SKT1 Group Interview, “We want to go on a winning streak”
SKT1 defeated CJ Entus 3-1 in Round 3 Week 1 of Proleague. Soo, Best, and Sun each cut their 2 game, 3 game, and 5 game losing streaks, respectively.
Your feelings on stopping losing streaks. Best – I feel good that I was able to stop my losing streak and play a fun game at the same time. There were several dangerous moments but because I was able to overcome them, it was a more memorable game. soO – I’m happy that we all got to cut our losing streaks at the same time. Sun – It was really hard to deal with a losing streak. Our team lost every time I lost so I approached each game with a lot of responsibility. Getting advice from our team hyungs was really helpful and seeing my teammates stop their own losing streaks encouraged me a lot.
Why do you think you had been slumping? Best – I kept losing to Terran and Protoss players. I played well during practice and then lost every time I went on broadcast. I’m always either on a winning streak or a losing streak so I hope I can go on a winning streak now that I stopped my losing one. soO – I sometimes won because luck often made up for my lack of some skill but I didn’t get lucky for a while. I think I won today because I practiced a lot. Sun – I think that there are times when you win and also times when you lose. I barely practiced my PvP for today so I think today was a day that just worked out (laughs).
Your team has two wins left until you have 200 victories. Best – It helps remind me how strong our team is and when we have 300 wins I hope I am still here. I hope we are the first team to reach 300 wins. soO – I didn’t know that we had come this far. I want to continue winning rather than place a lot of meaning on it. Sun – I hope we can be the first to hit 400 wins and I'm planning on still being around until then (laughs).
SKT1 has had strong performances against CJ. Best – It’s very strange that I’ve always had the better builds when I played CJ. I think I was able to win because I went into the game with an upper hand. Sun – I think we won because our team is good (T/N: Yes we know that too captain obvious).
Your next opponent is KT. Do you think you will be able to continue your winning streak? Best – We have to beat KT in order to have a shot at first place. I want to win no matter what. If I am sent out, I’d like to play against Zerg. I hope I can meet Action. I have never played against him yet. soO – I lost all the games I played against KT (laughs). Even though our team won those times. If I get to play against them I will win. I hope I can meet a Zerg player. Sun – I will win regardless of who I play.
Any last words? Best – A lot of our fans came to root for us so I feel really good that I was able to win in front of them. I want to say happy birthday for Yoo-sung hyung and I am happy that soO and Sun were able to stop their losing streaks at the same time. I also want to give my mother a nice present. soO – SIN mentioned me in his interview and I want to accept his request of going to see our old high school teachers together (T/N: SIN and soO are high school alumni). I feel good that the players who were on a losing streak all stopped them today. Sun – I really wanted to do an interview on broadcast. I won today but didn’t get to do it. I really want to do one when I win again. Also, people from our company paid a lot of attention to me after my surgery so I’d like to thank them all.
EDIT: I do agree with them, it's actually a nice change to see a SKT interview that doesn't have Fantasy or Bisu in it. I've missed Sun after his terrific last season and soo certainly deserved it as well
2nd EDIT: Almost forgot, thanks for the translation! Silly me!
well... movie played like shit, should have pulled probes waay earlier to keep reaver alive
horang2... nothing to say... 3gate vs 1gate man... what the fuck? and then someone says horang2 is S-class....
Best played well, obviously spent a lot of time with Bisu but still lacks the management abilities of Bisu and comes short on small details like preserving corsairs and DTs. Effort tried a very all in style muta kill temps then counter mass, but Best held it well and from then on the game fell into Best's rhythm.
Real happy for SoO and Sun, SKT need at least one of its zerg and Sun to be reliable again if they want to win it all. Soo weird to see Best saying he'd like to play against a Zerg opponent. Thanks for the interview white_horse.

Even the commentators were shocked that they would live to see the day when BeSt was living off of owning Zergs.
soO – I sometimes won because luck often made up for my lack of some skill but I didn’t get lucky for a while. I think I won today because I practiced a lot.

Would be hilarious if Flash get his shit slapped by Sun as well.
I would like to mention, that Sun outmicroed the shit out of Horange2, so i do not get why he's getting bashed ((. And Best managed Effort's expansions quite well, imo.
Sun dude with 3-6 this season says he will win no matter who he plays against KT that got Stats and Flash makes so much sense as Crazy Hydra saying he can beat anyone in SKT to me but whatever , at least he really spiced that match up for me so good job with this ! Also i dont get why Soo wants to play zerg, i thought hes bad in zvz ? And Best - such a monster in PvZ i doubt Action will be real challenge ... Looking forward to this match and hope that KT goes heavy on T and P against SKT this time
CJ played really retardedly that game imo. Effort threw it all away when he continued with the hydras after having won the first big engagement - very frustrating to watch. Horang2 microed really really badly during his 3-gate push. And I don't understand why Movie didn't add one more canon when he saw all the hydras well in advance. Only one more canon would have saved him I think.

It looked like CJ didn't want to win.
I've nothing to say about Horang2, he microed terribly.
But movie didn't saw the cannons nearly early enough. None of his building cannons managed to warped in on time (they started to finish warping in AFTER the Hydras broke the choke + the Reaver. What he could have done was pulling probe to shield for his Reaver earlier, but even that might or might not have helped, and i'm inclined to think it's the latter.
Effort was never really in a position to switch his army composition after his "win", as BeSt was constantly massing army, threatening to roll over Effort with the P ball should he let up on army production at all. Let's look at EffOrt's options:
- Hive: Takes forever to tech to. BeSt would have beaten him before any meaningful Hive upgrades kicked in. (He did win the next engagement despite EffOrt spending all his resources on his army, that would have happened even earlier and more surely had EffOrt decided to tech to Hive).
- Lurk/Ling composition: BeSt was fairly Goon heavy. And it wouldn't make sense for EffOrt to switch to Lurker given the situation (BeSt later doesn't build as much Goons anymore, but EffOrt doesn't possess clairvoyance). EffOrt's gameplan also revolved around Hydras, which leave his Lings completely unupgraded.. It would take quite a while to upgrade his lings (speed + weap/armor), and Lings themselves don't really fair better vs BeSt composition (Toss Gateway army), esp when there's no crack.
- Mutalisk: EffOrt's third is a mineral-only, so he's short on Gas (being on only 3 Gas).. He can't liberally pump Muta (that control grp of Muta probably drained most of his Gas already), else he ll have to resort to spending the rest of his Larvae on Lings, which isn't the best choice given his situation back then.
All in all, i think that EffOrt planned to end the game early, taking the in-base third so that he doesn't have to spend resources defending that third (usually at another main's Natural), and channeling that resources into army instead. When he failed to deal dmg/capitalise on this early advantage, i think he was on the backfoot.. Brilliant storm dodging for a good part of the game couldn't save him, since BeSt too played pretty well.

Yeah I agree with this. It was terrible to watch. I feel sorry for leta, he had such a great game and couldn't talk about it in an interview.
