Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it.

Let's see how many companies are willing to sponsor and finance a SC2 team, when there has been no precedent set of any e-Sport team surviving past the ten years mark. I mean, one can hope that it only means that a new station will take MBC's place, that a new starleague will rise to continue where MSL left. Starting a completely new starleague from scratch is unlikely at this point but if a new broadcaster can take over the MSL crew, studios, equipment etc. it could be a good chance for a new station to enter the scene. I think that this would be one of the best outcomes that could happen. Here's to hoping that something much better results from all this.

Are there any hard statistics on this? How are other game genres doing?

On the bright side this may work in Prolegue's favor, increasing the viewers count needed to sustain it. It is sad though, even after all these years progaming still isn't mainstream enough.

I know this is Starcraft site, and so most of us equate SC with esports, but are esports overall really becoming less popular in korea? Are there any hard statistics on this? How are other game genres doing? The korean game industry is focused heavily on MMO's. RTS games have been declining slowly since like 2007ish iirc.

I think it's a great opportunity to start the "transfer" to SC2 Yes, because a TV station that a few years from now would almost certainly be hosting a SC2 tournament (either in replacement of, or alongside their existing SC tournament) shutting down is clearly good for SC2. Everyone should mourn this loss, if it comes to pass. I don't care what game you enjoy, this will affect you.

Seriously this is the worst news since Violet landing in the hospital t.t Half of all BW games potentially gone? No MSL? Proleague possibly halved in number of games?? I seriously hope that Anibox steps up or that MBC tries keeping their BW related content on some smaller channel of theirs or something...: What about the HEROES, what will happen to them :C I know Sea can probably get a contract with any team, but what about all the other players t.t Also, +1 for harsher crackdown on SC2 promoters in BW threads!

The thing is they can't do it when mbc hq are shutting down the broadcasting branch which are handling the bw tournaments and so . Hence no they can't unless another broadcasting company takes over the staff and decides to broadcast over the internet for all the bw and sudden attack, special forces all together.
