This is it, qualifiers are over. 24 players have fought to earn their place in the TeamLiquid Legacy Starleague, and now they must saddle up and prepare for battle. With the last of the qualifiers finishing last week, the full list has caramelized, between the 12 players who earned spots directly from making the finals and the final 12 who earned it through consistent performance across all tournaments.

Our final pair of events saw old favorites G5 and Pro7ect come out on top, with Dewalt and Ramms fresh on their heals to snag the remaining spots. Now it's time to sit back and reflect on who will be in, study their games and prepare for what is to come. We take a look at each qualifier, and see who performed best and how they did it. We talk to the winners, and listen to their goals and aspirations for this lofty event going forward. We even take a special look at Ramms vs Zepish to see how players fare when facing adversity.

And now we wait. Later in the week we will reveal the full groups as well as who will play in the first broadcast, which will start this Saturday. The TLS is nearly upon, gear up and get ready.

Qualifier Recap
By: Poetic & Kiante

Qualifier #5

The last four TLS qualifiers saw a total of six Zerg players, one Protoss and one Terran player qualified. As Elegant said, so far it has been “all about the Zerg,” but there were some strong players in Qualifier Five who were looking to change that.

Zerg players Naugrim and Pike continued to do well, while 'Gym-Bag' Jim-Raynor also made another strong run, beating fellow Zerg player Flip on his way to the round of sixteen. He was beaten there by fan favorite old-school player Liquid`Drone, who collected more points.

There were some upsets as Terran/Protoss powerhouse Ramms was stopped by Zepish in the round of 32, while the mighty Terran Pro7ect was defeated early by Arcneon. Strong player LRM)Dragon once again failed to make significant progress, and Voddy was unable to continue his point-accruing spree, losing early on in a ZvP.

Despite the fact that a number of strong Zergs had been knocked out or had already qualified, the Zerg race in the foreigner scene has strength in depth. Napoleon and Zergboy both made it to the semifinals, where they would meet Protosses G5 and Dewalt. Would the reign of Zerg finally be over?

Semi-final 1 - G5 vs Zergboy

The first semi-final saw Zergboy meet old-timer G5. G5 was a top-level foreigner player between 2005-2010. He represented the USA three times at WCG, where he was able to take a win against none other than the Emperor himself. It’s no wonder that so many people were curious to see what level of play he would be able to produce.

Game 1

In the first game on Jade, the players opened with a twelve hatch vs forge fast expand. G5 made his probe annoying in Zergboy's natural, blocking the hatchery with a pylon and forcing Zergboy to wait for zerglings before he could expand. This forced Zergboy to take his third base, and G5 reacted by placing cannons behind the minerals. Unfortunately the cannons finished seconds before the hatchery, so that it could be cancelled without much loss.

Without a third base, Zergboy decided to go for an all-in three-hatch hatch bust. This was well anticipated by G5, who made two extra cannons and looked set to deflect it. At this point, G5 decided to make more gateways instead of playing safe, planning to overwhelm the hydralisks with speed zealots.

This was to prove a crucial misjudgement as the hydralisks busted into his natural before there were any extra zealots. G5 was able to defend with a round of zealots, but lost a large number of probes. This bought him a little time, but he was sufficiently weakened that waves of hydralisks soon drowned him, and he was forced to ggg(with an extra g for luck).

Game 2

The second game was a nine pool from the Zerg versus a forge fast expand. Unusually, G5 chose to send out an early probe to mine out the minerals outside Zergboy's temples, suggesting that he wanted to use this as an alternative route into the Zerg main later on. He then launched an early zealot/archon attack, which attempted to break through the temples using the archon splash damage, but was held off by mass hydralisks.

G5 looked like he was in trouble, as Zergboy counter attacked while taking a fourth base. The hydralisks were able to push right into the natural, but despite not yet having storm G5 chose the perfect moment to rush out and crush the attack.

This victory was decisive, as his forces were then able to batter their way through the Zerg natural with some devastating storms to take even the series at 1-1.

Game 3

Game three started with an aggressive nine pool speed against a two gate. G5 pushed out with three zealots to block Zerg's ramp, while Zergboy took advantage of their absence to run into the main with his six lings. This led to an intense period of micro in the Protoss base, during which the lings killed several probes. However, to break through to his own natural Zergboy was forced to build a swell of zerglings, which left him in a weak economic position. G5's next push with zealots and dragoons came before Zergboy's burrow research could finish. G5 did not hesitate to move into the Zerg main and kept rallying speed-zealots across the map to win the series 2-1.

Semi-final Number 2 - Dewalt vs Napoleon

Game 1

After standard openings, Dewalt went for an impeccably-timed dragoon-reaver push towards the Zerg third base. This was moderately successful at first, but a constant stream of hydralisks overwhelmed it and Dewalt lost the majority of his expensive army. Dewalt clung tenaciously onto his third base, but his repeated attempts to attack were deflected, while Napoleon took a huge number of bases. Dewalt was unable to establish any lasting map control and was eventually forced to gg by Napoleon's massive numbers of ultralisks, zerglings, and defilers.

Game 2

In the second game Napoleon went for quick lurkers to contain Dewalt while he took a third gas base. Dewalt was not thrown off by this, and patiently built up a strong army while performing some effective zealot harass. When he was ready, he pushed out with a powerful dragoon/high templar army with zealot support. He was able to take a great position in the crucial battle to crush the Zerg army and even up the series.

Game 3

The final game started off with an aggressive one-gateway opening from Dewalt. This caused Napoleon some real difficulty by taking good positions behind the minerals and harassing his drones. Meanwhile, Dewalt expanded, giving himself a strong economic position. Napoleon had some trickery of his own, allowing Dewalt to see his second gas and then cancelling it, suggesting that he was planning mutalisks.

We then saw another protoss timing attack as Dewalt sent a force of speed-zealots to Napoleon's third base. However, he was equal to this and deflected the attack with zerglings and some nice drone drilling. Napoleon's counterattack forced a lot of extra cannons and killed a number of probes as Dewalt held on. Meanwhile, a shuttle dropped dark templar in the main so that, while the attention of the Zerg was elsewhere, thirteen drones were killed.

Dewalt's further attempts to harass were shut down, and Napoleon decided to be greedy and taking a fifth base. Dewalt's third base was extremely delayed, and he decided to rely on a strong dragoon/zealot/high templar attack. This force established a nice position outside the Zerg third and managed to obliterate the hydralisk-heavy army. After this setback, Napoleon had no answer to Dewalt's relentless pressure and, although he fought on for a little while longer, he had to surrender.

The final was therefore a PvP between Dewalt and G5. No Zergs!

Final - Dewalt vs G5

Game 1

In the first game, both players scouted across the map to check if an early zealot would be a good idea. However, due to G5's building placement Dewalt missed G5's base with his scout, while G5 found Dewalt in the cross-map position. Dewalt then went for a dark templar opening, while G5 chose to go for a three-gate dragoon attack.

Initially, it looked like G5's lack of detection would cost him the game, as a dark templar entered his base a long time before he would have an observer. However, Dewalt did not block the ramp into his main with a templar, and so G5's large dragoon force was able to enter Dewalt's base.

Eventually, observers arrived for G5, while a single DT was finally able to finish off the dragoons in Dewalt's main. When the dust had settled, we were left with nine supply against seventeen in favour of G5, although Dewalt had an expansion protected by a shield battery. G5 took a minute to build up a small force before charging Dewalt's natural. In a tense battle, the superior army count for G5 was too much to handle. GG.

Game 2

In the second game, the players again spawned in cross-positions. Dewalt attempted to proxy gateways, but he appeared to be unfamiliar with the map and found himself unable to place them. Instead, he built four gateways in his main, which looked like it might be effective against G5's two-gate robo build. In a tense battle outside G5's natural, the first reaver exploded, but the second arrived just in time to force Dewalt to pull back.

Both players then expanded. As he had no reaver tech, Dewalt chose to tech straight for speed zealots and storm, while G5 built up a huge dragoon army backed by 4 reavers. G5 pushed across the map with his reavers before storm was available and forced an engagement close to Dewalt's natural. The reavers were well-microed and proved deadly against Dewalt's army.

G5 broke through to seize victory in Qualifier Five!

Qualifier #6

The story of qualifier #6 was undoubtedly Pro7ect. With his lackluster performance in the fifth qualifier he was forced into the position of making it to the finals, or being completely unable to qualify, and from the get go he didn't disappoint. He tore his way through the top of the bracket, taking out qualifier regulars like Jonoman92, BioboyAT and Cryoc with ease. He earned his semi-final berth with an exciting two zero victory over SJ.flip with some strong solid play mixed with fantastic positional and drop play to work his way out of a sticky situation.

Much in the same boat as Pro7ect, but with some initial points to give him leeway in terms of qualification, LRM)Infected had a somewhat easier path to the semi finals, even grabbing a walkover in what would have been a close matchup against Radley in the quarter finals. Nemu, the third semi finalist on the other side of the bracket found himself with on a rocky road, hitting Pass in the Ro128, as well as Dashwriter and Voddy in the later rounds. Finally Ramms rounded out the semi final group with a less intense path, but equally as convincing, to set up a refreshingly Terran heavy lineup.

Semifinal 1 - Pro7ect vs Infected

The first Semi Final featured Pro7ect, who needed to win the series to qualify, against Infected, who was almost guaranteed a place based on his point score, but would benefit greatly from the increased seed he would gain if he was able to take Pro7ect out. The first game didn't disappoint, with Pro7ect coming out with a bit of a disadvantage and despite some incredible play he was unable to stop Infected, who slowly ground him down until Pro7ect was forced to get out of the game. Despite losing the audacity that Pro7ect showed holding on for as long as he did seemed to affect Infected in the coming games.

Pro7ect chose to use a mech based strategy in the second game on Electric circuit, which seemed to throw Infected off, and with a decisive push after his three base economy was up and running he was able to inflict a bit of damage that set Infected back in the game. Utilizing his advantage Pro7ect mustered up a second push with a much heavier tank count and after some exciting back and forth play the push finally broke through and took out Infected’s main. After a small delay with Infected trying to hold on he finally broke down and tapped out, evening up the series at one game all.

The final game of the series was played on Fighting Spirit, a map which doesn't favor a mech style as much as the previous map, and Pro7ect returned to a more conventional style, playing incredibly safe and managing to hold off Infected’s attempted muta/ling runby with ease. He was then able to counter attack and take out the third base of Infected. After suffering such a disadvantage in the early midgame Pro7ect wasn’t about to let Infected get his footing, and despite some attempted counter attacks, nothing Infected tried would work and finally Pro7ect was able to push into the Zerg main and take the series two to one.

Semifinal 2 - Nemu vs Ramms

The second semi final featured the race picker Nemu against the other Russian Terran in the Ro4, Ramms. The first game Nemu picked protoss and went ahead and dropped a Nexus on 12 supply. Ramms was able to scout the nexus as it was completing and decided to pull SCV’s and bunker rush even though it would be later than a normal timing against a 12 nex. He managed to kill a fair few probes in the attack and waste a lot of Nemu’s time but eventually was repelled, giving Nemu a slight advantage. Nemu scouted Ramms’ third base and decided to go in for an attack up the large ramp on Jade, which didn't do as much damage as he probably expected, leaving him on even bases with the Terran player and a fairly low probe count though he was able to delay Ramms’ third base further. Nemu then attempted to build up for a secondary attack which was delayed by some smart drops from Ramms’ and eventually failed, after which Ramms’ was able to finish off the game.

The second game, on Electric Circuit featured Nemu choosing to play zerg and he was put into a rough position early on, losing three of his first pack of mutalisks for free and building an excessive amount of sunken colonies. He attempted to harass in Ramms’ main and was completely denied and Ramms’ decided to just end the game with a quick attack before Nemu could morph lurkers, granting Ramms’ victory in the series two games to zero.

Final - Ramms vs Pro7ect

The grand final featured Pro7ect against Ramms, with Ramms picking Protoss to try and avoid TvT as is so common in foreigner Terran matchups. Regardless of the winner of the game the ro24 was guaranteed to be slightly less Zerg filled with two Terrans making it in. The first game featured Ramms attempting to do some early goon pressure but being denied by Pro7ect’s impeccable defense. Ramms then attempted to rush for Arbiters to try and defend Pro7ect’s incoming push but he was unable to get the arbiter out before Pro7ect’s metal ball of death encroached too close to his natural expansion and Ramms was forced to call gg.

The second game featured a single proxy gateway from Ramms in an attempt to get some early damage done with zealots, and despite killing a few marines and SCV’s Pro7ect was able to hold off the attack and stabilize, dropping two factories of his own while pretending to be safely expanding with a bunker in front of his natural. When the push came out Pro7ect’s forces were a little too much, with Ramms being a touch greedy and being punished for it. Pro7ect’s tanks were able to sit between Ramms’ natural and main uncontested and despite some useful emergency dark templar, Pro7ect was able to hold his position and force Ramms to gg, meaning that Pro7ect was the winner of the final TLS qualifier.

Battle Report
By: nbaker

During Qualifier Five, the Russian Terran, Ramms, and the Canadian Protoss, Zepish, met in the round of 32 on Electric Circuit. Both players opted for fairly conservative openings. Zepish started his cybernetics core before getting his first zealot, because the zealot would be unable to deny scouting in the absence of a ramp between the main and natural, then followed it up with goon range and a nexus. Ramms, meanwhile, decided to take advantage of the map’s flatness by opening with a fake double. When his tank finished, the Terran moved out of his main, pushing through the small strike force Zepish had placed at his natural, and chasing the zealot and pair of dragoons back to the Protoss natural. There the reinforcing dragoons put a halt to Ramms’s offensive. Zepish killed the marines, but the reinforcing vultures with mines provided adequate protection for Ramms to save his tank and return to his natural.
By positioning his units outside of Ramms’s natural, Zepish slowed the Terran attack, allowing more reinforcements to get out before Ramms reached his natural.

As he shored up his defenses at home with mines and siege tech, Ramms took a fast third command center, hoping to defend through the early mid game and move out with a strong timing attack this economic advantage would afford him.

Ramms figured defending three bases wouldn’t be much more than two on Electric Circuit, so he expanded quickly. Little did he know…

Zepish, however, had other plans, getting a robotics facility and templar archives at his back expansion.

In addition to being hidden, Zepish’s robo placement put him closer to Ramms’s natural at these positions, a critical time advantage given the closeness of the Terran’s engineering bay timing.
These units, used in a two-sided counterattack against Drone's forces, compounded with Drone's lack of reinforcement for those units while harassing the natural, led to the destruction of the second Protoss push.

Protoss so dirty.
Ramms’s engineering bay was just finishing when Zepish’s shuttle arrived at his natural, dropping undetectable dark templar that wasted no time in carving through a pair of tanks and into both of Ramms’s mineral lines.

To Ramms’s credit, he kept his cool, erecting turrets spaced out across his main and natural, and drilling his SCVs back forth to protect them. At the same time he used his vultures to lay down a minefield between his main and natural. Thanks to his unflappable quick thinking, he was able to put an end to the harassment without sustaining too much economic damage.

Zepish was only getting started with his aggression though, and he cunningly took advantage of Ramms’s awkwardly positioned tanks and mines to push straight into the Terran’s natural with his dragoons, clearing out the bulk of the tanks and vultures Ramms had accrued in his natural. While he was attacking, Zepish began to tech up back home, transitioning from his early templar ploy into arbiters.

Although Zepish’s attack did not make much headway in Ramm’s economy, by paring down Ramm’s standing army, he guaranteed map control for himself long into the game.

Zepish momentarily stalled his aggression to warp his third nexus, catching up with Ramm’s in expansions several minutes after the Terran’s command center had finished. He continued amassing units just outside of Ramm’s natural expansion, and started building a shuttle and speed zealots, which he used to make another attempt on Ramm’s defenses. The shuttle carpeted Ramm’s tank line with zealots as the dragoons and remaining zealots pushed into the Terran natural.

This time no amount of stalwartness on Ramm’s part could save his natural command center. He prudently surrendered it while fortifying his main at the choke to the natural, which was made impenetrable by mines and siege tanks.

Ramms transferred his SCVs to minimize damage, but there was nothing he could do for his command center.

Soon Zepish’s first arbiter arrived to supplement the Protoss attack, but without its spells Ramms was able to repel it with turrets and scans.

Zepish, undeterred, secured his fourth expansion and persisted in keeping Ramm’s trapped in his corner of the map by slipping an arbiter past a row of missile turrets at Ramms’s third and recalling a control group of dragoons.

Zepish’s complete map control allowed him to expand and fly arbiters wherever he pleased.

Ramms cleaned up the attack, but not before losing another command center and many SCVs. By this point, he was deep in trouble. He had hardly crossed made it out of his natural since his FD attack at the beginning of the game, and his resources were constantly being drained with rebuilding turrets and command centers. Zepish’s constant attacking left him with an army too small to push into the map with, a problem compounded by the fact that his vultures were forced to lay most of their mines in his main for protection, depriving him of the essential cover he would need to mount any kind of offensive action.

Ramms needed to be moving out and expanding or attacking, but he was completely stuck in his base.

Zepish, meanwhile, had full reign of the rest of the map, moving a probe to expand at the bottom left natural, which he saturated with ease, sending a procession of probes across the map with no fear of vultures. Ramms tried in vain to take control of his fate with a drop containing a tank and two vultures, but Zepish was well defended with cannons and deflected the attack with no damage. Zepish’s next attack was all but crippling. He moved for Ramms’s natural with three arbiters, stasising half of Ramms’s tanks, and storming the rest. When the stasis wore off, Zepish fell back..

With his main mined out and his opponent expanding rampantly, Ramms had no choice but to try for a fourth base. He capitalized on his brief respite by mining up the space between his natural and the 12 o’clock expansion and began a command center. But Zepish was too far ahead at this point. He bulled forward and killed off the fresh command center before Ramms could mine anything from it, then continued forward to end the game with a crushing victory at Ramms’s natural.

Zepish’s army was too powerful for Ramms to keep his fresh base.

GG.

Winners Interviews

With this weekend heralding an end to the pure zerg dominance we observed in the first two qualifiers we took the time to sit down and have a chat to the lucky players who will be taking a slot in the TLS proper.

Pro7ect [image loading]

+ Show Spoiler +
Pro7ect you made it through the final qualifier! How do you feel?

I feel really good! I didn’t expect that I could make through qualifiers because I didn’t play BW at all. I just wanted to have fun in Brood War by participating in TLS. Maybe that's why I could show good games.

Many people really wanted to see you make it through, why did it take you so long to qualify?

Well, when TLS was announced, I told myself that I would participate in last qualifiers just to have fun with BW players. Just for fun and nothing else. To qualify to the next stage was not my goal in TLS because I am not an active BW player.

You faced INF3cted in the Ro4. Did it feel good to steal a qualifying spot away from such a talented Zerg?

It was all the same for me whether to win someone and get a qualifying spot or not. I don’t know who is playing well these days in the Brood War foreign scene. Of course, I was happy when I got into the finals of this qualifier, but I would not be disappointed if I lost.

Both you and your opponent use numbers for letters in their name, does that give you an advantage?

Haha, maybe yes. Maybe that's why I could beat him. 7 is bigger 3.

Game 1 was 40 minutes, is it hard to stay bio for that long of a game?

Bio play itself is very stressful style for your health :D. In Game 1 I think I didn't have an opportunity to switch to mech because of the successful mutalisk harass from Infected. So I wanted to make an all-in push from 2 base, but it didn’t work.

After game 1’s loss you switched to mech, why was this?

As I know, mech style in EC is very good versus Zerg. So that's why I played mech. That's the reason. :D

At one point your apm was 500, do you have a third hand we are unaware of?

Haha, It would be very nice. All this 500 apm is just spam, nothing else.

For game 3 you switched back to bio, can we expect a variety of builds from you like this since Zerg dominates the final bracket?

I had some good builds against Zerg when I was an active BW player. Unfortunately, I can’t remember them So it's going to be some freestyle.

INF3cted built lots of lurkers, do you find that is the hardest unit to deal with form zerg?

For me defliers and ultralisks are harder to deal with than lurkers.

The final opponent you met was Ramms. Were you at ease playing Protoss?

No, because Protoss is imba :D. I think TvP is my weakest match-up, or at least I don’t feel confident at TvP.

Both games went really smooth, how have you maintained such good form?

I wanted to finish these final games as faster as possible because I was really tired. :D That's why I go all-in. I was lucky that it worked perfect for me. :D

As the final qualifier, is there anything you would like to say to the fans or players?

I would like to show some respects to all BW players and fans and it is amazing that BW is still alive. I want to thank all TLS staff and Twitch and Razer for this tournament. You can add me on facebook and follow on twitter @Pro7ecT! See you guys at the group stage!

Thank you for the interview and good luck in the main bracket.

G5 [image loading]

+ Show Spoiler +
G5 you won the fifth qualifier! How are you feeling?

Good. I haven't played competitive StarCraft in over 2 years. It feels good to be back.

It seemed like you and ZergbOy had some words, is he a rival?

No.

You will most likely have a qualifier group full of Zergs, how is the current state of PvZ?

All of my match ups are weak compared to what they used to be, but I'm slowly starting to get a hold of things again. I don't keep up with stuff in the community, never watch VODs, and never watch replays, so I can't comment on the current state of PvZ. But for me, I find PvZ very fun and very open to unique and exciting builds. I am looking forward to practicing some PvZ for my matches to come.

There was talk that your lack of practice led to odd openings versus Zerg. Are you just ahead of the metagame or is there some other reason for your build orders?

I don't feel like I played much different from how I used to play PvZ except for the fact that my builds are far less crisp. Maybe the "standard" for PvZ now a days is much different from how I play but the builds still work, and why wouldn't they? Protoss and Zerg are still the same race, with the same strengths and weaknesses, and the same limitations as to when I last played this game. What worked 2+ years ago still works today because nothing has changed except for peoples mind-set as to how the game should be played.

Your finals opponent was Dewalt. Are you happy to see two Protoss qualify into the main tournament?

I was happier to see 2 Terrans qualify after me. I am very unconfident vs Protoss because of the luck factor of having a build order loss. It has always been this way.

Your PvP looked really strong as you won 2-0, what is your key to winning versus Protoss?

In PvP, like any other match up, I try to imagine what I would do on a certain map, in a certain mind-set, as if I were my opponent. I then come up with a build that directly counters it, and go with my intuition until I scout something that makes me alter my build. I try to trade efficiently and hit good timings. I always trust my instinct and never hesitate to go through with it.

For people who didn’t follow every qualifier, how many of them did you participate in and what was your most difficult challenge?

I played in 2. The first one, I lost a quick PvZ in the first round. The second one, I won. The most difficult challenge was finding the time to play in the tournaments. I have spent the past few weekends with my girlfriend and it has been difficult to sit down for 4-5 hours and play a tournament. I'm glad I found the time though and I'm glad my builds worked out and I qualified for the next stage of the TLS.

You have the advantage of knowing who has qualified into the tournament so far, is there anyone you would like to eliminate from the main brackets?

Most of the players, including the invited players, I honestly have no idea who they are. There are only a few players like PiKe and Eriador that I recognize from when I played. It doesn't matter who I play though, I am just looking to see how far I can go and accurately gauge where my skills are at the moment compared to the community.

Is there anything else you would like to say to the Brood War community?

Thank you for still being alive. In my opinion, SC:BW is still the best game in the world and I am very glad to see that there are still people who are passionate about this wonderful game.

Thank you for your time and good luck in the tournament.

Qualified Players

Ramms [image loading]

+ Show Spoiler +
Ramms, you are one of the final two to qualify. What’s going through your head now?

It was my last chance and I'm glad that I was able to use it.

You played a very silly opponent, Nemu. What’s your experience playing against him?

I do not see it as a good player and all the nonsense I was not particularly worried. The victory means only that I did everything right.

Nemu tried to fake leaving the game. Did this almost trick you?

Of course not.

Your vulture harassment in game 1 was good and then you destroyed Nemu’s dragoons with tanks. Was playing vP easy for you?

I think in this game, everything was as it should be. Actually, I like the way we running around but my advantage was very rapid.

Game 2 your opponent was zerg and it seemed like you knew. Did Nemu choose Zerg pregame or was this a product of great scouting?

No, he initially chose Zerg.

The second game was a walk over for you as the might of Terran crushed Zerg. Is your Terran always this scary versus Zerg?

Sometimes I show a really strong TvZ. I am glad that I was able to show it but Nemu not the level to be proud of this.

In the finals you chose to play Protoss. Why is PvT a trend for Terran players that seemingly avoid TvT?

I think to maintain a high percentage of wins in TvT need to pay more attention to this match up than others. But playing a lot of it does not seem a good idea. At the same time I like to play PvT and I decided to get more enjoyment from the game than negatives.

The qualifiers are over and the brackets will be revealed soon, is there anyone your hoping to avoid?

Many players are very strong... I will not list.

Qualifier 6 had many viewers and therefore I’m sure you have earned many fans. Do you have anything you would like to say?

I became a bit flattered because I just a simple player in StarCraft. Thanks for your support, I hope I will be able to show a good game!

Thank you for the interview and best of luck in the main tournament!

Dewalt [image loading]

+ Show Spoiler +
Dewalt, you qualified! How excited are you?

Hi, I'm glad I qualified. That's a pity I was too tired to show a decent play at the final. It was 5 a.m. for me.

You met Napolean in the round of 4. That must have been tough yes?

Yes, I think that Napoleon is one of the strongest European Zergs.

You fell 0-1 to your opponent, how do you calm your mind for the next two games?

In the first game I played very poorly, but despite the failed push at the beginning I still had a chance to win. My thoughts were to play pretty standard then and to take the game as the result.

Drops were key in game 2. Is that something that you practice often?

No, I do not often have a game plan. I prefer to wing it.

You built many dragoons to overwhelm your opponent. How did you manage to make them look so strong when many protoss players use zealots.

I just love my dragoons. Each of them got his own name.

In the third game you went for storm and push Napolean back. At what point did you know would take the game?

Napoleon played in low-eco build, and DTs who had killed all the drones on the main made the whole game.

You faced a protoss in the final! Are you able to practice much PvP?

I like PvP, there's bunch of Protosses in the Russian community so I have a lot of practice.

You lost both games to G5, did that affect your mood?

No, my goal was just to qualify.

The final tournament begins Saturday and you will most likely see many Zergs, how do you feel about this?

PvZ is my weakest matchup so it will be hard to get through.

Do you have any words for the Brood War fans out there?

Thanks to all who root for me, Russian Brood War best Brood War!

Thank you very much for the interview and good luck in the Tournament.

That's all for now! Join us in a few days as we reveal the full Round of 24 grounds and preview the games that will be played next weekend. And as always a big thanks to our sponsors:

Edit: Just read it and some parts of it refer to a Naugrim vs Drone game. Probably want to fix that ^^

I agree with Dewalt, Napoleon has one of the strongest zvps in Europe. Also, since Zepish beat him I think its more of a feat than defeating Ramms, even though that's not easy either.

The final opponent you met was Ramms. Were you at ease playing Protoss?

No, because Protoss is imba :D. I think TvP is my weakest match-up, or at least I don’t feel confident at TvP.

The semis and finals of the qualifiers were broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays at 3.15 pm EST respectively. As far as I know, the matches of the group stage will be cast during the same time slots, starting next weekend. (Saturday, 2/9, around 3 pm EST.) However, keep an eye out for the annoucement thread that should be posted sometime during the week.

For future reference, teamliquid also features an event calender. For BW, it is not always up to date and does not include everything but it might help you to find dates and times for tournaments that you want to follow. (top right, under the search box) BW Calendar for Febuary
The TLS is not yet listed, I think.

I'm also the same vOddy from Command & Conquer.

I wasted so much time playing that game when I should have been playing StarCraft. I could have been so good by now.

on a side note, Michael was one of the invites and he's seeded to the Ro16, so he's not playing in Ro24

Michael is seeded into the Ro16 so it can't be him. Good guesses though

Group B:

+ Show Spoiler +

Shine

I leave you to deduce the clues given

ahhahaha amazing i will have to think about it then .-.
Group A: Flash is obviously Pro7ect, Zero i think it can be Michael. GGplay... I don't know.. Technnics ?, Horang 2 can be enjoy me.

Group B: Reach is you, Calm is Bakuryu, Turn is TTF, and shine is Pike or Jim hahaha.

i think i'm right about Flash

pretty good guesses, to me they have very similar play styles to the pros.

Well for one you're not qualified.
Secondly, the only pro who builds as many cannons as you is Doctor.K, so I guess that'd be you...

yeah he's totally Jaedong, that amazing micro he has, insane apm, and very dominant way to beat his oponents makes him JD, and i think Technnics is more like Julyzerg, he has an amazing macro and looks pretty unbeatable in ZvP
