AfreecaTV has had a few hiccups (had required flash, frequent lag, spoilers on thumbnails), but it also constantly improves. That they provide English translations and casts speaks volumes about their dedication to the game, esp when you realize some of the top players aren't aware of any BW popularity (fan popularity) outside Korea. Twitch right now, pales in comparison. That's really good to hear, I sort of ditched trying to watch Afreeca streams directly a year or two ago, but maybe it's worth giving it a shot again

of course everybody like afreeca for the service they provide but the fact they forbid their top players to play on KSL is the dumbest move ever. It's ridiculous, as if they are going to lose anything.

Bad for them, good for us, then prolly also bad for us. They'd probably pick YT anyway. If Afreeca crashes, you can say goodbye to the Korean BW scene. Afreeca has been extremely important for helping keeping things going. Early on, a lot of the expros streamed on Afreeca than we got SSL etc... These pros barely get viewers on twitch, but they get lots on Afreeca and it makes sense when you consider BW's popularity.

@Highgamer: Afreeca crashing would be the biggest blow to BW since the Kespa SC2 switch. Compared to that, the Sonic scandal was nothing. Afreeca is a big part of why BW was able to survive when everyone went to SC2 and they even stepped in to run a Starleague when we lost SSL. Most eSports nowadays would collapse if the devs pulled out, but thanks to Afreeca BW would be just fine if Blizz dropped KSL. I highly doubt Youtube or Twitch would give the same support to BW that Afreeca is...
Ye I know... You did read my second sentence, especially the part in front of the " " ? Maybe too subtle...

This discussion of AfreecaTV reminds me of a question I've had since I got into BW. How do the BJ contracts work, specifically relating to streamers on other platforms? Probably the main reason I'm a Last fan is he was streaming on Twitch when I got interested in BW.
[funny story, was experimenting with my newly built kodi device and the twitch plugin, checked out BW, and decided to watch what looked HS aged player. I'm thinking to myself, "he's pretty good..." soon afterword, I discover he's 24 (at the time), and easily in the top 10 worldwide]
Anyway, I remember Last having several chat sources, Twitch and Afreeca among them back then. Months later, he abandoned Twitch for Afreeca full time. I assume this was a financial choice. Why would he have been on Twitch at all, though?

AfreecaTV litterly is the savior of post kespa bw its such a strong platform&sponsor or like the CEO of afreecaTV saying he loves to play broodwar just amazing
i was thrilled when afreeca stept in after sonic SSL

you have to admire Afreeca's CEO's passion. Pretty sure ASL runs at a loss that most other people in this position would have just cut off.

Why would he have been on Twitch at all, though? not really sure about twitch but for afreeca the commissions get scaled down from 40/30/20, in order of normal bj, best bj and partner bj. partner bjs are the only ones with exclusivity contracts however. if i had to wager a guess about last it would be that he chose twitch because the stigma around afreeca in korea for a long time was that it was "unclean". afreeca now and afreeca 10-15 years ago is indescribably different. however if youre a starcraft bj and you plan on engaging with the rest of the sc community, you cant really stay on twitch when everything is on afreeca. also afreeca streamers are known to identify as being part of the larger afreeca community and therefore there is a lot of activity/events and communications between streamers even if they arent part of the same genre. twitch streamers seem to do their own thing or at most associate with streamers who stream the same thing as themselves.

there may be some truth to the idea that afreeca contracted players were forbidden to play in KSL, but there is also the simple fact that they can't restream twitch stuff on afreeca meaning less money in it for them which also means less exposure, plenty of people during ASL don't watch the official stream but rather their favorite streamer doing commentary over a restream instead, can't do that with twitch.
simply put, the players in KSL are players who want to be in the KSL.

hi all
just wanted to know:
is there a certain map or a mod where you can test unit engagements and stuff, like an specific army vs another army

Which bears the question: Why does Blizzard insist on partnering with Twitch for KSL, when everything Korean BW related happens on Afreeca?

Or maybe due to Blizz being a US company and Afreeca QOS in US is kinda rough? Afreeca is good to it's broadcasters, but that doesn't mean it's good for everything else. It's not like blizz is going to make a ton of money on balloons, which is what draws broadcasters to Afreeca.

Beside business, having the opportunity to show the success of the game to the entire world is a sentiment I'm very familiar with and it's the reason why beside all the upsides I still don't like Afreeca due to the isolation that it brings to the scene which is absolutely weird for a 2019 free democratic country.

Does anybody know where you could get information about previous seasons of the angel hidi clan league? I only know there's season 4 on Liquipedia

Didnt Blizzard demand a shitload of money from Afreeca if they wanted to keep having ASL? About right before the first KSL launched? Maby they want to 'get back at blizzard by not allowing their best players to participate. This is obviously pure specelation.

@Antihack afreeca just pulled ASL from twitch because twitch didnt want to spend a cent on BW.

Anyone know where I can find what music they're playing during the breaks in KSL? I'm watching the KSL season 4 qualifiers now, its got some really good kick ass music :D

How did we managed to be more than the Koreans for the whole stream and peak to 7000 in today KSL?
P.s. Today stream was so funny! Thank you Tastosis! Big love <3

Have anyone noticed how big BW is on YouTube? I mean even just live viewers it's around 7k right now (checked, no Afreeca overlap), but on vod viewers is where it really blows up with hundreds of thousand of views per video.
For example, fbh looks small on twitch but he's really big on youtube.
Meanwhile on Twitch............
Edit: Shoutout to FalconPaladin streaming BW on youtube :D Big fan of you Falcon!
Edit2: 12k live viewers on Youtube right now, this is ridiculous https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCkeZMocgb7uHpndXTYWWqAw/live

Started playing some BW again. Where does one go to find nonladder games?
It seems theres a disproportioate number of Protoss at the introductory ladder levels ~1700
