Sorry for my sloppy translation, if someone can do a better translation, that would be great! We are currently working hard to having the 10th Sonic Starleague start in may and run throughout the summer. We are aiming for the first place prize to be around $25,000 - $30,000. Sbenu CEO (Sonic) is actively trying to improve the conditions of the tournament.
The current studio at the SinbalFarm office can hold about 100 people, but we are trying to create a place where 300 - 400 people can come.
We are preparing for the 10th Sonic Starleague to be a far better tournament than other leagues. Thank you for the love and interest that you have shown so far. Please love the 10th Sonic Starleague and Sbenu!
The 10th Sonic Starleague will kick off with Fashion Brand Sbenu as the official sponsor. There will be a bigger prizepool. Players will have uniforms. Players will be treated well and respected like never before. The CEO of Sbenu struggled to come to a decision before declaring their support, but because this is happening despite the obstacles that have come our way, this will be the greatest 10th Starleague.
There will be a 128 man tournament to determine the best amateur player (T/N most likely to be seeded into the tournament, I presume), as well as the top 16 from SSL 9, making up the toughest lineup of players that will show the greatest skill and abilities this Starleague.
Details for prizepool distribution and schedule for matches will be announced in future announcements.

I agree, if he only had 2-4 weeks to prepare for SSL10, I think he would have had a legitimate reason, but since SSL10 is probably at least a couple of weeks away, I'm hoping thats enough time for him to rest up.
I hope Sonic can hire someone to do most of the day to day operations for him. He needs to be careful not to overexert himself, especially considering that he's the CEO of a company for his day job. He is a critical part of the BW and eSports scene

Oo, I like a lot of competition. I'd like to see some Chinese players, but considering you play in person for SSL I doubt it - even Light didn't want to travel to play.

Anyone knows if Bisu revoked his statement that he doesn't want to participate in ssl 10? I hope he has rested already, it's confirmed that the 16 are seeded so i hope he doesn't give his slot to somebody. I really want to see him defend his title.
midas just looks so done... lol I guess sonic couldn't find a different sponsor and decided to sponsor himself with the spring sbenu stuff. that's cool too i guess since he's promoting his own new stuff. Would be cool if there was a convenient way to buy sbenu shoes.

It's that korean work ethic though. back when sonic was still casting games from his office you'd see his employees still at work on like a friday when its 11~12pm in korea and his chat would be like "omg sonic tell your employees to go home!" and sonic would be like "i told them they could leave but they said they have more work to do and won't go"

Can we PLEASE have a TeamLiquid donation button to increase the price pool for SSL10?
Can we have it so that Sonic can post up something like "Care package from TeamLiquid." ?
And then maybe have him posting something like "If you guys want to improve/learn English, please go listen to SayleSC @ www.twitch.com/teamliquid." so to elevate our views and thus getting the stream into top spot on Twitch thus further increase our presence?

I would donate some prize money. Preferably to the Ro8 losers, as I feel that Ro8 is the true goal of a lot of decent or good players who know they have little chance of taking the championship, but think they can make a good run if they get lucky in the brackets. More money in the Ro8 means players will practice harder and give us better games, imo. What was the payout for Ro8 losers in SSL9? I know the top 4 money from Sayle's videos, but not anything after that.
Advancing to ro16 was 100$ advancing to ro8 was 200$ so those who made it to ro8 got 300$ and a seed. so not that bad but could be more evenly distributed.
"The 10th Sonic Starleague will kick off with Fashion Brand Sbenu as the official sponsor."
Does this mean that Sonic couldn't find a sponsor or did he just figure that it would actually be profitable for him to advertise his own product and earn on both fronts?

Korean tournaments have aways seemed unevenly distibuted to me, be it BW or 2 with the winner taking 50% or at time a bit more of the prize pool, and after that a landslide down every place.

He is having secondary sponsors.
Yeah but ssl9 had 18k overall, i just don't understand how he can do 25k for only the first place now :D
In order for the league to truly reach mainstream numbers, this HAS to be re-introduced on TV. TV signals have less technical difficulties than online streaming and encourages more people to watch. And former players needs to get in touch with their former coaches/managers to re-ignite a chance at a BW ProLeague featuring former teams.
At this point of progression, the above statement isn't exactly far fetched.
25k-30k first place? that's crazy! SSL keeps getting better and better. Pretty sure it'll eventually get to OSL prize money based on how fast the changes are. Amazing stuff from Sonic as usual! I dunno about the studio part though. I can understand wanting more people to come to watch but is it really the best time to increase prize pool and expand the studio?

The current studio is too crowded. The OGN studio and the current PL studio are more spacious thus are inviting for people to come in (more room to breath).

Well his shoe brand Sbenu has been doing incredibly well. I mean he even has offline shops. if you just search for 스베누 on naver you get a shoe/sneaker popularity search on the side and his new spring brand sbenu S-line is #1 and then sbenu is #2. and then at #7 theres another sbenu brand. Sbenu also has an incredibly strong grasp on the college age group. On top of that he's got this popular girl group called AOA + Show Spoiler [they sang this song] +
AOA more AOA from drama shining romance lead singer for CNBlue from some tv show called 1박2일
and there's a bunch more too
I'm sure Sonic has the money to make the prize pool that big. I'm also sure Sonic isn't dumb and he definitely wont put every penny he's earned into running a starleague. I do however think he's putting too much into 1st though. Should instead balance it out and give good pay outs to 4th and below. Especially since it starts at a 128 player qualifier stage that means just getting into ro32 will be a challenge and they should be rewarded for their efforts. + Show Spoiler [roughly what OSL payouts were] +
I guess he was unsuccessful in finding a different sponsor though. Too bad but in a way this is an investment for sonic and it might be a pretty good way to get his brand publicized even more. It'd be nice if someone like FIX stepped in and offered to sponsor again. I heard FIX earphones sold incredibly well to the point where certain colors were sold out and it took longer to ship because they had to wait for more supply to get in.
Also the translation about the studio, he's saying he wants to change the studio layout a bit and try to accommodate for more people (300~400 so I'm assuming there are portions of the studio that is being used as storage possibly? not sure)

thought he wanted to expand or move to some other studio or something. If it's just a re-arrangement of the layout, then I think it's a great idea to try and get more people to come in to watch. Thanks for translating!

Man this is like music to my ear.
Thanks JC for bringing us the good news, oh man this even feels better than having more BW exposure but that our hero himself is getting the praise and recognition he deserves.
Btw, can overseas purchase Sbenu/Sinbal Farms products? I would love to support myself some Sonic merchandise.
It seems to differ from brand to brand though.. some charts says 270 is a US size 10 some say 280 is. I'd say the lower end of sbenu shoes 220~240/250 is for females and then up is for males. Doesn't seems to have any bigger sizes except for certain shoes.

It is occurring to me that as he gets more and more viewership, his sponsorship of SSL may not be an unfortunate necessity as people often think of self-sponsorship, but actually an opportunity for him. If it would be an attractive investment for other companies to sponsor a tournament, why not for his? I heard FIX were buoyed quite nicely by the last SSL and this actually could be working very nicely for Sonic's business, particularly considering Sbenu's target demographic.

Well, his business seems to be growing quite a bit (he recently opened two offline shops as far as I know), and I would say part of that growth is thanks to all the exposure he got as a sponsor of his own events.

I think you've got it backward. Of course Sonic loves Brood War and it is a huge part of his life, but the reason he puts himself to so much trouble is likely in no small part because he sees it as a valuable thing for his business. Like initially when it was just him streaming it had virtually no overhead costs.
One thing in business is trying to make your product somehow different from other people's, and finding your own untapped market. Fair trade coffee gets people with disposable income who want to support small farms, Sonic shoes gets people who want to support Brood War players (esp. retired professionals). All I mean is I don't think he'd ever have seen it as an unfortunate necessity, I think he saw the time he put into it as justifiable. He'd annoy or at least worry a lot of people he was working with if he were putting the company's money into something that didn't help it at all. It's also no small advantage that people know the face and the person behind this company and like him, which is something pretty difficult to do in business. Normally people try to cheat that step by just using celebrity endorsement, but Sonic kinda made himself a minor celebrity, and because the connection between him and the product is way more direct, it's pretty powerful.
It's convenient that he can so easily justify doing something he enjoys, but I think the reason he doesn't let himself get burnt out from doing so much of it is because he knows it is important for his business. What is Sinbal Farm without StarCraft?
not yet, sonic has been posting a lot of things regarding his company, but nothing yet about SSL10. I'm sure there are still a lot of things to do, as he has been expanding his company, and just wrapped up the allstars. it shouldn't be much longer though.
Sorry I didn't see this until just now, but sonic had posted this last week.
These days I'm so busy, there is no time to spare. It's because I'm preparing activities for a school donation, lectures, expanding my business to gangwondo (province in korea) and busan, and things seem to keep conflicting with one another. The Superfight matches and 10th Starleague are progressing without problems. I'm going to keep my promises
Even though I'm a broadcaster, the fact is that I still need to eat and live. I have to do the important things first or else I can't do the broadcasting very well.
Next week (early august) or the beginning if 2 weeks from now (week after this post) the Super Fight will open, then after the super fight, I will release the schedule of the SSL10.
Thank you for watching and staying tuned. There will be no problems. Please wait a little bit longer!

Yeah I thought about translating that post but it doesn't say anything new. It's titled "SSL10 starts" but it doesn't. Probably expect November, December or even later. Dunno why, Sonic keeps delaying it saying they need to work on it more to make it better but you can see from comments that ppl don't care all that much and would prefer the league to just finally start and carry on continually. Maybe Sonic is recharging or just way too busy. In the meantime there are many other leagues and events so it's cool but it is rather unfortunate.
sonic is just so busy, his facebook posts has stuff about like new store opening and things like that fairly recently. He's really growing his business.
Running a multi-store new business and growing it is a lot of work. He's probably trying to go really big with the bw events (e.g. large venue for the finals, etc etc) but a smaller scale consistent league would be really good.
Hey Everyone is working really hard! We are working really hard with meeting another company, and we are creating a really good environment! Please wait a little longer. We will try to start during the 2nd or 3rd week of November. We first need to finish up on the interior of the studio. The event matchups too! We are working on a system to allow the matchups to go smoothly. Business is going well, so it's not like we aren't going to do the starleague, instead since business is going so well we will have an amazing starleague! Don't believe any of the strange rumors. I want to apologize because we weren't able to start as soon as we had wanted. But since actions speak louder than words, we are going to try really hard and sometimes even do some personal broadcasting.

But really, I'm quite hyped up for this. I'm hoping that we can get the bots fixed so I can watch on my phone in class since I bet the matches will be during my work time/class time
