I guess it's inevitable. I certainly won't be switching to watch SC2 unless HotS and LotV do a lot to make the game more like BW (get rid of warpgates, refocus the game on siege/anti-siege units, make units clump up less, etc. etc.) Pull that log out of your ass would you? Let's not pretend this could possibly be good for BW.
You, and most everyone else in this thread, came here from the front page. This is actually the Brood War forum. That's some admin's bad, really. I don't blame SC2 fans for being excited about this, but I'm going to express my opinion about it whenever I damn well please, especially on the BW forum.
My first post wasn't even inflammatory, I didn't say "no SC2 is shit it'll never be good", I laid out (completely fixable) complaints with the current state of SC2 with hope that expansions will fix them. SC1 needed an expansion to fix it, after all.
You proceeded to blow your top and ask me to "pull that log out of my ass" and "shut the fuck up" you "whiny bitch".
How about you behave yourself on the BW forum and act like the guest you are here?

We BW fans are becoming marginalized at every step. Of course we're going to be in defensive postures.
This website is clearly more focused on SCII than BW The majority of us speak English and the English speaking world is clearly more focused on SCII. Hell, we can't even watch our games in English or read about them in English. Our player roster is being marginalized as more and more B teamers and old Bonjwas go over. In almost every global event, BW is being marginalized if not cut right out. Our forum here is a constant battleground, as we now are about 1/2 of the poster count ...
So...yea, now you're telling me that my PL is "meshing," with SCII? I was more than fine with my game, my PL and my website. I have none of these things now, as they were.
I, of all people, don't want to start the war here but the fact is this is why we get pissy. Every, single, time.
Just try and think from our side next time you want to come in here and post like villageidiot or any of his ilk. We don't care that you like your game, we want you to enjoy it. We just want what once was back or at the very least to stop being squeezed in and nudged over to make room for the new puppy.
So, while you see it is "cooperation," and "sharing," we see it as just another in a long line of unfortunate events that continue to shrink and mold our sport alongside something it is not, taking away fans, airtime and players.
Either way, thank you for the news OP. It's always nice to know what is going on in the scene. This is like a Windows XP fan being upset about Windows 7 taking over, being implemented in businesses, etc. Change happens. BW is amazing, but the fact remains that it was around for more than 20 years. It had a great run and continues to have a healthy life. But you certainly can't expect the scene to live forever. SC2 and BW can live side by side as long as Korea is BW dominated. The entire foreigner scene has moved to SC2. It's sad groups can't find English speaking casters for games, but that's a symptom of a regional product; BW pretty much only dominates in Korea, and China while the rest of the world has moved on. There are plenty of asshole SC2 fans who seem to take glee in laughing at BW fans and that's unfortunate and wrong. But there are also plenty of delusional BW fans who act like SC2 is some fad that will disappear while their favorite 20 year old game will magically make a comeback, all while demeaning SC2 fans as well as the game. So there's blame on both sides. BW will live as long as the money is there, and like any other thing, it will die when the money leaves. That's life. Broodwar was released in 1998. Watching Windows XP was not a hobby for a group of people, and I doubt Windows 7 fans continuously stepped on XP fans' toes dota 2 next year, maybe the homie MVP will switch? I mean that's where the money is at + it has new graphics The point is that XP is being replaced by an upgraded, new product. Many people aren't happy about certain things not being compatible with XP, like dx11 for instance. And of course businesses aren't happy about the prospects of upgrading, training, etc. The point is, change is inevitable. It's called an analogy, not a direct 1:1 comparison...
New, yes, but the problem is that many people do not view it as "upgraded". Some would say that SC2 is more analogous to Vista than Windows 7, if BW is Windows XP.

Wow this is huge! Hopefully it will give BW more exposure to SC2 viewers, in any case this is great news. It probably won't harm BW too much, since they'll likely use the time freed up if they make the PL shcedule less packed (1-2 Bo7 per week)

Say what you want about Brood War but it's undeniably past its prime as an esport now. Since the release of Starcraft 2, the foreigner community has almost entirely abandoned Brood War apart from a select few who still play on iCCup.
While TeamLiquid does maintain a Brood War forum and the Brood War variation of Liquipedia, it doesn't draw anywhere near as much attention as the Starcraft 2 scene.
We've recently had the ISL2 (Kaal's International Star League.) While there is undeniably still a foreigner scene, the sad reality is that nearly all of the Brood War pros outside of Korea have switched to Starcraft 2 or retired outright. Yes, I mean people like iNcontroL, Grrr, NonY, Artosis, Day[9], Tasteless, Mondragon, IdrA, FrozenArbiter etc.
I could go on for ages about why Starcraft: Brood War is outdated as a game now, but I'd be better off writing a short book inticrately going into the vast numbers of reasons why than wasting forum space writing such a gigantic post.
I'll just leave it at the blunt point that the mechanics of the game, particularly the 12 unit/1 building selection limit, the lack of smart casting, the craptonnes of hotkeys you'd need to control even a decently sized army as well as the SNES quality graphics are a major turn-off for any spectator let alone player from today's era. I could go into more detail and research into moments where players like Grrr, NonY, IdrA etc had their hopes of breaking the Korean scene smashed to pieces by the fact that the Korean scene has a gigantic, nay even colossal learning and mastery curve, but like I said, that would involve tonnes of research and you could probably write a disseration on the amount of detail you can go into.
Having said this, I think the Korean BW scene still has quite a bit of time to go.

SC2 is not ready for this yet. So sad.

I hope Kespa, OGN and Gom can co-exist in distributions of content. Just like WCG Korea of SC2. One does televise for local market and other with English casters distribute on Internet Stream with Gomtv.

The Windows XP analogy is asinine. BW is a sport, just like Baseball or Chess. When they invented softball not every baseball player went to play that new game. When they invented checkers not every chess player went to play that new game. SC2 is a new, different, and imo shittier, game, just like WC3 and AOE3 or whatever that came after BW. It's not an 'upgrade', the only thing it shares with SC1 is the name.
Sports, with consistent rules, lasts for centuries. Expecting BW to die after a decade is stupid, and shows that you don't believe in 'esports' at all.

I must not be "from today's era" then because I don't find any of those things to be a major turn-off as either a spectator or a player. It's a difficult game. And I have to seriously question the wisdom of putting Grr's name next to Nony and Idra.

And that's where we can discuss disagreements in opinion of course, it's all good. I don't think it's controversial to suggest SC2 builds on some of the evolutions and upgrades the RTS genre has witnessed since BW came out. Obviously there's debate over whether some of those changes are good things (rally points, huge as grouping of units, etc) or not, but that's more of an argument of RTS in general.
SC2 is still a young game, and will continue to evolve. I think it's a good thing that it's in such a volatile position before it becomes huge in Korea. There's plenty of time for players to begin mastering it before it's truly presented to a mass audience who have been watching masterful BW for years.

How about you behave yourself on the BW forum and act like the guest you are here? ALL of the users here are guests here. The entire damn site is Admin's turf. If you don't like how they do their work, you leave. If you believe that you are somehow more special than the recent members here because of your post count or how long you've lurked here, you are sorely mistaken. The point is, mind your own manners first.

Where in the fiery fuck did you read that they'd stop broadcasting sc bw? NOWHERE! That's right. Shut the fuck up and stop whining like a little bitch. What's wrong with you? Thanks for your opinion about sc2 though. I'm sure someone, somewhere out there cares. Temper tantrum much? Are you going to threaten to punch me through the internet next? Someone hold me, I'm scared. Seriously sick of all people who litterally do nothing but whine in these threads. Get over it. Go to the battle net forums with that kind of attitude. As Yergidy said it might bring viewers to BW. We know nothing yet. Why are you complaining? Why? Let's not pretend this could possibly be good for BW. You, and most everyone else in this thread, came here from the front page. This is actually the Brood War forum. That's some admin's bad, really. I don't blame SC2 fans for being excited about this, but I'm going to express my opinion about it whenever I damn well please, especially on the BW forum. The article also states Pro-gaming teams are starting to think more realistically about Starcraft II, upgrading their computers to be more suitable for Starcraft II, and also testing Starcraft II internally.
Obviously happy news for SC2 fans, not so happy news for BW fans. It's difficult to see this as being simple coexistence, rather than another step towards replacement.

Well, MBC stopped broadcasting BW so...there's that. Also, calm down sport. That last line makes you look like you can't read forum names.

Why is this in the BW Forum?
I mean, I guess it's nice that this is confirmation that there's going to be another PL season (if anyone doubted), but this is entirely 100% SC2 and should be moved.
It's good that both games are going to exist side-by-side, though, and that they're going to get computers can can actually play the damn game, OGN.
Edit: Also, I'm pretty sure this means SC2 teams will play SC2 teams. People in the thread seem to be assuming BW players will also play SC2. I don't even begin to understand why anyone would assume that.

And let's not pretend that BW had more than a year of life at most left in it.

Hopefully blizzard works on balance a bit more so that things don't go horribly awry right away. And hopefully HOTS doesn't bring sc2 right back to a beta state of imbalance : /
