Okay... I'm not sure if anyone has made a topic to discuss it because but i think this is really important to me as it seems i really suck in late game at zerg before of my fingers. Let me get it straight ... i'll start by calling thumb finger as the 5th ok? so you guys know whenever i say 1st finger 2nd finger and etc because i simply don't know all their names lol...
ok.. when i play ... i use only my 4th finger to press the keyboard.. yes you're right only 1 finger?! people always ask HOW THE FUCK can you actually play by using 1 finger? Honestly, I don't know.. even when i type.. only 1 finger on my left hand is doing the job.. the reason i made this thread is to learn from others.... i'll basically explain how i press when i play..
when i attack:
1a2a3a4a(all 4th finger)
when i build 4sz5sz6sz(all jobs done by 4th finger) yes.. i starting to have problem when i press 7sz8sz simply because the keys are too far away..
i know most ppl play with 2 fingers or 3... i really need to change this habit.... i'll show you whats my problem in late game when my fingers fucked me up

I use every finger on my left hand
for 1a2a3a4a5a6a7a I start out with middle+ring on 1a2a then index+ring for 3a4a5a and index+pinky for 6a7a
stuff like
4sh5sh6sh7sh is middle+ring+index
4sz5sz is middle+ring+pinky, if I go 6sz I end up pressing 6 with index instead.
thumb mostly just used for space
hotkey units/buildings with pinky+number

ive got a vod of Xellos keyboard view while he plays
he uses all 4 fingers every second and his pinky to press Ctrl

i guess my problem is because i didn't learn how to type when i was young i just started it naturally .. did anyone of you have the similiar problem previously and have corrected it?

Well... if thumb = 1st finger, then it's thumb, index finger, middle finger, ring finger, and pinky

Yeah that's about what I figured you meant... that's just wierd. I've never heard of one hand being able to type, and the other not.

hehe it's not that i cant.. it's just that i'm used to it or you can call it a habit? i didn't learn how to type when i started to use computers.. i just learnt it myself naturally.. so im trying to ask others how they play and i try to follow their way etc etc...
btw, is it only me or the ring fingers are extremely "hard" to use.. they don't function like other fingers...

Yeah, I know what you mean. I guess the only way is to force yourself to use other fingers... probably going to feel wierd at first if you're really used to using only one. Good luck with that. ^_^

i dont use my 2nd finger...
i use the little finger for controling ctrl key ... my 3rd finger is the number key finger, my 4th finger is the action key finger (sometimes not for keys like 'a' because 1a is a lot shorter with 3rd finger then 3rd finger / 4th finger combo...) and for keys like p or ctrl 8,9,0 i use my 5th finger (thumb)
so i dont use my 2nd finger cause it sucks 
i have no feeling in this finger and never use it for anything. if i have to decide which finger somebody should cut away from my hand i would take this one -,-
only usage is for rings (ring finger) but i wear no jewelry and i won't marry any time cause living for the day rocks

in Turkey City Konya .there is a internet café called STARCRAFT
the owner of this int café plays 2v2 all day long he has 5-6 accounts total over 10000 matches
his age is over 30 .he doesnt watch reps . so he plays freestyle . he has avg 100 apm
now it commes he has only 1 arm the right one . no left arm . he plays so fast i wonder everytime . cuz i make only 130 avg apm with 2 arms .

yea i use all fingers, pinky for ctrl and thumb for space. normally listen to the units saying some shit then space to go there...

100apm with one hand isn't really that fast at all, i could probably get 140 with mouse only, and + 100 if i use both hands.. as your speed develops you notice 200apm + isn't really that fast at all..

Well, when I play, I use all my fingers, wheter is to macro units, or to move units or anything, I have one problem though, I can't use my thumb for shit, since my hand is kind of small, it is kind of hard for me to use it, but I have got used to play without it so, it is ok ;p.
1a with ring finger (yes the 1 and a)
2a3a4a with midle+ring
5a6a7a8a9a0a with index and pinky.
Setting control groups, depends on the number, but it always with pinky+some finger. ;P

practice typing properly first learn how to use fingers like your ring finger. not only will your words per minute go up drastically, but you will also be able to translate this speed to hotkeying.
in case you don't know how just google "how to type" or something along those lines.

Like you dude. Only 4th on keyboard. My APM is like 90-100. Once I can perfectly know the keyboard without looking, might just try other fingers ^^

strangely i don't use my pinky finger for hotkeys, I only use it when i type.
I highly suggest everyone else to do the same. The pinky finger is not designed to be durable, it cannot handle the rigorous apm spam that other fingers are capable of (unless you are a low 30 apm user like CTStalker).

Its best to use all fingers for typing speed if you can, so I think it makes the most sense to use all fingers for sc too.
Somewhat intresting how many people dont use thumb. Pinkey i can understand because its a weaker finger and people dont want to go though the trouble of using it in the first place. If done well using thumb for "a" certainly seems faster then usign another finger for a, as it frees up fingers and seems more convient for hand shape. Also thumb for "ctrl" makes more sense to me as one's hand remains slanted toward the screen, not away like ctrl does.

thumb for ctrl? only if you are left handed. pinky can be used for crtl with much more speed + gosuness

erm the only way using thumb for "a" makes any kind of sense at all is if you're using the left hand on your mouse. which is normally only done by left handed people. (and naz. )

Here are my playing style:
I use 1234567 for hatcherys and 09876 for units. In early game I use F2 and F3 on my two minerals lines so if someone do a reaver drop I could fast take my drones from danger. F4 are for there I have my rally point. Late game I have them on my exps that dont have any hotkey
I use all fingers on my left hand when I play. In the beging I had an start postion so it sould be easier to find all buttons. Pinky on Q, ring on W, middle E, index on R and thumb on B. I also taked away two buttons between Right Ctrl and Alt Gr, I lay my thumb in that space and then it is really easy to find 09876 with my fingers.
If we say that I have two modes then I plays we could say that then I use hotkeys 1234567 it is macro mode and 09876 are micro mode.
In macro mode pinky are for the button over Ctrl (dont know what it is called)
Ring finger are for 1 Q A and W.
Middel finger are for E S Z and 2.
Index finger are for R F G H N U M I 3 4 5 6 and 7.
Thumb are for B V and C
I press on Ctrl with my left side of my left hand
In micro mode
Pinky are for 5 6 7 U and H.
Ring finger are for 8 and I
Middel finger are for 9
Index finger are for 0 P and L
Thumb for Ctrl.
Before I hurt my hands I had an APM on 190 to 240

I am a zerg user as well but I use all of my left hand for hotkeys. I'll explain my hotkeys first
1 = pinky 2 = ring 3 = middle 4 = ring 5 = thumb
Beginning game:
1 = overlord (first finger) 2 = drone building about to hatch (second finger) 5 = hatch (4th finger)
Later in the game:
1 2 3 4 = units (1st 2nd 3rd 4th fingers)
5 - 0 = hatches (all 4th fingers)
however when i build as in 5sz6sz7sz8sz9sz0sz i use 4th finger for hatch, second finger for s, first finger for z. This differs from mutas /hydras however I use my 4th finger for both hatch and the m/h because obviously my pinky isn't going to reach that far.
My thumb i rarely ever use for spacebar, as we do have the f2 f3 f4 keys for macroing and my rally collection. Mmm I am a 350 apm user and I cannot imagine you using one hand and getting more than 80 apm.

I welcome everyone to try this:
First rest on 1-2-3 with ring-middle-index.
1) go 1a2a3a4a5a6a, using thumb for a
2) go 1a2a3a4a5a6a, using ring for a.
I think its clear which is faster as long as you lift your wrist off of the desk past the hight of the keyboard.
Try this as well:
1) 1a2a3a, then ctrl with pinkey or pinky join+123
2) 1a2a3a, then ctrl with thumb joint+123
Again, its clear which is fastest as long as your wrist is lifted up high enough.
So, I'm guessing its the lifting your wrist up thing that many of you guys dont do. Sure, using pinkey for ctrl and finger for a makes more sense if you keep wrist down. But, does keeping your wrist down make more sense?
edit- assuing your thumb is not a fat immoible sausage. :p

Omg...this gonna be hard to explain..here we go.
At attack: Finger 2 at 1,A. Finger 3 AND Finger 2 at A. Finger 3 at 3 AND Finger 2 at A. Then...Finger 4 at 4 and finger 2 at A. Same to 5A. But after that I move the hand so Finger 4 is at 6 then finger 1 moves from Shift to A. and it goes up..

It really doesn't really matter what fingers you use to attack as long as it's the MOST effective for you. but some of these here are not as effective but i'm not going to say anything =). the most effective for me and the fastest would probably be (oh and i'm a terran user):
1a: pinky/ring
2a: pinky/ring
3a: pinky/ring
4a: pinky/middle
5a: pinky/index
6a: pinky/index
7a: pinky/index
8a: pinky/index
9a: pinky/index
0a: pinky/index
ctrl 1: palm/ring
ctrl 2: palm/middle
ctrl 3: palm/index
ctrl 4: palm/index
ctrl 5: palm/index
ctrl 6: palm/index
ctrl 7: pinky/thumb
ctrl 8: pinky/thumb
ctrl 9: pinky/thumb
ctrl 0: pinky/right hand
*Oh and remember to tilt your keyboard more on the left side up so that it's even more faster and easier to press the keys.

I almost always use my ring finger to hit a and my other fingers cycle through the numbers. I never use my left pinky though.

I do the same thing as you Ash. I use my "forth finger" which is your index finger for 1a2a3a4a5a. Usually I don't need to go beyond 6a so that works fine. You need to use other fingers though if you want to do like 0sz9sz8sz7sz.

I use my thumb very little, but the other 4 get used. I think I do it different from some in that I keep my hand very stationary, only moving it when I absolutely have to. Pinky generally stays on left-ctrl the whole time.
