Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it. |

We're in this shit together son. I already addressed this. For eSports! -_- If you are a fan of gaming do yourself a favor and re-tweet #MBCPlus save MBCGame channel.

Bunch of nerds that watch videogames on internet streams now think TV is obsolete lmao. Talk about flawed perception. TV is how you reach beyond your own little niche community and grow, and have a scene that has fans of diverse backgrounds and not just another nerd that plays X game currently.
There is a reason why BW tournies are held in prestigious locations and SC2 tournies are held in some guy's apartment and a modified classroom.

If eSports never became so "big" globally no one would care and Blizzard would have never sued a tv channel that was just breaking even...
Lmao good luck on preserving a non BW eSports with Blizzard on the scene. Fact of the matter is every other "eSports" game is trying to emulate the Korean BW scene; if that fails ESPORTS is screwed no matter which way you look at it.
And why the hell are the sc2 enthusiast trying to convert BW fans. Whats wrong? SC2 can't stand up on its own without the hype of being the successor of the most successful RTS?
|
Can we not turn this into a BW versus SC2 debate please?
The overarching story is the fact that eSports is going to lose one of its best content producers. That's what this is all about. Don't lose focus.

Your old BW superiority complex seems to be at work here. Because you don't wish to move on to SC2, ok nothing wrong. perfectly fine. But to insult our passion without even get your facts straight. You make Brood War fans look bad.

How about re-tweeting #MBCPlus with your concerns instead and at least make your voice heard?

Please evryone try to stay optimistic, of course it's a bad news but it's not done yet, maybe MBC will not become a music station. And remember how many times people was shouting in our faces that BW is dead, even in 2005 i heard that, maybe even before and many many times after... 2011 is a great year for BW, with MSL/the new OSL & PL. And if MBC really want to become a music channel, maybe another TV station will jump at the chance to host a big BW tourney. Who knows? We dont know anything at the moment, just bad rumors. Dont let yourself get discouraged!

Also, fuck all the stupid GLOBAL ESPORT HYPE bullshit, it has never worked the past 10+ years and there isn't much sign of any improvement beyond some amateur webtv streaming. If you think that's mainstream you have no fucking clue what mainstream is (hint: it isn't some nerd watching streams in their bedroom). Nothing has yet to achieve mainstream status like BW has and MBCgame / OGN / Kespa are the main players that accomplished this. My 8 year old cousin like JD, not because he likes videogames but because he thinks JD looks boss when crushing players with mutas. Look at BW streams and you see fangirls; they aren't fans of BW (as a game) but fan of the pros/teams and the showmanship aspect of BW. That is mainstream. Increased viewership of current games only goes to tell you that internet streaming has improved says nothing of viability of games becoming mainstream. Gaming nerds watching stream of videogames they play means absolutely nothing. Sponsorship from gaming hardware makers also mean nothing, they will put in the minimum amount to advertise and then cut n run when the next shiny game comes along. Esport in its nature is bubbly and cyclical and that is why its so rare for a scene to last for one singular game title. All in all, fuck esports I just want my BW http://www.complexitygaming.com/news/2969/#
May I direct you to these numbers?
SC2 is doing GREAT.
I'll miss MBC and BW, but the writing has been on the wall for some time. Lower sponsors, lower viewers, teams contracting, etc. With MBC deciding its no longer fiscally prudent to run the station, that seems like a damning condemnation of the channel's flagship programming =[
It was a hell of a run though.

This has nothing to do with me being a BW elitist, nor am I attacking the efforts of SC2 tourny organizers. If I sound harsh I apologize, but all the stupid ESPORTSSSS one liner from people that don't understand the history is irritating.
I was merely pointing out the fact that unless the scene is able to break through the niche of being only seen by people that already play games, it's never going to attract the sponsorships and the attention like BW did. Not to mention gamers are probably the worst fan base to start from, since all they do is move onto the shiny newer game every year (How many people are still playing a non-mmo game from 5-6 years back? [besides bw/cs1.6/quake])
To this cause is why I'm stating organizations like MBCgame who displays games on public television is important, because it gives it a sense of legitimacy and not just an outlandish hobby for social rejects like medieval LARPing would be.
GSL is/was held in some outskirt classroom in Korea. Most people never paid attention to MLG before SC2 and there is 0% guarantee this hype is going to last. We all had the same shit when painkiller was released and it was going to become the 2nd coming of jesus for shooters, guess what it died and after that no one cared about ESPORTSSSS in the west till last year.

Of course, And I apologize for my overzealous post, after all I love bw and keep up with scene quite abit, Well pretty much SC2 scene is quite large, not up to the BW scale but it's only been 365 days since release. What the future holds good or bad, gotta see what developes from it. But there's alot of room for- it to grow. There is hype but also SC2 doesn't have that much exposure yet. And a lack of marketing contributes to that. But Brood War took time to grow as well.

Passion for a game or passion for esports? which one are we talking about here?
Tell me what is this true esports you have. The one channel that's changing to a MTV channel? That's your esports right there eh?
You seem to not care much about esports at all just how your own game's scene is like. But no view of the overall developement of esports. games come and go, ESports stays

Instead of arguing with one another. How about we be constructive? Bickering with one another is getting us nowhere. At least let the board know at MBC that we do care about what they program. Re-tweet @MBCPlus and let them know you care about their programming.
That's the very least we can do.

RIP hopefully a new company will arise from the ashes based around sc2 now.

OGN.
The fact that BW in Korea isn't something "to nerds from nerds", but a real industry with real reputation, catering all kinds of viewers. The fact that the korean military has their own Proteam.
