(T)sSak

(T)sSak is currently the top Terran in the world. There is very little competition for this title right now. (T)Sea sits high on the elo charts like (P)Bisu, but both have done little since SSL9 to prove worthy of their spots. Meanwhile, sSak is taking over the game. Let’s start from the beginning.

The Beginning

2011 PDPop MSL/Group Stage Ro32

The game that shook the world and put sSak on the map. It’s just 9 days before Christmas and it looks like Flash fans were given a huge gift. They would get to see him advance to the easiest round of 16 group he’s ever been in. The players: sSak comes from SK Telecom T1 as a bench Terran player. (T)Classic is a Terran player on the decline. Still no one knows who the hell (T)Miso is. Finally, there is the god (T)Flash.

Opening with a TvT, Flash would have to defeat this simple b-teamer sSak. At the same time Classic has just been knocked into the losers bracket by still little known zerg, Miso. Here’s the game between Flash and sSak.

In a surprising fashion and extremely close game, one of the largest upsets in Flash’s career goes down. This b-team Terran player topples god. Shortly after, Classic finds his gosu form and defeats Flash knocking out god in one of the most dramatic ro16 groups ever.

Return of the God Slayer

March 5, 2013 marks the end of an incredible SSL run and return of sSak to the progaming scene in official matches. Shortly before playing in any Sonic teams, the Brood War forums were filled with rumors. At the end of 2012, everyone was speculation who had quit SC2 pro teams and would return to Brood War. Then an amazing terran started winning all the games on Fish. Many though the rumored SK Telecom player was Canata or Fantasy. Instead it was sSak who began streaming his games live and show dominance on the ladder scene.

Beginning in the ro32, sSak was faced against Sea, Hiya, and Cola. Sea would later become the best player in the world, but for now sSak show why he is the best TvT-er in the world and overcomes this group. With a 68% winrate in the past two years is just 5% short of Flash’s god like TvT record that sits at 73%. Both win rates are just absolutely unheard of any matchup unless the person is a bonjwa. In thist case, sSak is a TvTjwa.

So the ro16 rolls in and sSak has 2 more Terrans and a Protoss in this group, Hiya, Mong, and Lazy. sSak is just one step closer to the legend of the winter as he continues to dominate.

Going into the Quarter Finals sSak matches fan favorite Larva and is able to defeat him in a very on sided victory. Larva’s zerg bretheren Killer returns the favor by stomping sSak 3-0. sSak would end SSL8 with a bronze medal in a close victory against by.Hero.

The Controversy

Continuing the success of 2013, sSak makes an incredible run in Sonic’s 15th SRT. The ro16 being fortunate to him again, sSak has a ro16 group stage with two Terrans and a Protoss, Ample, Shout, and Pusan. Advancing to the ro8 sSak runs over Lazy 3-0 and then stomps Pusan killing off a hope of a Protoss in the finals. Finally we get to one of the few controversial moments of the Sonic Era.

These are the vods of the finals. Game 2 is a MUST WATCH before finishing this article.

(I’m assuming you watched Game 2)After watching the game live, it appeared that sSak had a monumental lead in the game and somehow managed to lose the game anyway. The investigation on this was short and no game throwing was found, but still it haunted the minds of Brood War spectator veterans who remember the match fixing scandal. Honestly, Sea just played insanely well and it is probably one of the most entertaining TvTs of 2013.

Enter 2014 sSak

Sea and Hiya, the scary Terrans of 2013, seem to have fallen behind some coming into 2014. Players such as Mong, Mind, and Piano have surfaced as the new scary Terrans. Recent results however, give sSak the title as best Terran so far this year.

I remember seeing his game a few years ago wondering who he was. I expected big things but he never really broke out.

I can't even remember the map name, but it was that desert map with the one sunken/creep block at the entrance.

Good writeup. I remember watching his SRT finals against Sea a while back. Sea was frigging amazing! He made sSak look like he was a b-teamer lol. I dunno how but it just seemed that Sea managed to anticipate everything sSak would try and he was rewarded with a 4-0 victory. Having said that, sSak was and is still looking strong but I wouldn't count out Sea. Maybe we'll get a Sea vs sSak BO5 at one point :D

Even if Fantasy were to come back, I would still root for sSak.

Terror has the spotlight in another recent thread for now, but a Zerg is next so I will take other requests for next week.

Fun read, I had no idea about the controversy against Sea

I love sSak's Afreeca streams...not the loud talkative type, which makes his frequent smiles and occasional fist-pumps much more fun to see

Bisu always seem to seek sSak (much moreso than HiyA and Mong) out when in need of a Terran opponent during their Afreeca streams

Maybe BD can do a Mini Bio for the top Zergs in the weeks to follow -- Killer and Hero? They always appear to be very mensch-y types on their streams, humble but appreciative

sick city. love this guy.

Sea's is ok, but I find his style pretty boring. he plays sk terran well I guess.
Ssak is on another level though, especially his TvT:
