Behind the Curtain is a weekly show where a top foreign player shares about playing starcraft at a top level. Each week a foreign pro will break down three replays with us (one vs each race) so we can learn what/why/how they do the things we love watching on streams.
If you would like to ask a question, leave it in the thread. I will be watching it and will ask your question when it is relevant (i.e. if you have a question about safely 14ccing, I will wait until a terran guest before asking it.) If you want to ask a specific person a question, it is a little harder, as I can't guarantee there will be a long period between announcing a player and actually recording it. Your best bet is to look at who is next, and ask your question for them early in the week

Really nice, looking forword to a lot of episodes

Awesome! Should be spotlighted :D

Wow...this is awesome. Looks like it will be a great series.

I really like the idea, but if you're going to have someone on who doesn't speak English fluently, you should really just have them explain stuff in their native language and then translate/subtitle it. I can't understand what the heck he's talking about much of the time.

Awesome.
dRaW bad choice though. He will try to tell you that 12nex is bad. Don't listen to his lies.
|
Incredible idea! Thanks a lot for doing this!
See if you can fix the audio sync for the next episode though.

So part 6 has been deleted because it was too long Apart from that, great initiative, really liked what I saw so far. Would also thank to like Pro7ect for getting in touch with the community with his very entertaining stream and this =)
A bit of feedback : -sound slightly out of sync -your observing is not that great^^ Maybe look a bit more at how ogn obs do it/ask sayle. You don't miss much though, so it's just a question to make it smoother =) -on a related note, I think you should show what' you are talking about more, and use pause sometimes. I think it won't be as important with someone a bit more fluent in English, but yeah, Pro7ect has many things to say, and I'm sure you had other questions. Plus it would let time to ask more basic questions maybe ? Nevertheless, the show is already very long, and it must take an insane amount of work, so take that as you will. -I haven't watched the whole show, but maybe ask some more questions about how they practise, what progamer they like, what style are they more confortable with... You know general kind of stuff.
Anyway, thank you very much, I'll watch the rest later !

|
Very good job! :D I love this!
|
Wow, great idea! I'm jumping into this right now.
|
About to watch the first episode. Seems very interesting. Thanks!
|
|
This is a great idea!
Edit: Just a little critique: Try to be a little more smooth when you talk. It feels like you're talking in chunks and as a result it's harder to get engaged because it sounds like you're about to say something good, but then it's an abrupt stop.
|
Amazing idea and great job.
It'd be prime if you could sync up the audio on the next episode.
Thanks.
|
|
Would be nice if you could set up a guest from the 2v2 community, feels like they are often overlooked in the foreign scene.
|
this is freakin' awesome and i've been super impressed with pro7ect

Good stuff, man!
Project is awesome.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. To respond to a few of you:
-I'm sorry about Pt 6. I'm uploading 6a and 6b right now. -The audio/video sync is an issue, and it will get better as I get better at editing videos. -I think Pro7ect's English is fine, but it's kind of the nature of the beast. Most of the best players right now don't speak English as a first native. If I only picked top players from NA/UK, I'd be working with rather small pool.

Wowowow. This is tha single best thing anybody have done for BW in a long long time. (cept maybe Sayle <3 ).
Thank you for doing this! ))

Thank you guys for your feedback. I'm really sorry that my English (speech) skill is not so good enough and probably a lot of people have faced some troubles in understanding my speech xD It is big honor for me to be the first guest of this interesting project. Hackelbeast needs your feedback to make this show much better, so don't be shy to say any good criticism

Okay, I have watched the whole show now. This project is a great way for players to learn high level strategy and to get a good mind set. I’m happy to see that you took full advantage of this opportunity and delivered some great questions. This show has a lot of potential and I hope that we get to see many good players joining you.
Regarding the questions, I really liked that many of them were pretty general and not always directly linked to the replay. I believe that such questions are more educational and therefore more interesting for the viewer. That being said, you still had time to squeeze in a healthy amount of questions about the game at hand which is good for advice on more specific situations. It also keeps the viewer focused on whats going on in the game. I would however appreciate if the main focus would be on questions of a more general kind. Overall I think that you did a great job!
I also think it could be interesting if your guest could give some quick advice/thoughts on the map before the game starts, while you put a picture of the map on screen.
Lastly, don’t be afraid to pause the game if needed. Moreover I don’t think that its always necessary to actually show the whole game, much like how Day9 stops the game when there isn’t much more to lean from it.
Anyway, I really appreciate your effort and a big thanks to Pro7ect for participating!

My spoken english is quite good. Just saying.

Wow learned a lot from the vZ game [= Looking forward to the future episodes!
|
Super cute at 3:20 (vZ part6b) when you asked him why he wasn't mining and he thought you were talking about vulture mines
|
Awesome. xD Thanks for doing this.
Bakuryu: When playing ZvT, how do you decide when to build zerglings in the early-mid game? Is it better to delay the early lings for sunkens or delay sunkens to build early lings?
Also, how do you know when to add on hatcheries?
|
awesome keep up the good work! thanks alot <3 BW
|
This would be really cool even if you were only doing one. Pro7ect had a lot to say too which is awesome and means you must have been asking the right questions.
Only real critique I have has to do with the audio being out of sync which made some things kind of strange.
|
Awesome Idea! I respect how much effort is taken by both parties to provide for an educational experience. I realize that English isn't Pro7ect's native tongue, so I admire his desire to convey his point regardless of said barrier, even if it took a while. I hope to see more episodes in the future! Particularly, I would love to hear KidCanada and Shauni give us their 2 cents.
EDIT: Question for the mustache Zerg, Bakuryu: Early game I find it difficult to distinguish whether a Zerg plans to flat out mass hydra or go for a lurker contain in PvZ. As a Zerg player, what is the earliest point in the game that you feel commits you to going for lurkers rather than hydra spam? What is the most revealing trait of early lurker play in PvZ?

Thank you very much! Just out of curiosity, how do you decide which player to interview next?
|
|
On October 26 2011 13:20 NationInArms wrote: Thank you very much! Just out of curiosity, how do you decide which player to interview next?
I wanted to get 3 people committed before I started, so the requirements were something like this:
1. They must be really good 2. I have to had heard them speak good English before
That narrowed down the list down to 7 people, and then I just picked one of each race. I will eventually expand beyond just people in my skype, but I'm starting simple. If you want a cheat sheet of who will probably be on at some point.+ Show Spoiler +look at who I interviewed for ISL2, because I will most likely ask all of them eventually. Whether or not they say yes is another matter.

This is a great show! Can't wait to see more.

You will enjoy my PvP replay then.

Episode two with draw is up.
|
Yay! Finally! I was wondering about this thread suddenly missing from the sidebar~
|
thanks dude, i really enjoy these. only problem i have with it is sometimes the guest player's mic cuts out/gets low in volume so its hard to hear whats going on. i dont know how you can remedy this, maybe get them to speak slower and louder?
looking forward to part 3!

So I finished pro7ect episode and it was very interesting, and I watched KC's PvP and PvZ, very entertaining. Though your point about 12 nex is not that strong as one could point out it was badly executed^^ A few mic problems, but it was understandable overall. Can't wait for Bakuryu, need questions on his low apm and his mustache :p
|
I was very excited for this episode and it turn out a bit disappointing, just cause i couldnt hear a word of what Draw was saying.

Awesome, can't wait for next weeks episode.
I agree about the mic quality though, at times it was a little hard to understand.

Thanks for episode 2! Just watched the PvZ. Arbs were quite entertaining
Only drawback (get it? haha): pretty hard to hear what Draw was saying at times.. Dunno why, he said he had a headset. Oh well. Thanks anyways!

I was just explaining how it's not that much of a econ advantage when you are playing in higher level when micro is more beneficial and there are ways to get ahead due to late scouting from the 12nex build.

Lol, the 12 nex in this game was a gate-core 12 nex, and therefore is completely different to the 2 gate 12 nex. How is this replay relevant to the argument?
|
Bakuryu: How should you use your mutas against 5rax, aggressively or defensively? How many sunkens do you make and why? How do you hold the third?
|
The episode is already recorded, but I do remember at least addressing the first two questions. Sorry about that.
|
Bakuryu episode is up. And because this guy:

was one of the only people to ask questions, Bakuryu went on a 6+ minute monologue to answer it. I can't promise you that every guest can answer your questions in such fashion, but I can promise that if you ask the question I will read it and will ask it at some point.

wow that's even worse than the first one. I checked the videos before uploading and they were fine. Maybe youtube is causing the problem? I will figure this out eventually, but sorry guys.
edit: it's bad enough that' ill be reediting these. If the delay makes it unwatchable for you, that's completely understandable, and check back in the next few days for a better version.
