Did you really think SKT T1 would not have its own thread? This PL season just wouldn't feel right if there wasn't
NOTE: Before you read this, know that I've limited most of my write up with information dating back just two years. Anything further than that and this becomes too long
My SKT T1 brothers and sisters! Twice now we've reached the top and twice we've eaten humble pie at the hand of KT Rolster. Frankly I'm quite sick of eating their pies (they're rubbish, don't buy it). Humble pie is vile, repulsive, and unpalatable, much so that it made a few of our players choke. Even the Universe's stomach was upset by the serving, and we know badshithappens when the Universe is upset.
Step 1: turn up volume. Step 2: Open spoiler. Step 3: Play video and continue to read + Show Spoiler +
Well it's time we set things right, time to bring the Universe back into Order, time to kick some PL ass and taste the sweet nectar of victory.
First off, let me establish that despite what happened last year, and the year before that, we're still the most successful PL team. Must I remind you what our trophy cabinet looks like, sure we've added a few silvers but that doesn't change the fact that we're still a kick ass team and a very strong contender for another title. A team forged by The Emperor himself, this team consistently gets to finals, that's more than we can say about a lot of other Proleague teams.
Now, you may have heard of a new team being formed desginated "The Dream Team", you may have heard a certain person getting a much needed arm upgrade, or even an OSL fluke making a return. Let me tell you none of that matters. In the end we'll be in the finals along with whichever team claws their way up. We were number one last season, with two perfect bloody rounds. This coming season will be no different. We'll wait at the top once more, that much will be true.
Let's take a quick run through why we're still the best contender for another title and why we should be feared.
The only thing more amazing than Kim Taek Yong's looks is his performance (debatable?). Sure, he was eliminated in the last MSL at the hands of Flash (no shame losing to Flash). He also has some sort of mental block when it comes to the OSL, but this piece isn't dubbed "why Bisu will in OSL/MSL", we're talking about the Proleague, and here Bisu is The King. This Proleague beast smashed opponents left and right last season, bringing him not only the record of most wins in a season [65], but also the Regular Season MVP title.
Time and time again Bisu has shown consistency and reliablity, propelling SKT T1 to the top. Did I mention he also AK'ed STX, Fox and ACE? Yeah that's what I'm talking about. His PvT maybe a little shaky at times but it's no joke, and don't kid yourself on the other two match ups. He's shown some brilliant play in PvP, going toe to toe with the might Horang2. What about his PvZ? Oh wait, it's called BvZ because he rapes face in this match up (currently holding the highest vZ ELO and ELO overall) Bisu's biggest strength is his ability to multitask like no other, very few players can match Bisu in this department, if any.
Oov said during the last SPL Finals that Mr Kim Taek Yong could be at up to 4 places at any given time. Guess who took this picture.
Named the Terran Revolutionist by the famous Day9, our Terran star is the culmination of training from our Royal Terran linage. While it's true that Oov is no longer with us, he has left because Fantasy is more than ready to walk his own path. With him he'll take the lessons and teachings instilled by the genius coach. There really isn't anything else I can say about this for now, you'll just have to accept that we have to wait and see. I should add Jung Myung Hoon does pretty well in individual leagues. He's shown up twice in the OSL finals, winning gold against the PvT Expert Stork, and earning a silver finish against JangBi.
As of the most recent rankings (Nov), he's 3rd on the Kespa list, the 2nd best Terran, only after Flash, and the closest Terran after that isn't even in the top 10 (if you're wondering it's Sea at 11). Fantasy can be quite the clutch player, he's lost a few games here and there but when it comes down to the wire Fantasy deilvers.
Overall he's a strong contender with very solid results in all 3 match ups, even his bio in TvZ has shown some improvement. Jung Myung Hoon's love for mech units, coupled with his multitasking means another season of lethal harass and terrorizing play. So keep your eyes on that minimap for a small red dot, or else your mininal lines will be bare before you can say god-fucking-dammit
Surfers beware, Protoss tsunami approaching, micro surfboard at your own risk
You know him as the macro monster that summons the entire population of Auir to descend upon his opponents. Doh Jae Wook is like a freight train with a sign that says "Move bitch, get out the way!", steam rolling all in its path and with one destination to reach, Station of Subjugation. Once he gets going it can be difficult to stop him. You think the game's going normally and before you know it he's all over you with more gateways than you can count. The way units flow from his gateways are like small streams that add together to make a power torrent.
To the untrained eye, Best's PvT looks like brute force, but there is a certain finesse that comes with Best's PvT, the angle he attacks from, the way his zealots always seem to make it into tank lines, and the way he's actually able to utilise all his gateways. The shear destruction he can cause is simply beautiful. As long as he keeps enough probes alive and his gateways are all powered, Terran users will continue to fear Best.
But like all trains, they can sometimes be derailed, like putting an engineering bay on the tracks, or if you play Zerg. I'm not really going to get into his other match ups. His PvP is actually pretty decent. His PvZ is...errr well, not his strong suit but he's hardly sent out in PL against a Zerg. Aside from those deficiencies, he's still a force to be reckoned with.
While watching some EMT I realised Best is like Harley who over-lavishes in delicious food, but instead of bacon stripes, what we have are speedlot goons, & more speedlot goons, & more speedlot goons, & more speedlot goons. What'cha know about macro'ing out of 50 gateways. Warp in a few more nexuses and pylons. Get a templar archive for some of that HT saucestoooooooawwwwrms. Add 25 more gateways. Ignore vulture attacking probe line, which is stupid but attack while they're busy microing, fucking smart. Tanks are overpowered am I right Terran haters. Attack that Terran army while he's out of position, next level PvT engagement manoeuvre.
That was a lot funnier in my head...I should have added some screen shots but I got lazy
Boom! That's 3 deadly strikes we've got, but I'm not done yet.
Without our supporting cast SKT wouldn't be the fearsome team we are, these are the players who help solidify and strengthen our main support pillars
Did the music run out? Conveniently placing music here in case it has so you don't have to scroll back up. + Show Spoiler +
People use to laugh at the mention of our Zerg, until they started winning games and getting more interviews (btw haters, keep insulting them, it makes them play better according to this interview). Over the last season both Eu Yoon Su and Lee Seung Suk demonstrated that they weren't just seat fillers. They kept us going when our Aces failed, when SKT was in a bad position, they thrust us out of it. Their performance suffered mid-season, but their efforts at the beginning and towards the end are what helped SKT reach the top.
Their contributions during the season was enough to earn them a spot in the finals where soO would make his debut and s2 would get another chance on the biggest stage of Team League BW. They both received favourable match ups, and unfortunately they both stumpled. No matter, no matter...What's important here is that they've gained some/extra experience on the big stage, there is absolutely more room for these two to grow and become much better players.
It's Hyuk, you don't beat Hyuk, Hyuk beats himself
Our SKT T1 Captain, Park Jae Hyuk gets to decent spots in individual leagues. He's like our secret weapon with untold powers, powers even he cannot yet fully control. Sending him out is dangerous...to everyone. Duck and cover people!
Some people called Coach Park a madman when they heard him drafting two more Zerg. These two players were drafted into the team to add extra diversity to our line, we don't really have a star Zerg player, but we do have are Zerg players that can deliver in different play styles, and in multiple match ups too. If you look at their strengths, they all lie in different match ups, with the help of SKT's training, we're developing some critical snipers to bolster support and throw off the enemy.
You should also take note that a few of our Zerg practice partners retired, probably from the brutality of being Bisu's punching bags. So our Coach is no madman, infact he's a genius, you just have to be one to see what he's doing (which you're not, and neither am I).
Meet Jung Yoon Jong our Protoss rookie, who single handedly dismantled Hwaseung Oz in the STX Cup Masters. Hwaseung Oz didn't send out their lemons, they sent their best, players like Jaedong, Killer and Hiya. That didn't phase Sun though as he slayed all of them and brought us another STX Cup Championship (add another gold to our trophy cabinet). Just another All Kill in the STX Cup.
Sun did so well he was also awarded Rookie of the year. This kid's got some solid skills and I suspect this coming season he'll shine even more.
How many other Progamers do you know have Afros? Flare, baby! Apart from his novel hairstyle this guy is bum-chums with the players, boosting moral and spirit. Just being around that Afro makes you happier, imagine what touching it could do. While we have seen some impressive games from him, he still has a little way to go. He's more of a work in progress under the supervision of Bisu and Best. No doubt if he does get sent out he'll have a special build in mind to wipe out whichever poor soul he comes up against.
Coach Park Young Woon
Our Commander and Chief, fitting both the role and the image of a Boss
Don't let that sleak and cool image fool you, he's a caring coach that's very in-sync with the players. He knows what makes them happy, what makes them cry, he's right there with them in their best moments as well as their worst. If you've ever watched 'Hyung Joon Becomes a Progamer' you'll see that he's one cool guy.
He's also on another level when it comes to predictions and strategical decisions, to such a great degree he was awarded as the best manager last season. A real testament to his skills, stategical thinking, and leadership, which without we would not have finished at the top.
While it's true SKT T1 lent two of our brilliant coaches to aid the South Korean army, there's no doubt in my mind their teachings and lessons were deeply impressed into the players and staff. They can't be replaced, but their lessons won't be forgotten and we'll keep fighting on their behalf and do them proud. + Show Spoiler +
(Fake rumour has it, Oov left a book of plays for each race with strategies never seen before)
Besides, they're one phone call away, a five minute chat with Oov and he'll come up with some crazy build with that genius brain of his.
There you have it once more, the reasons why we'll accomplish and achieve victory.
My final words to you are, We will reach the top once more, there's no doubt about that. This time things will be different, we're not going to drop matches like we did before, we're going to come at you full throttle. We're going to crush you before you have a chance at using what ever special weapon you had planned and there's nothing you can do to stop us. You'll watch as We devour you. Your star player's not going to save you this time, no this time we take it all.
SKTELECOM T-MOTHERFUCKING-1 WILL WIN PROLEAGUE 11-12. SKT FANS UNITE! Thanks to Lightwip for the multiple Bisu picture I hope I did the "[Insert Team name] will win Proleague" justice. I came home after a Saturday night out and still didn't see one for SKT, so I decided to quickly whip one out myself (was anyone else preparing one?). It's 5:41AM, I'm going to bed, hope you had fun reading it.
be on the lookout for jyj, he's rumoured to have super beastly TvP and was doing extremely well in DL .. this season may be his breakout season to support Fantasy in the SKTerran line
Boxing match between Hyde and Blind-rawr, loser has to change their team icon on TL to the winner's team for one year. I think it would be a great idea.

hahahahahahahaahahahahahahhaa,brilliant.
Hyuk is most random player i've ever seen. You cannot explain Hyuk with words.
Love the hype thread. As far as FantaSy goes, though. He's gotten to the OSL finals 4 times. twice in a row both times. 3 silvers & 1 gold. He's the proud owner of the hypothetical silver mouse.
After such a long break, I feel like it's impossible to have a grasp on the outcome of future events, a lot of things have happened since the last batch of tournaments ended (The big shuffles, rumors of SC2, has Flash recovered well?) in addition the new maps that we're probably going to see, which (one might think) makes for a very volatile concoction. Another point to bring up is how relative skill levels have changed during the drought, it's almost impossible to predict.
thx for these educating new comers to bw like me by breaking down the players of each teams about hopefully there will be one for the other teams as well woongjin stars, stx soul,cj entus or air force ace?
With Bisu, Best, Fantasy, rookie of the year, and a hoard of Zergs, SKT1 will win this year without a doubt. I hope to see Bisu mutilate Proleague again, and Best to overcome his fear of PvZ. SKT1 FIGHTING!
EDIT: I must add, awesome hype thread Hyde. The 4 Bisu comment in particular had me loling.
I cannot wait to see SKT vs 8th Dream Team. I hope the new zergs adapt well and get some appearances, and to our rookie of the year. Sun aka Rain, after his awesome comeback/scappy game against Sea on Fortress, fan for life man.
Even KT gambled with 4 straight zerg at PL finals, we need to build up dem zergs.

Is that yours? I saw it in google images when I was searching for Bisu pictures and I did a double take lol then I added the extra head. Thanks for that Lightwip (added your name). Has she been to recent matches?
still think SKT, which was meant to be known for its terran line needs more terrans. fantasy is their only decent terran (and even then he's still laughably unreliable... how is this guy KESPA 3?) hoping Jyj turns that frown upside down and actually does something this season

Well he may be laughable , but still Fantasy surprisingly does well in pro league finals and also I think skt1 is bent on keeping the same old faces and zergs for the fun of it . Mind is going to win them easily these year :D.
SKT1 FIghitng! Great article to start the hype and fervor for the upcoming Porleague season. Our 2 race coaches are gone though....Dr. K and of course oov, I hope this doesn't hurt younger layer development such as Paralyze or Rain/Sun.
Also, my rabid Fantasy Jung Myung Hoon fanboyism makes me point out a single issue with the part you wrote for him.

Fantasy has been in 4, count that 4 OSL Finals. T_T Almost walked the royal road in the 2008 Incruit OSL, losing to Jaedong's set 5 4 pool and the stupid 9 o'clock orientation on Return of the King which allowed the Donglings to attack teh factory/rax wall and trap the first 2 vultures T_T Batoo OSL is the back-to back OSL finalist. Losing to Stork again 2-3 T_T. Then he finally won his OSL final v Stork in the Bacchus OSL with a 3-0 "Bus Ride" as oov might put it. 4th OSL final was the Jin Air OSL where he loses 2-3 AGAIN to one of the Kings of Paewang, despite the sick series. Fantasy is #3 kespa because he is the the back to back OSL Finalist of the 2 most recent OSLs. He also reached the semis of the BigFile MSL the season before last. KeSPA raking is much heavier weighed on individual leagues since the overall ranking of the players will rise as they progress through individual leagues. I believe Proleague wins and losses are much less weighed in comparison to individual leagues so that is why players like Sea and Bisu are not highly ranked despite their general ownage of PL (esp last season with Bisu's 65 wins).

You're definitely right about the Fantasy stuff, I just wanted to let you know that I left that out because I was only talking about what had happened recently (like the last two years). Otherwise I would have written about Bisu taking out Savior too. (but I didn't). This whole piece would have been longer too had I gone that far back, including the intro and the part about getting to the top twice (it would have been more than twice). Maybe I should have written a preface about that.

The only reason I would support the evil empire SKT is due to BeSt's sexy PvT play. Man cuts through tank lines mid- and late-game like no other. Good luck SKT, you'll fucking need it when your team crumbles twice against Flash.

Rabid fanboyism made me do it, I swear. It was no comment on the quality of your post and work, this was an amazingly done preview for fans old and new Proleague season. Fantasy Fun Fact: Only player in BW history to have never lost a game in the PL GwanAhnRi (Finals). -Includes a 2-0 of Jaedong with comeback game on Outsider, which I must post now. http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/korean/games/25090_Fantasy_vs_Jaedong/vod
This year will be even harder to win the championship, KT got mind, Khan has Shine and we don't have to say a word about Team8, JD in a team full of super gamers (Sea best that has not win an individual league, Baby fox' ace, Killer aka Lil Dong). It will be tough for SKT1.
that's actually not that bad of an idea, like a thing to assign 'official' thread duties (also could prevent having no LR when a match begins as everyone just waits for somebody to make it); it seems to work well for GAF.
Also don't rely on SKTelecom to save you when you're stuck on a deserted island:

Well to be honest, I just really like making graphics. It took me such a long time to write because I felt like I wasn't qualified enough to talk about BW or SKT's strengths, besides the obvious "we have Bisu, u jelly?" I was actually hoping to make the banners and then collab with someone else to write it. But it's fine, yours is great :D
I just noticed we have 20(?) players! I didn't realize we had 4-5 16 or 17 year olds I haven't ever heard of Also, players like Ssak and S2 are really underrated for sniping purposes, so we should be fine this year
