MBCGame, the gaming channel widely known as the hosts of MSL, will become history on January 31th, 2012. A new channel named MBCMusic will take it's place beginning on February 1st.
A significant portion of the MBCGame crew, including the casters, have joined the OnGameNet channel.
Main implication for the BW fans is, obviously, no more MSL.
Well... at least it wasn't that much of a surprise... the end had been foreshadowed months ago, but still... very sad.
It's a little bit like being back in the old days with no unified PL, but here the PL only not being unified by virtue of there only being one channel left. That's compounded by the new sponsor after the departure of Shinhan bank. These are definitely new waters for BW, but we should be more excited than afraid.
I think the biggest problem they had was probably finding someone to sponsor the last MSL. There was plenty of time, but it's likely that there wasn't enough money. Survivor and prelims usually run before a sponsor is announced, right?

I hope MBCmusic fails terribly. It won't bring MBCgame back but hopefully the guy who made the decision gets fired or something.
There's no need for that. It's a business and they exist to make money and if there's more profit available in kpop then of course they're gunna invest in it.
Sad news indeed! I hope a new tournament repaces the MBC Starleague. The indiviual leagues have some of the best matches. I think especially bo5 bring a special play out of the players. The OSL finals with Jangbi and Fantasy was one of the most exciting set of games for me this year.

Very unlikely. I mean MBC didn't close the gaming channel for no reason, it's not profitable enough/not enough people watch. From what I've gathered the broadcasting stations have very little profit margin anyways so if things turn bad they probably start to loose money.

Don't think so. Do you think they just replace it with a K-Pop Channel for no reason? It's a business and if they make a decision like this they will have run their calculations and K-Pop will probably simply draw more viewers/is more profitable. I mean just think about it, K-Pop probably gets more viewers and sending music videos is a hell of a lot cheaper than producing a Starcraft league.

How do you imagine this happening?
bw was a miracle itself, nothing over, but had to agree there are very small chances.
Good to hear that some of the casters joined OGN, but it yea its sad to see MBC die. RIP MSL, without you BW will never be the same, Triple Crown no longer possible T_T

word...
fucking disgrace ;(
If you were losing money running a huge tournament that has nothing to do with your ongoing business or a large majority of your new niche in customers, I doubt you would continue running the tournament either. So I believe its an overstatement to call MBCGame a disgrace.

No this is from the recording of the last episode of Star Infinity Challenge. Some of the people in the second picture are fans who went to watch the recording. The guy on the far right (standing) in the second picture is Samsung Khan fan Harry.
