Errr, I've been around for a while and apparently TL.net is the best and the oldest English Starcraft forum, anyone disagrees?
Ok, so since i've always fcked up with history, prolly some of you gosu can answer a couple of my questions. And please dont flame my chobo ass, u little fuckwit:
1. Who's the man/woman/sh(e)im/lord created this forum and when was it first made?
2. Why is this called Team Liquid? (Some says it was first created for the team named 'liquid' only, then expanded to international community)
3. Why on the top of the forum there is a bunch of horses running in some sort of 'liquid', i.e. water?
LT

What I wanna know is, why was Satanik added to the team, that was pretty useless.
It would be one thing if he posted here, or if the Liquid members still played, aside from Drone.
Inquiring minds want to know.

1. meat created it, presumably on the 22nd of september, 2002. Though, this isn't teamliquid's first site. They had some strange monkey URL to begin with (i wasnt around long enough to go into more details) i believe
2. the members of the forum voted for the domain to use. teamliquid.net was the most popular of the options available
3. no one knows

#3 Is because I think Nazgul liked the picture? It was free form but it solidified and was strong like horse!

1) TL is the best, but not the oldest. SCLegacy, BW.com and many others were around before this. Liquid`Meat was the original webmaster, but Liquid was a clan with many good players in it, most notably Liquid`Nazgul.
2) It is Team Liquid because the team was called Liquid...
3) You have to go through a long initiation before you learn that secret.

Eh, the picture is from the scene in Lord of The Rings (at least it's in the book), when Frodo is riding on that horse towards Rivendell, being chased by the ringwraiths. And then when he's across the river and the wraiths are about to follow, Gandalf/Elrond make it rise and wash them away, in the shape of a bunch of white horses.. (ie the water rises and visual illusion or something made it look like white horses)
Yeah, something like that.

Wow... didn't know some of that. In fact I had just thought about making a thread about this but noooo, LibertyTerran just had to steal my thunder. Thanks though .
|
i guess the picture was there long before the lord of the rings movie... but frankly it reminds that scene in the book...

Yeah, pretty cool to learn the history of your fav site/forum. Respect to the great team here. About the horses, in the movie, wasn't the female elf (cant remember her name tho) the one who took Frodo all the way to cure his injury? And she was the one who spelled da shit out of those mofo darklords ?

Yeah, in the movie it was Arwen that did that, dunno about the books though.

it has to do with the 9 nazguls, their horses and the river, right?

It was DEFINITELY gandalf/elrond who did the thing with the river
Trust me, I read those books 7 times each before I turned 12 (then never read them again).

ZOMG TEH ILLITERATES? I thought reading LOTR was obligatory in the english / american schools. Guess I'm wrong, but it still surprises me that people haven't read one of the most remarkable works in literature. (Not the best, but certainly one of the most remarkable)

In the book it was just some one-shot male elf who took Frodo to safety... Glorfindel
apparently he did more outside the main LOTR storyline... including prophesize that the witch-king (Nazgul leader) would get owned sometime

as far as i know, in the book (which is more important than the movie), Frodo was saved by Elrond, but, in the movie, his part was given to Arwen (you know, the producers had to put her on something cause she was Liz Tyler and was getting a lot of $$ , although, her part in the book is pretty much meaningless).
SS of the horse part (sorry the shitty quality, i SS'ed them from my iPod version):

I think i see nazgul in that pic

Yeah, you are right. I think elrond did it, at least he's the one who casted the enchantement on the river. And wtf 7 times ? I read them 2 time and that a lot I think.

I like how we TLnetters care a lot about our fav site
Cheers!

But in the book it was gandalf and that male elf who isn't even in the movies whose name starts with G (can't remember it) who were on the other side of the river. IIRC, the nazgul couldn't pass into rivendell, so the stream fucked their couch, and gandalf just added the horses because hes fuckin gandalf, and he can do that.
And seeing as Nazgul's name is also from that movie (hell, from that SCENE), i'd say its pretty accurate (its what I thought of the first time I saw the banner too).

EDIT: Ah, someone already mentioned that
