Terran also has a similar problem with comstat making mining worse. Broken is completely the wrong word for it though. You could look at a two player map with such an issue and see if there is any startling statistic of one side of the map winning much more often than the other. There have also always long been discussions about whether it is easier to spawn at the top or the bottom of the map, as in is it easier to move your army upward or downward. The intuitive answer is that there are 100 small victories that make up a complete win, so even if you are awarded 1 or 2 out of 100 by luck, you can't win by just that. Things like build order advantage can be worth much more, or just whether or not you were looking in the right place at the right time to react optimally to an attack. Scouting direction too is just luck. Shooting up a hill can be quite random and annoying. Playing from a disadvantage is somewhat unavoidable in StarCraft, it's going to happen sometimes. The skill of the game is how well you can make up for that disadvantage, and the fairness of StarCraft is that even in the same game bad luck can be spread between the two players, and certainly over a career things even out. No one can get to a final just on build order wins alone, even if it helps against a tough opponent. But real talk ZvZ build order disadvantage is pretty brutal and is genuinely just a bad part of StarCraft even though once upon a time we had JvZ. At a certain point pros are all selecting their BO with the same optimal mixed strategy and it just sucks that it is so hard to make up the difference when you roll badly. It is something that makes me wish we had separate maps for ZvZ and PvP just to see if we could fix those matchups, even if the maps would be unplayable for any other match up. It's not like we have to account for Random in pro matches. | ||
