Page 23. If I see any more BW vs SC2 debate from that point on you will get banned. |
GG OZ. Hope the players that deserve a spot get a spot somewhere else
edit: just skimmed through like the whole thread. T______T jeez, so much drama. There are still many things BW fans are hesitant that SC2 is 100% esports material so just deal with it.
and NO BW does not "need stories", it does pretty well on its own merits..

can't really be happening... ;_;

Oh jesus, Oz was always my favorite team. I don't think I ever voted against them my entire lb career, points be damned. JD, HiyA, Killer, some of my favorite players ever, and it was starting to look like sHy might shape up into a decent toss. As if losing FOX and MBC wasn't terrible enough...
Well, might as well add an Oz icon while I still can.
Also, all the other teams becoming even more stacked with great players might actually be unhealthy in the long run, if it means fewer opportunities for young or would-be pro BW players.

So it's SKT, CJ, KT, Khan, Stars, STX and ACE now?
Maybe some SC2 teams could play BW as well, I'm sure there are ex-BW pros who couldn't make it through the brutal Code A quals and wouldn't mind going back.

This is sad, but inevitable. There is not enough new blood either, most will be playing SC2.

KT to pick up JD while flash is recovering from his injuries?

Yes, total of 7 teams.
+ Show Spoiler +And you really think they could actually do something in Broodwar? They left the game for a new start pretty much.

Sucks, but it'll be exciting to see where Jaedong & co. go from here.

If this falls through and KeSPA cannot find the sponsors for these teams, Jaedong may not even have a team he can negotiate with.. He's the only one that has a significantly large contract, comparatively, so it would be difficult for him to get signed unless he takes a paycut I think.
Everyone else like Killer, Hiya, Baby, Sea, etc would probably have an easier time being picked up by other teams.

They have the money, and they could help to develop BW in another country. When BW finally definitely needs help, BW fans are looking for the Chinese sponsors, and otherwise BW fans curse the decision to play OSL or SPL finals in China (which would be trying to attract sponsors), and curse the Chinese decision to cancel the event for the safety of the fans. Well, it's too bad and too late, SC2 and DotA2 hype has taken over the country and I doubt any Chinese company with a corporate mindset would jump on this (sadly) sinking ship. There are almost no notable BW players left in China and the fan audience of other games are much bigger; it would send an image of nostalgia and counter-progress for a Chinese company to sponsor a BW team, whereas it would send an image of rescue and preservation of Korean culture if a Korean company were to do it.
It really is sad all this is happening but what I find incredible is that no Korean company wants to have the PR image of saving BW, which is essentially part of of Korean culture. I suppose now that the Korean public has found out that it's actually good at real sports like football, golf and Olympic sports, esports has become the weird cousin that you're afraid to show to anyone. At least, that's the impression I've received from Koreans about BW; they're usually ashamed that people make money playing games in their country.
All it takes is one compassionate company chairman who enjoys BW and isn't ashamed of that part of Korean culture, and so far there's been zero. You guys should be more angry rather than sad at this situation.

It's not the players that matter here, it's the available sponsorship. It would be meaningless for SC2 players to go back to BW - there's already plenty of BW B-teamers to fill up new teams. We just need sponsors for those teams.
|
Broodwar must surivive. It will wheather this storm of perhaps as few as 7-8 teams next year and only 1 channel next year and things will pick up again after that. If the most succesful and popular Esport there has ever been goes under then there isn't much hope for the rest of Esports.
Please let some sponsors arrive with some money.

Jaedong for SC2? haha jk, maybe KT or SKT can afford to sign him.

Someone who said about Chinese involvement is right, that could really help things. Hopefully KeSPA are pitching to everyone possible right now. Saying they have disbanded is somewhat misleading when it says simply the teams are handed back to KeSPA and the practice houses are still rented. I'm sure there's a short period to find new sponsors. Korean Air having a team is one obvious one. Then just 2 more..
