CJ Entus' Effort had the honor of being selected as the MVP of PL round1 week1, 1 year after announcing his retirement from progaming.
Effort was selected as the MVP for the SK Planet Starcraft Proleague round 1 week 1, which started on the 26th. On the 27th, Effort was fielded in CJ's third game against hyvaa, and trounced him to bring home a 3:0 victory against STX Soul. On the 30th, he was deployed first and utilized queens, broodlings, zerglings and defilers to rout Iris' mechanic army, while setting the foundation for yet another 3:0 CJ victory.
Effort was tied in most wins with Team8's BaBy, KT Rolster's Flash and his teammate Hydra, but according to the staff's assessment that his contributions were more impactful, he was given the honarable weekly MVP award.
In the round 1 week 1 staff vote, Effort received 5 votes, while Team8's Jaedong received 3, ACE's firebathero received 2, and Samsung KHAN's Stork and SK Telecom T1's BeSt received 1 vote each.
I am not sure what to feel on this choice, BaBy got his teams only win against SKT1 and then won the deciding game against KT Rolster in an 0-2 comeback. I guess coming back from a semi retirement makes EffOrt's, effort have a bit more of an impact. Grats EffOrt!
Yeah, I think if this wasn't Efforts comeback, BaBy would've won it, given the tougher opposition (SKT/KT vs STX/ACE), but come on.. Queens! And awesome comeback!
I agree with you that if it wasn't a "comeback" stage for Effort, Baby should have taken the weekly MVP honour. He played solid in the opening match, and executed a sick attack vs. Wooki in his second game.
i dont think he was the one who deserved it the most. his zvt against iris was really fun to watch but his play was really sloppy after he gained a huge advantage very early in the game. baby should be the mvp
...no votes for Baby? wtf. I mean, yeah effort won both his games, but it's not like he was critical to their lineup. Both matches were 3-0s, and CJ is just so fucking stacked that anyone could have gone out instead of him and it would have been the same result. Meanwhile Baby won the only game for Team 8 on the opening day, and was clutch against KT when the score was 2-2.
Oh well. Grats to effort for still putting up a good performance after being gone for so long.
Yeah, congratulation to effort for playing well and winning both of his games, but winning the first game of the season and starting a comeback from 0-2 seems a little bit more MVP deserving to me.

REPENT SINNER THE MESSIAH HAS RETURNED!! /lol
In all seriousness, I think its mainly the shock and awe factor. Although EffOrt's opponents so far haven't been top-class, its still impressive to see someone who took a year-long break come back and still be playing at such a high level.
EDIT: Just realized that EffOrt is the Messiah and Flash is God.. but EffOrt is the Flash-killer...

He's been practicing at the CJ house since March. Flash's comeback from the surgery is far more impressive.
Yeah, baby really should have gotten the votes rather than jaedong, this coming from a JD fan but i don't think that this week's MVP is any real testament to skill, we haven't seen any real star-studded matchups (no ace match... =/) thus far, but here's hoping!
Gz to Effort, what I don't understand is why did Jaedong get so many votes lol. Nothing against Jaedong btw just wasn't even close to the most impressive players the past week.
It's a bit odd to do it weekly, since there are 6 games in a week. Only 4 of the 8 teams played twice, so the one-game team players stood no chance (although Stork and Best still got 1 vote each). A reward like this is better served only when there is parity among players.
But, never mind that. Congrats to the Alien, Effort! In 2010 - 2011, only Jaedong, Effort, and JangBi have defeated Flash in a BoX series. We need him in tip-top-shape for more competition.

not sure, actually. Baby's a good candidate but the team went 1-1. firebathero I think would have been my pick.
Anyway, EffOrt deserves it - 2-0 is a big deal.
Team 8 going 1-1 isn't Baby's fault and ACE went 1-1 too though. And Baby went 2-0 as well I agree with several people that Baby should have gotten it
I guess I look at Baby's wins: he may have won in style, but he beat soO in TvZ (which soO is bad at) and Wooki, who's been impressive on the whole but is still new.
EffOrt meanwhile made hyvaa look silly (granted hyvaa's ZvZ isn't any better than soO's TvZ) and was doing the same to Iris before he made life difficult for himself by screwing around with queens.
I admit I'm biased: I don't particularly like EffOrt but there's no question he's brilliant, while Baby I still regard as a bit of a fraud at least if we're proposing he's a real top player. He's good, but has never convinced me he has "it". Mainly this is because I'm a huge fan of Mind, who has been practically as good as BaBy since the start of last year's season, but even Mind has never quite been "S class" in the last few years.
I suppose in the literal sense, a set five win on a shallow team is more valuable than merely setting the tone for a 3-0 beatdown which the team would probably win anyway. On the other hand, if Tyson comes out vs Wooki instead of Baby I expect him to win too.
I would have liked to have seen a vote for baby or something but good at least to get consideration. But meh I'm a bigger fan of Effort so I'm caring TOO much >_>
