I hope these showmatches turn out to be really fun
I'm bummed that Boxer isn't playing in these showmatches, but he is taking a break due to shoulder injuries so that might be understandable. It would've been cool to see YellOw in it as well, but he wouldn't be YellOw if he had won an OSL. And it's too bad that oov's wrist is too bad for him to play seriously, in addition to his military obligations.

This is going to be epic! Nice for the good old times... I wish they can get BoxeR and Oov instead of XellOs and TheMarine, also sAviOr instead of GoRush.

He is banned from progaming. no luck there
I think he might be one of the most skilled there though, I mean he did play for quite a while and streamed as well.

Savior to be let in cause one of them is sick, asks for repentence from the BW gods and is reborn in SC2 as "Redemtion", wins GSL OSL NASL MLG IPL and donates all the monies to young new players to make up for his past.
I hope they can put some time out of their schedule to practice, nevertheless it's still super exciting to see these people face each other again, I mean TheMarine should commentate his own game while he was playing it from FPV lol.

i'll be completely honest here, I started following BW about 3 weeks before SC2 was released and i respected both games equally but the BW pro scene was all there was at the time. I still follow both scenes and it brings me tears of joy that i get to see some of the greatest players in action since i hit the scene so late.

savior instead of gorush...?
-_-
Yeah, I wouldnt leave Gorush out, given his massive impact on how Zerg is played.
I was going to say that the to-be-revealed match was obviously going to be Boxer/Yellow, but Yellow never won an OSL. Could be Boxer-Yellow anyway, though.
Edit: Especially since GoRush, who never won an OSL either, is also there.

the last two are, the first two are not. Gorush never made an osl final at all. Kind of a weird pick, but maybe not enough zergs to pick from? Would have to go pretty far back to get one I guess.

BoxeR can't play due to his shoulder. He forfeited all his SC2 games already. Not sure which arm hurts, so he may still be able to bunker rush yellow using the mouse only.

XellOs is a great pick, he was and still is awesome.
This makes me worry about Boxers shoulder. He stopped playing like 2 months ago and still isn't able to play in this kind of showmatch? Sounds really bad. ._.
Man, even though I barely know anything about BW, I would have loved to see oov play.
I also asked Kimbilly on followup because I didn't see it confirmed in the article and he thinks the matches will be in BW.
I feel like the ones who retired last will win pretty easily, so gorush, reach and anytime, with nal_ra as the exception. I mean it's Kang Min! He would beat any non-progamer on just his raw talent. I'm looking forward to the first 2 games the most. I can't see Nada or July finding reasons to devote enough time to have a shot at winning, and gorush vs themarine is a commentator grudge match, so they will probably take this quite seriously.
Man I hope someone records the broadcast I only started following brood war recently after discovering pro SC2 it will be great to see the legends of old duke it out

Wish savior would come back to play some games too... QQ BoxeR has his injury and Oov his service. damn sad
I really hope it isn't Boxer vs Yellow. Putting myself in Yellow's place, all the crap that people give him (this thread has plenty) I don't see any incentive for him to play yet again, especially after the embarrassment that Boxer gave to him in the SC2 showmatch. If he wins, he won a meaningless game/series against his old rival that no one will ever care about. He loses yet again, he's the butt of the same, tired ass joke he has been for far too many years.
As GTR said, Bisu v Jaedong would be a fun series with both guys still in relatively good BW shape. A fitting series.

July may have retired first, but his last zvp win is one year more recent than Reach's last pvz win. July will dismantle Reach with his timeless zvp awesomeness.

Was just thinking about the current OSL video clip - it's the competing progamers + Boxer, Yellow and Reach. That and the news about BW OSL ending led me to believe we may see some ceremonies with past OSL legends involved and showmatches etc.

Nice of them. I don't expect that much in terms of games though, except some crazy stuff from Nal_rA and NaDa getting awfully stomped. I like BoxeR and YellOw, but maybe Jaedong vs Bisu would be better indeed.
OMG, Sick sick news. GoRush, July, Nal_Ra, NaDa? I literally cannot wait for this event. I wish they would ask oov to play as well, I never got the chance to see him play live
Also, I fully support the idea to bring back the old maps, it'd be sad if they had to play on Ground Zero and Gladiator.
wow nada and july going back to play bw will be interesting but... NAL_RAAAAA omg, I can't wait to see him play, it was so sad when he had to go off to do military service but can't wait to see him again!
I'd be disappointed if the surprise match before the finals is anything but Boxer vs Yellow. (or maybe a Flash vs Jaedong if Flash doesn't make the finals.)

I can actually see this happening....
Hah but seriously KANGMIN<3<3<3<3<3
If only you could see what I see. Stork wields a scepter of lightning, Fantasy has an eye-patch and a turban-wearing turkey-vulture is perched upon his shoulder, Bisu has two personal body guards dressed as dark templar, and Jaedong is a schizophrenic man in a mutalisk costume ever fearful of Soulkey and Zer0 who lurk in the shadows scheming to take his spot on the panel. Fantasy often plots with his vulture to steal Flash's crown which prominently displays his golden mouse and badge. His efforts are continually thwarted, however, by Nada, July, and oov, the keepers of the golden throne.

this is probably the best bw highlight i have ever seen. please dont mind the video quality, if u are a bw fan u'll definitely know what is happening and why bw is so amazing.. enjoy.
you know what would be great? if OGN is able to invite all the previous champions plus other legendary players for a ceremony before the finals with interviews and a final hype video...
also, just a small correction, TheMarine never won the OSL so it wouldn't be correct to list him as a former champion.

Absolutely right, I accidentally inverted them. Flash is the one who kept going for blind 14CCs in '08, and Fantasy is the guy with the Vultures. Sorry about that, I'll edit it out.
So happy they are doing this These are going to be amazing, I hope they prepare some awesome strategies. Is there any info on what they're competing for? Or is it just pride lol. Can't wait to see ducktoss / tissuetoss. Or any of the other matches for that matter.

My alltime favorite zerg (July) vs my alltime favorite protoss (Reach) + My alltime favorite terran (NaDa) vs my fourth favorite player of alltime after these 3 (Anytime)
Would be fun if Flash would also play to round up all my top 5 alltime favorite players playing, but I guess the last match is Boxer vs Yellow.
Still pretty damn awesome!
A worthy finish to the BW proscene
The only thing that can top this is probably Flash becoming the only player to win 4 titles in the same individual, by winning the current OSL.

The last SPL finals has already been played imo... Why would you consider BW/SC2 hybrid SPL the last finals, if you're of the opinion that it is real SPL you shouldn't think it is ending at all since the season will go on, just with pure SC2 most likely. Not to be negative, I just think it's weird to consider this a BW SPL. It exists in and of itself as whatever it is.

If Boxer is really not fit to play/really out of practice I really hope they don't get him to bunker rush Yellow once again

Most likely. "Although the list has not been made public, it's true that the two greatest legends in esports will take part in the legends match that takes place before the finals." (OGN, via DES)
this is awesome... sure the games won't be super high level, but watching TheMarine, Nal_rA, XellOs, etc, for the last time, will bring back some of the good old memories of my early days of starcraft.

IntoTheRainbow? Casy? Chojja? You don't have to go too far back to see there are lot of players worthy of a legends match. However, it is likely to be Boxer and Yellow no doubt about it. Hard to think of any two players who epitomize legendary BW more than those two. They were more or less the original legends and even 10 years later everyone knows about them. It would really be a shame if Boxer's medical issues prevented him from showing.

Well, Gorush and TheMarine never played in an OSL final (that I could see). So maybe Bisu Jaedong could happen. Wouldn't be as epic as Boxer Yellow though.
Oh, what an awesome news, most of this players were playing when i was begining broodwar and in the computer clubs where all children/teens used to hang, i was only hearing legends about boxer, nal_ra and nada and hardly watched any replays when bigger dudes showed to me, aah that was amazing times.
I love broodwar and i love community for we can share such great emotions!
i hope the secret special match is Kimcarrier vs Idra
although if you were gonna have Gorush and TheMarine they should have had Kingdom, H.O.T forever (i still dont know what this name means), Garimto playing or something.

This is the last televised game of StarCraft for most of them and last chance for us to see such great players in the booth, playing the game we love for the last time ;/
Without savior vs bisu, these legend matches don't feel complete... there must be bad legends as well, and with broodwar coming to rest anyway (what a shame) we can as well have savior play another game of history!
Reach vs July did not disappoint too much. We got to see the manliness in FULLPOWER mode, and the hero capes and the red wig. Also woot woot for LimJinRok in the finals!

I almost got a seizure when I tuned in to the stream today and saw Reach vs July. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw those two in OSL RO8 again, unfortunately reality soon hit me as the banner appeared saying "Legends Match".
Hopefully for the finals KeSPA has mercy and invites sAviOr. I think my life would be complete at that point.
To wrap it up, Reach is still manly, hope he attempts a comeback in SC2.

Savior won't be invited since hes banned and Reach won't make a comeback on Sc2 because he started a team/or is a coach on LoL or something like that I believe.

take it from one of the biggest fanboys. no. he should never be allowed to win priz emoney or earn salary from starcraft. if he wants to switch to LoL and join a team, i have no problem with that (kespa does obviously) but starcraft he's done. He (along with his contact for the betting sites) brought down korean BW.he should never play starcraft for money again. and i love his play to death and still watch his vods. but no.

Actually I watched savior play live (on live streams, that is), along with korean brood war back before you even heard of starcraft probably, but I guess your sole task on this forum is to be a complete idiot and write bullshit like this.
as far as the "he destroyed bw" posts, no he didn't, brood war didn't die or start dying because of match fixing, only thing that happened cause of this is that a legend got demonized in an instant. you don't see football being destroyed by far worse things than match fixing (racism, etc).
and yes, you can write what you want, i still want to see savior play again, even if it's a showmatch. and no, i didn't say i want savior in sc2, you made it up, savior in sc2 would just be a waste of talent.
edit: why does on mention of savior's name everything have to turn into a shit fest? don't you people have better things to do then slam others for their personal preference?

Then go to afreeca and start paying him with balloons and support his cause, while believing what you want.
No need to argue over a silly argument where you think other people are "making up" stories of the connection between "fall of BW" and one "legend".

If you actually loved the whole scene instead of a single player, you might understand why this is happening.
I had fun writing that post and had thoughts of editing it out but eventually i forgot to do so. You were not one of people my stupid post wanted to depict, fine. Grats, but saying "might aswell unban him" was not much smarter either on your part.
Personally i dont mind seeing him play starcraft, BUT i would never advocate of letting him into the booth, cause of grievance it would cause, and that would be justified grievance. Not to mention this event is called Legends Matches, which happens to be the crowning touch to Brood War legacy, you simply can't have Savior there. Simple.
My post was meant to describe a stupid "evil fruit bandwagon" that spawned after sc2 injection. Where SC2 fans wanted to things happen just to fill their momentary curiosity after they heard that "Someone REALLY good" was sentenced for match fixing, completely ignoring the way Korean esports work and completely ignoring thousands of people who could be affected.
As SNM said, fan selfishness (of seeing Savior play) can still be fullfilled by simply going to his stream. I dont mind that, its up to people what they want. But there is a border of what i want and what starts to cause a harm.
He cheated in a game, yes it's about money and I see the big issue. But I just want to tell, there have been doctors who has molested kids and such and they still get their licences back, if not in their country, in others...

Ignoring the youtube video, there is obviously a big problem with his argument. Making comparisons like this is good food for thought sometimes, but it is not a way to prove a position. One, because doctors and progamers are not the same (for instance, there is a much bigger PR concern for media), Two, because most people upon hearing that doctors who molest their kids sometimes get their licenses back would not thing 'oh well that's reasonable,' they would actually be a little shocked.
I'm not a person who thinks Savior is the son of Satan, but it's very clear that a league, especially a fragile league, cannot have their name knowingly accepting a cheater. Crucifying Savior was the only way to mitigate the damage his actions caused. However, as intelligent individuals more knowledgeable about the scene and less susceptible to uninformed opinion, we can say that there is more to savior and more to the collapse of the scene than the sensational headlines that mar public perception of all things. Not to say that a lot of people didn't take it as a personal insult and tragedy that they cheered for Savior for a year of slumping only to find out the person they'd given their hearts to was going to be the posterboy of the scandal. That messes with internal consistency and a lot of people resort to just going to complete opposite direction and hating him. But again, I find it a pathetic perspective. Dehumanizing and scapegoating a person because it is the simplest way to escape your own feelings.

Except every single one of them got death sentence from KeSPA.
The perspective people often ignore is what happened to sponsorship following the match fixing scandal. The fans' perspectives DONT EVEN MATTER HERE because they are not what pulled the money from the game and brought about the actual collapse.
It is an absolute fact that following the match fixing scandal, at least one team folded immediately and sponsorship for leagues and teams dried up within a season. That is indisputable. Savior is not a scapegoat; he is a symbol, yes, but also more directly responsible than any other individual for causing sponsors to pull all support from the league.
It doesn't really impact the game when Bart Miadich gets named in the Mitchell report for taking HGH. Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens? Huge deal, and not just because they are being made scapegoats: they had a huge hand in shaping the game and the industry and thus have a ton of money and importance attached to their actions.
