Coaches are sad that SC1 only grew in Korea. They really wanted it to grow like how SC2 is with MLG. However, they believe that a foreign community (i.e. mentioning Team Liquid) still exists for BW and they were hoping that this community will always exist. They see that while the eSports community has grown with SC2, in actuality, they feel like the Korean eSports Community has simply grown smaller due to this growth.

This makes me cry alittle bit on the inside.

The comment about TBLS losing their position atop the pyramid was interesting to me. On the one hand, we've all been speculating on when new talent will rise to challenge them and if players like fantasy are breaking into that quartet. On the other hand, having their dominance end due to a switch to an entirely new game rather than others actually surpassing them feels cheap. I know I always hoped that the best BW players would be able to show their dominance in SC2 when/if they played it seriously.

I feel most sorry about those practice partners and B-teamers who aspired for BW that's so fleeting. All that effort gone down the drain. SC2 won't fill that hole for a lot of them and many will feel cheated.

My heart goes out to them

It's pretty funny to see the broodwar fans pick what they want out of the article and the SC2 fans to pick the things that makes it good for them as well.

The one thing that I find annoying is that SC2 fans give BW huge support, any thread on reddit is upvoted, we try to post in hype threads here etc, as well as tuning in to games, (proleague finals by sayle were close to 6000 and I know alot of them were mainly SC2 players, from the chat anyway as well as from the 2 major communitiers). However when it comes to SC2, BW fans won;t even give it a chance. They dismiss it immediately and complain about it.

Why can't we all just get along and support each other.

Bitterness and disapointment from those people losing one of their favourite pastimes. I don't like it either but i guess i can understand it.

To me, it seems like this:

The BW fans out there, or at least many of the BW fans, are elitists who doesn't follow SC2 or doesn't play SC2, and downplays the game a lot. It's not like they haven't played or watched SC2 in the past: they all gave it a try in the early days and decided to stick with BW. The SC2 players who step into watch BW games, however, are the ones who are curious or open minded about BW, and the ones who follow both scenes and have understanding of both games. Some trolls, when they walk immediately into BW stream, are slightly curious about BW even when they troll for the first time (in fact, this happened on my stream few times and they admitted that watching BW is not bad after all). The ones that truly do not care about BW won't walk into the stream at all.

Same goes to SC2 streams. BW players might walk into some SC2 stream and show interest, and some hardcore elitists will tell them to 'fuck off and go play some 90's game, die along with it (and KeSPA)'. It's really double sided argument, but we see more BW elitists do it because they're the "desperate ones".

Haha, I find it really cool how much the coaches know about Teamliquid. Makes me wonder if they have ever stumbled upon the odder threads in the BW General section *cough*Nada's Body*cough*

Just read the interview through OpticalShot's PM. Now I feel like taking a long emo solitary walk on the beach With dual PL 99.99% confirmed (I really wish they had just jumped straight into SC2 if they were going to do it anyway but who am I to speak) this OSL will be heartrending like no other. On a personal note, in a few months I will be leaving to attend grad school thousands of miles away from home where the timezone is not conducive to SC watching, so I was planning to minimize my viewing anyway. That said, I am going to be glued in front of my computer for the OSL. PL finals I think was a good close and quite deserving of the last PL finals ever. If the OSL finals and series are as good as the PL finals were I can leave my BW (and possibly SC) watching days behind in complete peace.

You could just switch over to SCII. There is ALWAYS something to watch.

That's true, I have on occasion stayed up to catch a few MLG/Dreamhack games during the BW offseason out of curiosity, along with GSL which is closer to my timezone. Minimizing SC watching is really more of a personal choice, given my future circumstances (I'm not the type to function well with little sleep, and I don't have the ability to skate my way to good grades without really studying). To be honest, of what I've seen SC2 just doesn't captivate me the way BW does, but I'm sure I will watch the first few games of SC2 by BW pros and then just see what happens.

All of these unclear SC2 rumors and sort of 'forced' SC2 had left me feeling kind of bitter, but reading the interview over and over helps to take some of the edge off. Like the people in this thread have said, there are lots of complex stuff behind the switch, along with regrets regarding the BW e-sports scene, and there doesn't seem to be an easy solution. Anyway you look at it, something's got to give, and this is what they decided. Although as a BW spectator I am not happy about it, I can see why it happened. Again, it helped that the PL finals were fantastic, I don't think I would be feeling this way if it had gone the way of the last MSL finals.

All hail ESPORTS, praise to the glorious church of ESPORTS. I can't wait to see all my favorite players dance around expansions and constant patch notes changing fucking everything because Blizzard wants to milk TWO expansion packs out of SC2.

I gave SC2 a chance. Until Blizzard changes AI pathing to prevent stupid fucking blobs rolling across the map, stops releasing balance patches and expansions, and makes some actually interesting units (like....reaver?) and get rid of pointless boring ones (like... most everything else?) I won't be watching it.

They are two completely different games. It's like saying football(soccer) is shutting down, so all the fans should watch american football instead.

Heart = broken. Guess I'll have to practice BW hard over the weekends and do my best to participate in the foreign scene. The Brood War pro scene was born without any help (i.e forcing) from corporate assholes, and you know what? It can survive without them too. Maybe not with huge tournements and large TV exposure, but BW won't die until the people who love it stop caring out it. And I don't know about you, but I'm not going anywhere.

A common mistake SC2 fans make is to ignore the fact that we, BW fans, were waiting for SC2 way before many of the guys who compose the "modern" SC2 fanbase. Believe me, we already gave SC2 a chance.

I just hope that Blizzard and Korea will make SC2 as enjoyable to watch as BW was in it's heydays . Foreigner support is also good . Keep hosting them tournaments even though koreans will own you most of the times .

To some extent, I don't think some of those people in "we" actually gave SC2 that much chance; just leeched off from watching the games and listening to other players who bought the game.

The thing that will suck with a switch is to see those players staying/switching to Protoss in sc2. Just the thought seeing Bisu play sc2 Protoss makes me cringe so bad. All that multitasking skill and possibility wasted because the race design punish you for multitasking because your race suck ass if it's not in a deathball and you have minimal harass potential...

At least Terran and Zerg rewards good mechanics and can be a challenge to handle even with MBS because you have to hit injects and spread creep, do multipronged attacks, drop, split and kite etc during the fast phased gameplay than can occur. With Protoss you almost don't do anything. You make probes, pylons, press W every 40 seconds or whatever the warpgate cooldown is and then press where you want your units to spawn with your mouse, produce from your robo and upgrade when you have the tech. It's sad when you watch PvZ or PvT and look at the production tab, it's almost always empty for Protoss.

1 is killing the other. I'm sure sc2 fans would be very supportive if the whole scene switched back to bw lol.

Localizing unit names always bothered me. If Samsung players don't know what the Dark Shrine is, I guess Kim Ga-eul can phone Bisu.
