go to a site whose chat of larger streams is arguably a cesspool. Sure moderators can help out, but for someone as big as JD, it'll be filled to the brim with trolls, especially after leaving one sure for haters already; they smell blood in the water

Would be a good start - but I figure there would be a lot of people who would be willing to pay $5 / month (or use a twitch prime) to harass one of the best current players in BW, especially if they know that it hurts him.

Is there some place or way that we can show our support for him? I certainly respect his decision, no one should be looked down upon for not wanting to entertain vitriol and hate. But regardless of what he chooses to do going forward I hope there is some outlet for him to see how many loving fans he has.

Maybe TL can send him a letter :3 where we give him our support, just as a nice thing.

And as far as I know it is not just his stream chat. People can message him in other ways, and on Fish, etc... what I don't get is that these people want Broodwar to come back, right? Then why hate on a famous icon of your game? JD has proved he is an amazing player with a great work ethic and sacrifice over the years.

I guess that where success goes, haters will always follow... or maybe some people are bitter over his sc2 transition or his lack of success there, or his difficulty in getting back to top form, idk.

My best guess would be leaving korea and playing for a foreign team. AFAIK korean netizens hate players who did that. Though I can't really see why BW fans would care about his sc2 career.

And sometimes it's far far more than that. But yeah, i think he could find enough dedicated mods to make a difference at least. It would probably prevent him from seeing as much of the negative comments, even though it won't prevent it completely. I imagine that it's not just one comment here or there that hurts a streamer, it's the buildup over time. Everyone is different with how they handle that kind of thing though, we should just respect JDs wishes on the matter and hope we still get to see him play in tournaments.

koreans are overly sensitive to what other koreans do or think (from my point of view)

they know its trolls who do this for trolling but yet somehow succeed or fail by what these trolls do so awkward

What people need to understand is that Korea (and some other East Asian cultures. I'm Korean so I don't know outside of East Asia, so i won't comment on cultures I don't know) is very shame-based. It comes from the country being a very communal culture where saving face and reputations is something super important to everyone involved. The fact that in Japan people would die by seppuku (killing themselves) rather than die at the hands of an enemy (if they knew the enemy had a reputation for mutilating their captors) is very telling that society is very interconnected and reputations are worth dying for. Also if someone had something shameful in the community, they would commit seppuku (and kill other family members that had shamed the family). It's very very different from the individualistic societies of the western world, but it makes sense if you understand this about koreans and streaming. You might call it overly sensitive; they might call you overly insensitive. You might call it stupid; they might tell you that it's stupid to live only for yourself and not care about the legacy/bigger picture and impact you have in the rest of the world. I hope this wasn't too attacking; I just wanted to share a part of my culture and explain what might seem as overly dramatic (as a Korean living in America, I struggle with this balance pretty often as well )

I don't think it has anything to do with foreign teams or playing sc2. I mean Flash has the same problem whenever he loses a game and also considered to just stop BW if I remember the posts in this forum right. It's just... trolls being trolls as sad as it is. Sadly you can't do a lot against it if your career is based on streaming

1000 viewers is not very much. Only a handful of those would be chatting. If you had 1000 chatters it would ve a different story. To gain control then and actually have a readable chat, you need slow mode, bots and mods.

To Jaedong (If you read this),

You have inspired me for almost a decade of my life. I had watched brood war for 11 years, before you rose, and every zerg-hero failed. Watching I always felt that zerg could do better.

Your talent and concentration turned zerg into a 4th dimensional race. You wielded zerg as if it were a cartoon beehive, making each unit feel alive, like a puppeter does, and like a General - you made art out of combat. You Sir are my Broodwar champion.

Today, your games are inspiring and entertaining, here is a quote from Marcus Aurelius that I think may help with the haters:

“If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.”

Jaedong Hwaiting~!

He should be making a ton with the number of viewers he had right? Trolls suck, and sounds like it sucks worse in Korean culture, but I hope the money if nothing else brings him back soon.
