Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it. |
Defeatist attitude? Not on my watch Mr.!

Well, business works in mysterious way I guess

There is a reason why BW tournies are held in prestigious locations and SC2 tournies are held in some guy's apartment and a modified classroom. Yeah Because MLG and GSL are held in apartments. Your old BW superiority complex seems to be at work here. Because you don't wish to move on to SC2, ok nothing wrong. perfectly fine. But to insult our passion without even get your facts straight. You make Brood War fans look bad. "passion. "because you dont wish to move on to SC2." mb it is because its worse? There is a reason why the only country that cares about quality in games (Korea) is still playing broodwar and was the only country 2 have true esports Fuckin west is just jumping on new shit no matter what. Well shit I better rejoice your MBC Channel is dying than huh? I never said that, I respect both games equally. So what if there is SC3? It's still Starcraft. You're wrong if esports belongs to BW and BW alone. Those who cannot move on from the old era to the new can only die off If this is how Brood War community is then I am glad your mainstream channel is dying I never talked about "belong" or some shit. i just said the onyl true esports we have is in Korea. and you guys shouldnt talk about passion when the first thing u do is jump on the new game when it comes out. i just cant call it esports... money throwing waiting for the next game so they can throw money at that game.

Why shut down
Sigh... kind of sad that just airing KPop probably gets more revenue for MBC than gaming

How long was SC out before it became so popular in Korea? From what i've heard it wasn't all that big until BW came out, is this true?

Oh my god this is terrible ;_;

All I can say to those who say BW took time:
When I was a little boy in Korea, I saw BW units on the cover of potato chip bags AND the little souvenir tag less than a year after SC ORIGINAL came out (I was 2nd/3rd grade at the time).
That's less than a year to be on non-gaming merchandise.

This is still real...

Aw... I hope there is no domino effect or anything. MSL has been great this year.

it's funny because sc2 people probably don't realize that when the sc1 esports scene goes down, the sc2 "esports" scene will be negatively affected
you think gomtv with blizzard will be able to generate an esports scene like the bw scene? with blizzard, a company that pretty much would kill an entire culture and industry behind one of their OWN previous games just so they can get some bucks off their newest toy?
regarding all these arguments about the existence of an sc2 esports scene, don't make me laugh. esports isn't measured by the number of viewers on justintv, livestream, etc. esports is about becoming part of mainstream culture.
sc2 doesn't have a major broadcasting station. just looking at the crowd that attends the gsl studio, you can tell they're either foreigners or korean male otakus. does sc2 have both old people and young people, screaming fan girls who spectate BW even though they themselves aren't gamers like us in teamliquid or have never even played BW? sc2 doesn't have an entity like KESPA where there are standards and rules, key to any industry. yes, individualistic, rebel teamliquid users are all about being independent and free; just look at what happened with the EG Puma incident; at some point, laws are needed. just looking at the production of the proleage, osl/msl, the production quality is no different from that of mainstream tv. yes, even the production quality of GSL is subpar compared to the production quality of MBCgame and OGN; this is the difference between what official television broadcasting stations are capable of and what a streaming internet company such as gomtv is capable of. there is professionalism at all levels in bw. this is just a sneak peak of what makes something esports. a game becomes esports when it stops being simply a game, and instead also become a part of mainstream life.
the very attempt by gomtv and the foreign scene to develop an sc2 esports scene is in their minds, possible due to the legitimacy of the bw esports scene because that is the only true esports scene to this date.
