I realized you didn't have all the maps here. Also, if someone can get registered to Mapdori, they could probably give you a lot of the pro maps. That's a great site as well.http://www.ongamenet.com/starleague/map/map.asp?mname=star_pro_sky2005

Edit: There are only a handful of maps being played out in the Proleagues right now, most of the maps are classicals (like Guillotine). However, you could keep them in the pro maps until a certain time, like two years after it was last seen in a proleague.

thx peatza for adding the maps. They really look nice;)

Some people still don't understand the importance of naming the file correctly, they should take their time to read;)

There is a comments function for the maps, I don't get why nobody uses it. Just click on the mapname and you can rate and comment the map.

In the next update, you will be able to set a password for the map you added, so you can edit your own map and don't need the admin-password.

I asked this question to panschk earlier.

What is it that makes a map into a "Classic”?

Lost Temple is a classic no doubt about it... is it a question of how long the map has been out/known that decides if it has the right to be called a classic? Or is it a matter of how well known the map is trough the community?

Some of the old b.net ladder maps were hardly ever played. Thought by now they are very old, but they may still not have the right to be called a classic since no one knows about them.

Professional progaming maps can be famous and well known after their release in a matter of hours, but are far from being classics.

So the question is how do we label a map to Classic?

Not all maps that are in "classic", are really "classic" maps to be honest. I just could not think of a better system, and every map should be in some category imo. If you have an idea for a better system, suggest it. Part of it is probably a translation problem, as "klassisch" in german does not mean something must have reached a very high level of popularity, just beeing old and not having changed too much should be enough. Basically, all maps that come from blizzard or out of korea and are no pro maps anymore, would be listed as "classic" in my definition.

well, there are ex-league maps (former/past/previous league maps), current/active league maps, and user maps (final/beta).

you could make a semi-pro division for final user maps that have seen some action on ladders or european tourneys or lower korean action.

I would devise them by their league and year. As in:
Ongamenet 2005:
(4)Forte
(4)LunatheFinal 2.1
(4)Neo Requiem 2.0
(4)R-Point
(4)우산국
they can be found here: http://www.ongamenet.com/starleague/map/map.asp?mname=star_pro_sky2005

WCG 2005:
(2)Paranoid Android
(4)Gaia
(4)Estrella
(4)Azalea
I think you already have these

MBCgame 2005:
(2)Raid-Assault 2
(3)Rush Hour
(4)Luna the Final
(4)R-Point

The MBCgame might not be correct, but that's how I think it should be organized.

hasuprotoss don't you think that sounds like too many divisions?

what do you do about maps that fit into more than one catagory? there has to be a priority (current league > old league > "semi pro" (not sure what to call it, but things like the MMi, WGTour customs, maybe WCG should be here) > final custom > beta custom.

the point of the divisions should be to give people an idea of their alleged/earned quality, not to document every moment in their history. in that vein, perhaps the "semi pro" catagory should be reserved for formal competitions that are not considered as prestigious in the maps they used, which could vary season to season (remember the older gametv maps and things like that). it could be a kind of "lower competitions" catagory that still is more prestigious and indicitive of quality than an "unused" custom.

I've added a couple of really great maps by an Author named JoyDoM (at least I think that's his nick). His maps was used in a korean semi pro tournament, even got the replays from it. I don't know but to me I felt like it didn't get the attention it deserves, especially the maps.

Actually the mapmaker's name is CrooollllllL and he made them for "JoyDom Star League".

Yeah labcoated, that's what I was afraid of, but maybe you could just put the leagues up, and then after you click on what league you want you can click on the year. I do agree with what you're saying as well.

Are you sure about the map makers’ name? I didn't know his name and assumed that his nick was JoyDoM ^^. The JoyDoM Star League was pretty short I believe and didn't have that famous names either.

Do you have the URL for Mr. CrooollllllL's website of he still has any? I had a link to a site ones put it was moved or something.
-

I have changed the Author on all the maps who just had a "?" into the correct one. Also changed some "pro" to "classic" and vice versa.

It's funny; the original Luna is made by Drunken Bird put the map maker i_terran takes all credit for making the modified version LunaTheFinalv2.1. Maybe i_terran is Drunken Bird but why would he have two different nicks...

EDIT:Aaaah... now I see, CrooollllllL right. But he haven't made all the maps listed; Risky II and A better Day is made by other map makers. I will change the Authors.

I must have forgotten to click on "post" for my last post T_T

Well I just wanted to thank Paetza for his great work improving the mapbase.

I want to add a replay-upload script, where you can upload replays from a specific map, so you get a list of replays played on a map when you klick on the maptitle. Do you think that's a good idea?

it really is a great initiative, and not only to gather promaps so you can watch the ones you always wondered how they look, you can also add you own for others to see + remoteload them to other sites (like this site - Space pirates thread is remoteloaded to panschk.de/mappage).

3 things though.
1. the forums, but i already told you that.
2. the quality. And i bet its the same thing here, it takes time to look through everything, but some maps simply doesnt seem to belong on your page knowing the goals you set up in your first posts. refering to maps like "mon" ...
3. The comments threads should be more visible.. then easily dissapear when they only consist on a number (x) right next to the mapname.

i will definitely use this site specially since the uploading procces is SO easy!. all i can say is Great!

If you're interested, me and hefty gladly would help you look over the maps from time to time to ensure the quality. im sure peatza would be glad to help too

edit: oh peatza seems to be on it already :o
