What the heck does "retirement" mean in this case? When a player retires, I doubt how he'll have enough money to live the rest of his life without additional pay. These are young people, with probably very little saved up in government-sponsored retirement saving accounts (e.g. US 401k).

Obviously you have to get another job if you've only been working for a few years, like all the progamers have. Of course it means retiring from esports, don't be silly.

According to all-knowing wikipedia, "retirement" means "the point where a person stops employment completely", i.e. you don't pick up another job after retirement. Perhaps the better terminology would be "quitting" and "unemployment"?

I've been playing Brood War for a long ass time now.... I've watched Brood War esports for around 8 years. For the first 5 years however, I only bothered to watch matches that were recommended (Like once a month). However Jaedong changed that, I watched his games live everytime I could. Jaedong was the reason I made an account on TL. Jaedong's muta micro was just out of this world. Sometimes, I would look at July or Savior and be like, yeah that's some sick muta micro, maybe if I practiced it enough I could look like them. Jaedong's muta micro though.... when I saw him stack 2 groups on top of each other I didn't know what the hell to say. Same thing when he micro'd 2 groups in 2 separate locations (Jaedong vs Upmagic....). Even if I played Team Melee with a friend, we couldn't hope to reach Jaedong's level. Now, I don't watch SC2 seriously, actually I considered it somewhat of a joke at first with the MBS and infinite unit select until it became a legit esport. Maybe I've watched the finals of some series via VODs, but nothing serious. If Jaedong plays SC2 though, I will watch every single one of his matches still. Still...... it's just not the same if Jaedong leaves BW or even Oz I really really hope that Oz can get sponsored again, along with the other teams so we can continue to watch proleague games nearly every night. In other eSports, you can only see a certain top player play like once a week/month in a pro match (even in SC2). Blizzard just left BW to die, especially with that broadcasting rights shit. Can't anybody see that if we just keep supporting their ways of not supporting esports then SC2, along with any other form of esports of their other games will just fade into nonexistence ?????? League of Legends/DotA2/randomgamewithsupportofcreator will outlast SC2....... This shit isn't even good for my health, every day I'm wondering and hoping that there will be more and more SC for me, and when it finally runs out I'll be so depressed. Tl;Dr I feel like crying

Will he be playing for another team for significantly less than what he is making right now (given his recently less-than-stellar records esp in the JvZ department). JD is valuable because he brings in fans. They pay players based on how successful they will be for making people want to buy their product, so I'd say they'll be willing to pay a pretty penny for Jaedong. It's not all about winning.

![]() I've only cheered for Oz before because of Jaedong, but I slowly found myself liking the quirky players the team would produce, from Backho to Hiya, and now Killer who has come so far since being nuked by Boxer. It really saddens me to see not only Oz go, but MBC and Wemade as well. Here's hoping that there will be some good news in the days to come. ![]()

I like pro-league very much and it's quite sad to see so many teams disbanding.

In addition, talk about Flash destroying Broodwar. When Flash won the GomTV Starleague, GomTV stops broadcasting Broodwar. When Flash won the WCG, WCG bans Broodwar. When Flash won the SPL for the first time, Estro and Sparkz both disband. When Flash won the golden mouse, MBCGame decides to switch to a music channel. When Flash won the SPL again defeating SKT, Wemade Fox, Hwaseung OZ, and MBCGame all disband. All I can say is thank god Jangbi stopped Flash from winning a Platinum Mouse.

Even good sitcom TV shows don't last this long, even if they do they probably have a whole completely different cast of characters by that time. What game even comes close to BW of being played competitively for as long as BW? http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=257268
