Elky was far cooler, I say this mainly because he's the reason I discovered starcraft, looking at his war3 replays back when the game was in it's infancy.

afaik you don't need tft to play (3.7 or 4.1 are the most popular, aren't they?) =p

I remember an old vod too vs goodfriend for the "about starcraft" TV show. GiYom raped him with the most disgusting carrier gayness ever on LT. I'm surprised GF didn't switch to zerg after this game, I would've eaten my comp.

Back in the days he was famous for his deadly reaver and carrier control.

He stopped playing because he didn't enjoy the game anymore. Look in the articles section, there's an interview of him.

Grrrr... was the only foreigner to be a real SC/BW pro gamer. Actually Grrrr... was the first real BIG pro gamer, after boxer took his place..

He's not death.. not yet..

Actually i think he didnt quit Bw because of poker. He just hadnt the will to train as much as he had to, in order to keep up with the new generation of gamers..

In the 'World Cyber Games' National Geographic show, Grrrr shows around his appartment in Korea, and talks about SC (how amazingly good players have become these days) and Poker (he's a total Poker slave), he has really huge posters of his old SC days on the walls, of him and Elky and Korean progamers, very nice.

Giyom quit because he started to get into the Korean night life... a lot. He started to not practice as much as other Korean pros, who pracitced all day every day. Then he got into poker, and then just couldn't keep up, leading to his retire.

Yeah I agree, he is one of the best player ever cuz of his brain, he invented a lot of techs, he symbolises protoss as boxer do for terran. He was the best for more than 2 years (even there were no kespa rankings back then) and he's been the first real pro in korea.

Well of course boxer is the best player ever just because of his longetivity as you say, but IMO grrr... contributed a lot more to the game than a garimto or a yellow even though they were and still are (at least for yellow) monsters, but their playstyle was not as smart as grrr...'s one

heh....

well actually last week i got bored and googled "guillaume patry" and found that hes been programming/computer related work. I found him on a bunch of news groups asking for help with SQL and crap. This was his original intent.. he had no inclination to become a progamer. it just happened and he kind of got carried away with it. Hell if i was in his shoes, id do what he did 100 times over. I thought it was pretty brave of him to say "im not good enough" and leave sc/bw.

grrrr is still the man.

I'd like to see the day when boxer or yellow quits without saying "IM NOT GOOD ENOUGH" or "IMBAL".

How do you compare YellOw unfavourably to Grrrr... in terms of innovation? YellOw basically invented Zerg as it stands >> Whereas GiYom borrowed a lot off of Garimto.

Giyom was pre, contemporary and played on after garimto left - but he had the majority of his success BEFORE garimto.. so I dunno?

How did Yellow invent Z standards? Back in the day he played more in line with how Zergs generally played, and now he plays like most Zergs do now. Like most players he favors certain things and he happens to be one of the top Zergs. BUT I dont see how he "invented Zerg as it stands." There are so many other top(Pro and amateurs) who have contributed along the way. Just because you see something from Yellow first doesnt really mean he invented it. I think people do this a lot with Boxer too(Though he is more deserving of the credit for creating certain strats and styles).

and im a huge yellow fanboy. I just think your shit is wronnnng.

oO mmkay, 'parently I'm wrong on the Garimto/Giyom thing. Before my time, sorry 'bout that. Mildly amused by the five people jumping down my throat on it XD

YellOw's storm zerg style isn't entirely his own, true, but he made it popular. July claims him as major influence, he has Yellow[Name] copying him, and for the longest time he was the Hope of Zerg, so I'd consider him at least a the greatest catalyst of modern zerg, if not the inventor.

Sure he was but he came out after Grrrr's time and was a hundred time more skilled, Grrr won all his games cuz of his brain more than his skill. If you speak in term of skill grrr would just be an average player today with the lvl he had while garimto was so fucking skilled even 4 years ago, Grrrr... was weaker than a lot of koreans but was from far smarter than them. He understood very well the game more than garimto imho

But you are right FA garimto invented a lot of new techs and was sooooo skilled, that makes him the best toss player ever in term of level but in term of inovation grrr is #1 ^^

Yeah I agree, he is one of the best player ever cuz of his brain, he invented a lot of techs, he symbolises protoss as boxer do for terran. He was the best for more than 2 years (even there were no kespa rankings back then) and he's been the first real pro in korea.

grrr... has never been known to be creative with protoss...most of his games consisted of abusing the crap out of the reaver drop
Get it by your hands...

Well since he was the very first one to win with reav//carrier especially against terrans, he was creative =]

+ He used to make reavers in almost every game he played whatever the match up was, no one made that before him, or i should say no one WON with that before him. So he was definitly SUPER creative !

What the hell are you rambling about? Giyom was bar none the best (as in most skilled) Starcraft player in the world for years. It had nothing to do with him apparently making up for some sort of illusory "talent deficit" with his "superior brain power".

Jesus christ you kids are newbs.

The implication is that being skillful has nothing to do with your brain. That is utterly moronic.

Grrrr... was eaten by a tiger. Oh the irony...

He will be missed by many korean girls and BW gamers.
I wouldn´t call him stupid, but let´s just say he´s unlucky when thinking...
