I expected them to bump that price up a lot more due to the overwhelming number of viet kieu. Anyway, I'm not sure if I want to try Viet pho o_O after all the shit my mom told me about (since our family used to own a restaurant back in the days) On May 10 2005 00:54 LOcDowN wrote: On the side note, I wonder what the fuck they teach you kids in history class? We also cover WW, industrialization, etc. Later Modern history is taught, but not much.

And before you're retalitating against my post read what I said carefully. have you been to vietnam is the past year? hell 2-3 years? Hanoi i will admit IS expensive to VIETNAM standards, but is NO WHERE CLOSE to saigon's living costs. And HANOI NOR SAIGON is close to being top 10 most expensive cities to live in the world... pshhh where the hell you get that idea?? Saigon is the richest city in Vietnam PERIOD! and the whole pho thing... there are places where they serve pho for 50 cents, but you sacrifice a lot these days.. you usually sit outside, on lil benches in the dirty floor which is usually dirt or next to mopeds blowing carbon monoxide towards you while you eat.. =) , next to some stranger, and use dirty utensils and serving bowls. but if you pay for a $1.50 bowl, you gain the indoors, an actual table and seat, and "better" cleaned utensils and serving bowls. HCM vs SAIGON... i never met one vietnamese person in my life that said Ho Chi Minh City... for one, no one in vietnam can even say CITY.. they'll say some broken ass english, so they'd rather say saigon, which everyone in my family, my friends, my friends family.. everyone i know says saigon.. HCM is designated for either tourists, or pple who wanna be politically correct about the "new" name... but in all honesty... it'll probably always be called saigon in vietnamese eyes. history in the USA... USA is still biased by "only" studying western civilization until you reach WORLD history.. then, only a "small" portion of the chapters are designated to studying asia/africa/south america/etc etc. only if you take a specific class, you'll learn more about a certain country/continent... but a majority of history reflects the formation of america, the beginning/middle of amercica and their wars in history. this is the list of top 10 most expensive cities in the world 1. Tokyo 2. Osaka Kobe 3. Oslo 4. Hongkong 5. Libreville 6. Zurich 7. London 8. Genève 9. Kopenhagen 10. Paris

You are so wrong. We, young vnese generation in VN, say both Saigon or tha`nh pho' HCM. Personally, I think "tha`nh pho' HCM" is used MUCH more frequently. Only ppl who are 30, 40+ call it Saigon

Talking about living cost. Well I can easily find 2 bucks meal in HN or HCM. They can't be no where in the top 50 most costly cities in the world OR i am completely missing something here ![]() The survey covers 144 cities and measures the comparative cost of over 200 items in each location. These include housing, food, clothing and household goods as well as transportation and entertainment. It can't be, unless they are comparing luxury items in vietnam to common things in other places

Learn to read please. There is no such thing as "relative to the income" in that web page. And it would be pointless to compare that way jackass.

I think next time you visit Vietnam, just buy a Vietnam History book, the book that they use to teach in school, I can't remember all of the Viet history. By the way, if you want to talk about politics, find some anti-commiez forum and discuss there, it suits you better. I'm not really into that kind of stuff, there are poor people, hungry children, natural disasters... in VN, I'd be ashamed of myself living in such good condition and talk shit about VN. I'm not trying to change your mind, and i think i can't, but trust me, VN nowadays is way different from what your parents kept telling you all the time. You should come and live in VN for 1 year or several months and judge by yourself.

It's a lot different compared to visiting VN for only for 1 month as a tourist and going to mostly luxary places. I went everywhere by myself and did almost everything that normal people do such as riding motorbikes while sometimes going through red lights . It's a lot dirtier than the US and I'm still scared to enter most bathrooms, but I got use to it after a while though I try to avoid the bathrooms as much as I can. haha. A few times, I visit Diamond Plaza, the most popular and expensive mall, but I didn't like the feeling of the people there. It's like "i'm rich, i'm better than you" kind of feeling. Some people go there to show that they're rich, but I don't care about that since I could buy almost anything I want there if I wanted to. Vietnam is a lot different than when I went 9 years ago. It has improved significantly. Of course it's not without poverty and I try to help the poor in my own ways. For example, for Christmas I went to a elementary school and gave a teacher I met several bags of candy to give to her school. This was up in the mountains in Da Lat. Most of her students didn't have shoes and their school clothes were blue, but now brown due to being covered with dirt and unwashed (for a lot of them it's their casual clothes too!)/ There are plenty of people that help and donate to help the poor and people in crisis as you can see on VTV sometimes. My language teacher told me it's not possible to help everyone, but I try to do what I can and I think that's most important.
