Haha yeah. But I don't think that is necessary. Fun game between this 2 players asking other player's advice to beat each other is an insult on their level :D
haha no matter how bad the two are im still hyped for some BW showmatches lol. kinda lame though that the main audience (im assuming) is the NA/EU ppl so it probably wont have the funny chatting stuffz

Where did you hear this?
That would probably explain why Jaedong's is listed under YellOw's Kongdoo's Gamer Management:

I know it was just big misconception that Stork lost so many vs JD and Bisu because everyone remembered the finals he lost Yea he lost all 3 finals to Flash JD and Bisu (2 OSLs and 1 MSL). What a story.
Of course no one gonna count this showmatch as anything serious for all i care they can play on Lost Temple and have fun.

if there was a league like 10 above grandmaster it would be somewhere around there im sure.

Someone who plays on Fish and knows about it more would have a better answer but I think B on Fish is pretty much the equivalent of Grandmaster in SC2, going by how many people are able to achieve it.

Korean Grandmaster is occupied by some of the people who were top BW progamers who were well above Fish -_-

From what I heard about fish D rank players on there are like C/C+ On Iccup, and you regularly well kinda see pro streamers losing games at D/C so that has to give some evidence for how high up they are

the match against ForGG doesn't leave me hopeful for Jaedong lol. I mean, he won but his play looked off and ForGG basically gave the game away Regardless, should be interesting

I don't mean to be rude to Nathanias, but when he was casting the fOrGG vs Jaedong showmatch, he called a relatively normal 3rd as a hidden expansion. So to say SC2 players have a strong BW background isn't necessarily true. But again, respect to Nathanias, I think he's fun to watch for WCS.
Here's to hoping that Apollo, iNcontrol, and White-ra are there to cast.

Yeah the hidden expansion thing turned me off to the casters, they were instant mute after that.
I'd love to see some Tasteless/Day9 or something though

I agree that Nathanias was pretty clueless at the time of the JD ForGG match, but ever since Nathanias tuned in to the SSL9 finals (he was in the Twitch chat during Sayle's cast), I got the impression that he at least developed some interest in Brood War and looked more into it. I certainly wouldn't count him out if he gets his knowledge base higher.

Yeah, low D on Fish (1700) is more like B/B+ on iCCup, not C/C+.
So awesome to get to see Jaedong playing some more BW again. This will also show proof of whether he's been playing on fish or not ever since the ForGG match.

To be totally transparent, if you were watching live I made sure to say several times I never followed pro BW. I only cast the match because I was the main English stream for the whole SC2 event as well. I don't claim to have any understanding of pro BW even though I began playing in 2004 it was never melee games only customs. I couldn't tell you a single build order for any race

Nothing to fret about. The cast was pretty entertaining, and its 100 times better that 12,5 minutes of radio silence, especially since the game was so-so. Thanks and looking forward to more such coincidences

Yeah, you can say that for such a build to work, you need good Muta micro for it to be effective. It's just that usually, you don't see a Zerg commit to making Mutalisks the entire game to win and/or you see them transition into Lurkers and Hive tech to get Defilers with Dark Swarm. It's just him looking to end the game with effective harassment, forcing the Terrans to go bonkers while having to defend Mutalisks and making a significant amount of Turrets to capitalize with Guardians to end the game.
If both haven't practiced for a somewhat equal amount of time, I think stork has the upper hand. But given the rumours that Jaedong practices on fish under secret accs, and if true, perhaps Jaedong is the sure win here where and when can we watch this live?

The closest comparison is top 50 grand master korean server and that number might be top 10.
People who're descent in ICCup (C ish) is equivalent to a D ranked fish player (if not an F ranked one, I haven't laddered at all on fish so I might very well be wrong).

It was so bad that if I didn't know who they were, I would have assumed they were some bad foreigners. In fact, apart from name value, games between high level foreigners are better and more entertaining than fOrGG vs Jaedong was.
But what did people expect? They play SC2 for a living. It's not like they have the time to practice BW.

Then its better to stick only to sc2, instead of making bw looks ugly and silly. JD vs forgg was complete failure, so bad that i didnt want to watch it and i skipped to the end to see who wins. I think people who organise this should be ashamed as well as the players if they play so bad. Its like group of big names former musicians who didnt touched their instruments in years and they come up on big stage in front of crowd exepting some good show. But instead all they get is just bad performance with bunch of false notes, unsynched rhytm and vocalist who cant remember his own lyrics, it could be really a show, but very pathetic since people on the stage was used to be glorious back in the day.

You know, there is something called fun. Even if it isn't the highest of all play it is still fun to watch them play. Your comparison is really bad since a good show in BW doesn't have to be 100% perfect games.

Someone who plays on Fish and knows about it more would have a better answer but I think B on Fish is pretty much the equivalent of Grandmaster in SC2, going by how many people are able to achieve it.
From what I heard about fish D rank players on there are like C/C+ On Iccup, and you regularly well kinda see pro streamers losing games at D/C so that has to give some evidence for how high up they are
if you're D rank on fish, you're B+ or higher on iccup... if you can maintain like like 30-40 record with 700ish points at F rank on fish ur like C+ iccup....

how good is that in sc2 terms? master in korea?
The closest comparison is top 50 grand master korean server and that number might be top 10.
People who're descent in ICCup (C ish) is equivalent to a D ranked fish player (if not an F ranked one, I haven't laddered at all on fish so I might very well be wrong).
edit: read thread.
I think C+ iccup is about E fish.
well, it depends, LancerX is B+ and he is F on fish ;D

You know, there is something called fun. Even if it isn't the highest of all play it is still fun to watch them play. Your comparison is really bad since a good show in BW doesn't have to be 100% perfect games.
No offense but JD vs forgg was not fun to watch at all. Forgg just failed badly and JD was only mediocre.

If the fish ranking system is still the same as a few months ago, there are 60 people with B rank or better right now. So I guess it would be top 60 KR grandmaster in sc2 terms.
looking at fish ranks now, ranks 60~16 are B 15~5 are A and 4~1 is S :o so you were right on the money on 60 lol

Just curious, will there be a Korean restream of this match? I'd be very interested in the viewership, although it's probably a really bad timezone for them.

Exactly. Your post is from 4:01 and showmatch is supposed to be happen at 5:00.
Please note that the time was estimated by me (reasonably well, check my post), especially since the HSC thread gives 11 PM CET (6 PM KST) as the starting hour.
As a side note, the thing that was not touched upon when discussing what could spark more interest in BW are showmatches by former pros who now do HotS, which while of questionable quality sometimes (the forgg thing) are probably one of the best tools of reaching to a larger audience especially the kind who knows something about RTS

I think scheduling will be a problem. Traditionally this tournament doesn't run exactly on time and there are a lot of matches to get through still; not to mention JD is still playing in Ro16 so it won't be for a while at least.

I hope we can get some BW experts to cast it and help bridge between the SC2 audience and BW. I would love to get some of that juicy BW insight only the old pros know about. It's funny how much trivial and hidden stuff there is within competitive BW, like you can't even Google how to vulture micro.

Incontrol said so on stream.
Ah Maybe Jaedong and Stork get reenergised playing their first game and decide to play more >< I hope it lasts longer than Jaedong vs ForGG.
I don't think they're in a position to decide things, and frankly, while it would be cool, I can understand if they made it a one game affair. It's almost 1 o'clock and we don't know when this Bo3's gonna end, with all the people partying already even JD and Stork might not be burning with BW passion, let alone people supposed to cast this.

Don't let TaShadan tarnish the fact that we just saw Stork vs JD in BW. Yeah, they are not as good as in 2007 when they both led SPL in wins for their respective races, but it's a showmatch.

Someday we will get Bisu. ;_; Ye, it tends to happen when you get back your favourite toy. :D Hope, Jaedong wins whole thing tomorrow, he wasn't laughing as much as Stork was.
Of course it was not the level of play in their prime, but seriously, if you expect that from a match that was spontaneously scheduled, none of the players had a chance to practice (get some muscle-memory back etc), at 1am in the night after a long tournament day, after drinking some beers... then the problem lies with your expectations, not the players.
Props to the TO for asking Stork and JD and of course to both players for agreeing to this despite risking being ridiculed for their "bad BW-skillz *lulz* "
damn, this funmatch really makes me digging up some old bw-vods again, as well
WOW they're so enjoying broodwar even tho it's at 2am after a 14hours tour and before it's about 25k$ in 12hours again so it's cool to still do showmatches and they were nice games for playing it after ages, it entertained 30k viewer so don't fucken complain (plz no ban^^)
also work out much o.o JD and Stork both look so hawt ^^
pretty much no way for JD to be practicing secretly on fish, let alone being B it seems to me. stork won convincingly all 3 games. he just decided to get way too greedy after getting a ridiculous advantage in the beginning in game 1. JD somewhat significantly sloppy in late games. i really enjoyed how Jaedong tried to go for bulgarian zvp in game 2 though
You did not miss anything. Worst games ever. Looked like c- vs d+. I mean i suck in bw too but i expected more from former pros.
I know you have played, but comments like these make me want to go "have you ever played BW". Maybe you meant it as hyperbole but that's a bit silly too.
They were rusty yes, and sloppy. It was still miles better play than C- level. Even foreigners who come back from not playing for several years are insta yellow ranks, and these are JD and Stork two of the best players of their respective race. Play was easily green ranks or better, with some moments of sloppy micro.

At this rate, EG is gonna keep throwing money at JD for a long time to come unless JD wants out due to slumping or military or contractual disputes or loss of passion.
Game 3 was good. I would have really want to see reavers and mutas to show my wife why i still love this game. Those smiles were priceless.
Haters gonna hate, it wasn't as epic as in the past but in a sense it still was. Really happy they accepted it. I was worried they wouldn't accept because they knew they couldn't be "good games for fans".
But really. I can't emphathyze how i'm happy to see them playing BW again.
Finding VODs of our legends that are watchable for a non initiate is so hard (I know we stil watch the blurry vids in 144p but you can't show that to someone that have never watch BW).
Still this game reminded me why I quit watching SC2 and moved to dota2 - BW is such a better game to watch.
I actually had a dream last night after watching the game, I was playing protoss again, on destination, vs zerg. The sense of despair when I couldn't handle my macro during a fight and had 4k left and had to queue zealots and build 10 gateways I swiftly realized it was a nightmare.
Somehow I ended having a small army of army of carriers, battlecruisers (dunno how I made em as protoss xD) goons and a couple templars, and he was mining from just one base, but I spent all my minerals and just had 150 left, not enough for a nexus and for some reason I couldn't just distance mine with probes in my dream.

Considering the circumstances, they did great. Would have loved to see more late game action, but it still was so much fun. Concerning gameplay for me still bw > sc2.
That was so bad. Stork playing stargate and botching his only shuttle venture, jd losing mutas to archons and overlooking a ramp into his nat in game 3...

maybe the setup wasnt optimal
idk how they ran the games
because even with their own gear (actually especially because of their own gear), if its setup everything for sc2, then Bw is going to be very very hard to play / control, because dpi / refresh rate / laucnher (if they used it) window resizing).
even if they used no launcher, the mouses they use would still fuck it up with sc2 settings i think
and since koreans are very bad at computers and setting up their own stuff, and that i'm not sure either anyone of the staff there, knew about how to run bw smooth, maybe the games were difficult to play given the circumstances

Bisu tried Sc2 for a few months, with disappointing results. Who knows if he ever even really "switched" (I doubt it, when he "retired" he said that he just didn't enjoy Sc2 at all). On the other hand Jaedong has been dedicated to Sc2 for years now with excellent results.

"but that's not comparable" ?
read please
Oh I did, saying that their games were "awful, very low level", about a showmatch by two guys playing for fun after years of not touching the game is just that: a negative opinion for negativity's sake based upon unreasonable expectations. Edit: I apologise for especially quoting you and all, this pertakes to a couple of other posters too

Then I woke up. If I crushed the zerg with my last army we will never know, but it only confirms that BW was so good the VODs continue into your dreams.
rofl, that was a good read
i remember having BW dreams too, perhaps the most weird of which being watching tanks being sieged in the corner of a football field
I think I remember... tasteless had a stronger return to bw than bisu... like tasteless beat A ranked players the day he started streaming bw again. Bisu was losing and needed a couple months to warm up. I know like iccup < fish skill wise but still.
Ge geeeeeeeeeeeeeee's I love u Dino Toss, making me happy :D They seem to have pretty good time with BW.
Nice games, its funny how many people thought Jaedong will own Stork. If you look at their games on the last few OSL's, Stork was the better player and had no hard time reading Jaedong's game and he have lead in their 1v1 games. I had only one concern for Stork not wining and it was if Jaedong really playing BW outside of SC2.
Could someone tell me how many viewers this got live? I unfortunately could not watch live, watching the rerun now and I am glad to see the players are having fun with it

maybe with very little practice. what stork did first game really took me back. It's been a while since I've seen someone do that type of opening lol and the Hungarian sensation would have no problems with them atm. If you gave them a few weeks of practice though. Yeah, they could give a few people a run for their money.
I didn't think the second game was that one-sided. This impression is due to the observer missing JD very sucessful double lurker drop foor a long time.
Jesus Christ, everyone's so negative. They were fun games, who cares if it was B on ICCUP level. And 35,000 people, most of whom never saw BW before, got some exposure to it. This was nothing but good for BW

Seriously, bunch of arm-chair progamers. It's like they paid tickets to see an OSL finals then got this. It was literally just a fun show for the fans to watch, JD sac'd probably an hour or two of sleep he may have liked for his play today to put this on.

As someone who never watched BW I can tell you, that while I could tell they weren't high level games, just seeing the way the game plays out with constant action and smaller battles definitely comes across and is very cool.

That obs was really bad, i can't believe he missed a drop on destination, then he is like "sorry first time I obs bw" as if there is no minimap in sc2.
Then next game he misses drop templar. You would think he would prepare juuuuuuuust a bit before broadcasting Jaedong vs Stork.
It was at a very late time though and after having casted many sc2 matches. I'm sure he was tired and it's probably harder obsing bw as opposed to sc2 cus sc2 has all those weird automated buttons and shit. I figure it was probably hard for incontrol to obs and cast at the same time since he was doing the majority of the talking being the BW "expert"

That was pretty fun to watch. You can tell how the quality of life improvements in SC2 such as worker/army rally really screwed with their gameplay in BW lol
finally watched this. Much much much better than Jaedong vs ForGG lol. We got to see cracklings, multiple fights, some defilers etc... would've loved to have reavers, ultralisks and such but can't complain seeing as I knew their skill levels going on

In obs mode, the SC2 minimap flashes when units or buildings are under attack to help you not miss things, which BW obviously doesn't. #themoreyouknow
Also, as said, he was drunk and it was 1 in the morning and he was probably spending his mental energy on not sounding stupid

Yup, that is the most Important thing :D I hope they also have a good time playing SC2, but they probably do, I remember Stork saying that he was really dissappointed because he really enjoys SC2 but can't translate this into results and he also wants fans to enjoy it with him/see how much is enjoying it, thats why he started doing ceremonys. Also one thing I want to say as a guy who enjoys both SC2 and BW, I don't think it helps to convert newer people to BW, and I really hope they have a chance to check out some of the amazing games that happened over the years so I want them to convert, if we are beeing so elitist about it. Sure we probably think it is one if not THE best game ever made, but that doesn't mean we have to be dicks about it. I personally like both, and while thinking that BW is better, there is no other RTS that comes close to SC2 other than BW. That doesn't mean I have to call WC3 guys out, because aslong as they have fun with their game and enjoy their time, then that is great! I used this showmatch to bring BW closer to a friend who only knows SC2, showing him that this game is awesome and that some of his favorite players started with it. I also wanted to show him the cool hardcore community, that still loves and supports the game after all this time, but looking at some of the posts I just couldn't, so I hope I dont get shouted on for this, but that we try to be a little bit friendlier even if we all know/believe that BW is the better game, doesn't mean that SC2 can't be awesome aswell, even if maybe not for us, then for other people.
