I lol'd .. If the korean viewers wants SC2, they will have SC2 but if Kespa is forcing this then my 'lol' will become 'rofl'.

From the article:
Players A and B who have won championships are also showing dominance within their teams at SC2, and they showed off their confidence by saying "We are practicing by watching GSL matches. If we start for real I think we'll be able to become top players soon". Leads me to believe even the A teamers are playing. I don't really understand why though.

I'm guessing they will have a paralel PL, because if they integrate both game in a bo7 it will be really boring. SC2 is so bad to watch, so fkn boring. As I said in the "SC2 in ProLeague" thread, KeSPA will not save BW. They are introducing SC2 now in a context of SC2's rapidly increasing commercial appeal outside Korea, a Korean competitive advantage in producing and fostering RTS talent, and a diminishing esports scene in Korea and worsening domestic public opinion of video games and competitive gaming.
KeSPA hopes SC2 can revive its sustainability and profitability. BW may be the best competitive game ever made, and it may be a part of Korean 2000's culture, but KeSPA lacks the power and ultimately, the desire, to keep the BW scene as the dominant esports scene in the world. As popularity (and I'm talking global popularity) shifts to SC2 and the commercial appeal of SC2 rises, you can bet KeSPA will try to milk that cash cow as best it can, and it is not inconceivable that KeSPA will encourage its existing teams and star players to transition over (this is KeSPA's only bargaining power over GOM after all).
Even if the A-team players remain in BW, how long can BW survive as less and less new talent emerge, and as the current A-team players retire (or even retire early, sensing no viable long-term future in BW esports)? Wouldn't they feel financially pressured to quit early and take up a university degree, or even request to transition to SC2 by their own accord, for the sake of their own futures?
As you can see, I'm not a fan of KeSPA at all. They are a hypocritical, selfish, money-grubbing, and ultimately, insular, organisation that matyred themselves against Blizzard to gain the moral highground in the opinion of the Korean public. In doing so, they set back the Korean, and probably the global SC2 scene, by an entire year. This would be all fine with me, if they actually kept their stance and support BW to their fullest ability. Now, we see that they've tossed their morality and the security of the BW scene away as they become increasingly jealous of GOM's position in and wealth made from the increasingly global esport scene.
Man, I really wish KeSPA would support BW as they have done in the past year. Introducing SC2 into KeSPA's portfolio of esports titles would open the floodgates completely. Even if BW will still run next year, the job security of all BW players has dropped considerably. KeSPA's adoption of SC2 shows that have changed their stance on the longevity of the BW scene and the possible popular reception of SC2 in Korea. The question of BW's demise is now a question of "when" and not a question of "if".
Let's hope that we'll see magic happening in these last seasons worthy of celebrating the last 10 years of BW progaming.

It's because they act like SC2 is so much superior to COD, Halo, and other games.
anyways, I'm pretty sure we are hearing about this now because the deal to make an 8th team almost fell through, and KESPA was forced to agree to something regarding SC2 in order to make it work.

On an unrelated note anyone knows when the next proleague season is supposed to start? Ive been without BW for too long now

I know, but the point I'm trying to make is that a lot of SC2 fans base their identity around SC2 being better than those games.

Bad news.
BW-pros devoting their time fully to practice SC2 before the Proleague season?
I was thinking Kespa is doing this on free will so that players or teams can choose which game to play. But from the article, it seems most of the progamers and even the A-teamer are practicing too? Does that mean the BW Proleague and SC2 Proleague will be played by the exact same progamers? Does Kespa think switching to SC2 is a good move just like MBCGame switching to a Kpop channel?
Kespa is formed by the sponsors who are maintaining the Pro-teams and they are using their BW resources (equipment, space, and players) on something other than BW. In corporate perspective, this can only mean the sponsors are switching over with a transition period in mind.
Can't tell if Kespa is trolling or...
I'm sad beyond believe.
|
@Hightemper
That's sad, even more after the last OSL :'(
|
When is KeSPA going to release information about this new season. I would have thought that after such a successful OSL they wouldn't feel pressure to make their players play SC2 or combine it into proleague. It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense with how unpopular SC2 is in Korea compared to BW but decisions aren't always made on what makes sense.

This is clearly a troll article, dudes. "Top level BW players are better than everyone at SC2. They don't even play it, they're just better"
They're not ending BW Proleague, because of all the 8th team business. They're doing an SC2 League so Blizz will support the BW scene. I'm increasingly convinced of this (though not 100%, ofc)
